Montana is a adrenaline junkie, but after a accident she had to give it up. Even her kid. Yes that was pretty heartbreaking. Her brain took a hit that sometimes she just has these blackouts, so she spent 10 years with her parents instead.

Now she is back, starting a new career, getting to know her kid. It also seems I missed some drama in the previous book when she came back to her ex and his new girlfriend. Maybe for the best . I still do not understand the whole giving up for 10 years, I mean couldn't she have lived in the same city and had visits with her daughter that were supervised?

Anyway she is back, building a life. Trying to connect with her hunky neighbor Eddie.

But then there is some drama, and Eddie is hurt. I liked Eddie, he was such a good man, and now his life is totally different because of an act of violence.

Sweet story.

Good narrator. I liked her voices and she set a nice pace and tone to the story

Montana Banks has returned to Wild River, Alaska, for a fresh start. Adventure has always been in her blood, but while an injury leaves her unable to participate in her favorite extreme sports, Montana settles for teaching base-jumping classes at her friend's tour company. Settling in has been almost too easy: a great job, her family's acceptance and her own apartment--right next door to straitlaced police officer Eddie Sanders.

Eddie has always had feelings for Montana, and now that he's leaving for a new job in Anchorage he wonders if he should've taken a chance with her sooner. Then a moment of violence the night of his going-away party leaves him badly wounded. Seeing Eddie's job opportunity lost and self-confidence following close behind, Montana is determined to show him all the reasons he has to pick himself up again.

Book Review: The Highlander's Angel by Caroline Lee

The Highlander's Angel (The Highland Angels, #1)

Author: Caroline Lee
Title: The Highlander's Angel
(The Highland Angels #1)
Genre: Historical Romance
Format: ebook
Pages: 184
Published: January 5th 2020

Where I Got It: My shelf (Amazon)

Summary: When Robert the Bruce's queen formed the Angels, an elite group of spies masquerading as her ladies in waiting, she probably didn't imagine they'd be called on to save her life. But that's what happens when Queen Elizabeth is entertaining the Ross delegation.

Luckily, her lady Courtney is deadly with a bow and recognizes the assassin. Court's history with the band of thieves and murderers who raised her means she has a very different skill set than most women in the queen's retinue, and she's not afraid to employ it. But she is used to working alone, and the idea of being saddled with an unwanted partner—particularly when that man is gorgeous, dangerous, and a suspect—is galling.

Malcolm Ross, the queen's longtime bodyguard, can't believe one of his kinsmen could be involved in this dastardly plot. He'll do everything in his power to prove his clan is innocent of treason, even if it means partnering with a testy and deadly thief-turned-spy... One who holds his heart in her hands after that single night they spent together years ago.

Malcolm must choose between his loyalty to his laird and his loyalty to his heart, as Court's "family" proves she doesn't even understand what loyalty is. When metal hits meat, can this unlikely duo learn to trust each other, or will the plot to bring down the Scottish monarchy succeed?

Review:
A while back I had read the little prequel short story and it had made me curious about the other Angels. This was really cheap on Amazon so I went ahead and grabbed it

The story follows lady Courtney who is deadly with the bow and had been raised with a band of thieves and murderers. With her different skills, it is without a doubt a great idea to have her be an Angel for the Queen. After an attempt on the Queen's life, Courtney has a mission to follow a lead. However, she will not be going alone. She is saddled with Malcolm Ross who had been a longtime bodyguard and can't believe one of his kinsmen might be involved in the plot. He will have to make a choice between loyalty to his laird and his loyalty to his heart.

Courtney kicks ass. I wish we could've seen more of her skills in other battles. She's a fun character and I wish we had more time with her. I liked Ross too. Especially with how much he loves his dang dog. So cute! Ross and Court were very cute together and they fit each other well. Ross has his heart on his sleeve and Court is a little cold and reserved.

Oo that baddie certainly was a baddie. However, I feel like there is more going on. I do not think that baddie is the main one we will be seeing. We'll have to read book 2 I guess to see what happens next ;) !

Honestly....I wish we had had more time with Court and Ross. I feel like there was more we could've seen. They had hook-ups in the past and obviously had feelings for each other for years, but I felt like I was missing something with these two. We needed more time to see them fall in love.

All-in-all this was a fun story with a fun cast of characters. I am curious to read more about the other angels. Hopefully, we get more time with them. Maybe we'll see more of Ross and Court in those. I'll give this 3 stars.

Movie Review: A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014)

A Million Ways to Die in the West Poster

Film Title: A Million Ways to Die in the West
Length:     1h 56min
Released:    30 May 2014 (USA)
Genre:  Comedy, Western
Rating: R
Where I Got It: Hulu

SUMMARY:

As a cowardly farmer begins to fall for the mysterious new woman in town, he must put his newly found courage to the test when her husband, a notorious gun-slinger, announces his arrival.

TRAILER:

REVIEW:
This has been on my TW list. I randomly found this on Hulu the other day while scrolling through looking for something silly to watch. This for sure fit what I needed.

As we all know the Wild Wild West was not an easy world...especially for cowards like Albert and his best friend Edward. When a mysterious woman comes to town, he finds that he actually may have some sort of courage to take on a deadly outlaw.

This was funny. Very funny. I actually rewatched it with BF because I knew he would enjoy it as well. However, there was story to this as well as character development. I love slapstick and mindless humor, but I do prefer a legit storyline and real characters that are not just there for humor for.

I adored Edward and Ruth. They were so cute.

Albert was adorable....but I am biased since I have a small crush on Seth MacFarlane. ;) But Albert was great especially when he was learning to shoot.

Poor Anna who got stuck with a crappy and evil hubbie. WHICH Liam Neeson plays an awesome baddie. He should play that role more often.

This was cheesy...100% so be prepared for that. And it is R rated which means it is a little graphic and has some crude humor. Not everyone's cup-a-tea, so I want to get that out there for folks. However, none of that didn't take over the story so that was nice (I do get annoyed when it is over-the-top).

OOOOOO that final clip at the end was fun! What a nice little cherry-on-top!

Overall, I liked this a lot. It gave me the humor I needed after such a rough week at work. I'll give this 4 stars.

Audiobook Review: Counterclockwise by Alethea Kontis

 Counterclockwise: A Short Story

Author: Alethea Kontis
Narrator: Danielle O'Farrell
Title: Counterclockwise: A Short Story
Genre: Romance, SciFi, WhatIf, Fantasy, Short Story
Format: Audiobook
Published: May 9th 2017
Where I got It: My shelf (audible)

Summary: Imagine a universe where, on November 5, 1605, Guy Fawkes's Gunpowder Plot was successful. The explosion resulted in a schism that split the British Prime Universe into two more planes of existence: one that went forwards in time (clockwise), and one that went backwards (counterclockwise, or widdershins). On All Hallows Eve every year, the bonds between these multiverses are strong enough to pull a body from one plane of existence to the other.

Edith Hornby lives in the clockwise universe--Edward Moriarty lives widdershins. But they meet often enough throughout their lives to form a bond even stronger than that which holds the universes together...

Review:
I randomly stumbled upon this one in Audible while I was looking for something short and sweet to finish up my work week. This caught my eye right away. I didn't even read the summary. I just started listening (I should do this more often)

In this story, Nov 5th happened. Guy Fawke's Gunpowder Plot was successful. However, it resulted in a schism that split the British Prime Universe into two planes of existence. Every Hallows Eve the bonds that keep the multiverses apart pulls a body from one plane of existence to the other for one day. Edith Hornby lives in the clockwise universe and Edward Moritarty lives in the widdershins. However, they keep meeting each other throughout their lives and they form a bond and love that transcends all universes.

This was very sweet and very sad. I felt bad for them because they could never, ever be together like how they want. It reminded me of the Doctor Who and River Song. So sad.

It was fun to watch everything from Edith's eyes. I do wish we could've seen more of Edward and what he had to go through. Maybe another book? *hint hint* But I liked both of them.

I do feel this could've been an amazing read. Don't get me wrong... I liked it a lot, but it could've been amazing. I feel there could've been more for these characters and more for this world. It is such a GREAT concept. I felt like this was a cliffnotes version.

The narrator was good. She did a wonderful job. I would like to listen to more.

Overall, I liked this. It was sweet and short. I do want more from these characters and from this world. I'll give this 3 stars.

Book Review: As The Stars Fall by Steve N. Lee

As The Stars Fall

Author: Steve N. Lee
Title: As The Stars Fall
Genre: Contemporary fiction, Coming-of-age
Format: ebook
Pages: 300
Published: August 25th 2020

Where I Got It: My shelf (Given to me by the author/publisher for my honest and unbiased opinion)

Summary: A desperate dog. A scarred girl. A bond nothing can break.

When a young girl suffering with her own tragedy comes across an injured young dog, she can’t resist helping him. Both having braved the worst the world had to throw at them, the pair quickly form an unbreakable bond. They picture their future as an endless stream of adventures filled with love, laughter, and good times.

But life has one last cruel trick to play…

At one moment heart-warming, the next heart-breaking, this is the story of a desperate dog’s roller coaster journey to be the one thing every good dog dreams of being – a best friend. Through a touching tale, As The Stars Fall explores how compassion can make us whole again and friendship can heal even the most broken of hearts.

Review: I am in love with stories like this. It always hits me right in the feels!

The story follows a young, desperate dog who has not had a lot of luck. A young girl finds him suffering in a moldy old box and takes him home. Little do they realize that they need each other. They quickly form an unbreakable bond that will last forever.

Where is my box of tissue?? This had me feeling all the feels. I had tears of joy and tears of sorrow. This author certainly played with my emotions with this one. I felt so bad for that dog and that girl. They really needed each other! It really struck a chord and made me have a lot of self-reflection and take a second look and remember all the animals and all the people that have come and gone in my life. It was a beautiful story for sure.

I simply love stories set in the animal point of view. It's tough (trust me, I had to do a short story for my creative writing class and it was tough) to really get it right and not be cliche or awkward. The author did an awesome and it felt natural and right and it fit the story that was being told.

OOOoooOOOoooooOOO that ending had me a blubbering mess. It was so good! But oooooooo the feels!

Honestly...I want to re-read this. It was quick but it certainly was awesome. I finished this in just a couple of sittings. This could've been 500 pages and I would have read every single page.

No issues at all for me. I was hooked from page 1 until the end. I do wish we had more of a conclusion with Dad though. Maybe he'll get a book someday. ;) I think he really needs something/someone.

Overall, I highly recommend this. Just be prepared to feel ALL the emotions and all the feels. It was such a good story. Amazing characters and a great story. This is for sure a strong contender for the best book of the year. ;) I'll give this 5 stars of course.

B's Monday Review: Divine Heretic by Jaime Lee Moyer

Hardcover, 400 pages

Published August 20th 2020 by Quercus Publishing, Jo Fletcher Books

Historical fiction

To review

I was a bit hesitant, because come on, Joanne d'Arc, that wont end well! But, it blew me away and at the end I was happy. It was perfectly told.

The writing was light, and suddenly I was at page 100. The pages really flew away, and this is more the origin story of hers.

She is a shepherd's daughter. The English are roaming the countryside, and she gets visions early on. And it was so well done because who are those that come to her? Angels? Demons? Or the Fae? Why do they come to her? And why are they such utter bastards? They say she is destined to free France, and it can only be her, if she refuse they will hurt her. Yes,they were bastards. I liked seeing her growing up because it shaped her. I did wonder where the whole La Pucelle thing would come in, but I did not mind, I liked actually getting to know Joanne. To see a real person behind the story.

It was not what I expected, I guess I thought a war heavy historical. Instead I got a lighter growing up story, and giving up to the fate trusted upon her. I liked the side characters as her brother, and Ethan. You will see.

And I liked how it ended too. I was glad to have read it, and I did finish it in a day (it helped that I was home with a sick kid so I could read all day)

Final thoughts: I'd say definitely read it, it is not what you expect it to be

Blurb: Everyone knows the story of Joan of Arc, a peasant girl who put Charles VII on the throne and spearheaded France's victory over Britain before being burned by the English as a heretic and witch.

But things are not always as they appear.

Jeanne d'Arc was only five when three angels and saints first came to her. Shrouded by a halo of heavenly light, she believed their claim to be holy. The Archangel Michael and Saint Margaret told her she was the foretold Warrior Maid of Lorraine, fated to free France and put a king upon his throne.

Saint Catherine made her promise to obey their commands and embrace her destiny; the three saints would guide her every step. Jeanne bound herself to these creatures without knowing what she'd done. As she got older, Jeanne grew to mistrust and fear the voices, and they didn't hesitate to punish her cruelly for disobedience. She quickly learned that their cherished prophecy was more important than the girl expected to make it come true.

Jeanne is only a shepherd's daughter, not the Warrior Maid of the prophecy, but she is stubborn and rebellious, and finds ways to avoid doing - and being - what these creatures want. Resistance has a terrifying price, but Jeanne is determined to fight for the life she wants.

But when the cost grows too high, Jeanne will risk everything to save her brother, her one true friend and the man she loves.

Not everyone is destined to be a hero. Sometimes you have no choice.

Joint Review: Artificial Condition by Martha Wells

Hello all! Blodeuedd and I will be discussing "Artificial Condition" by Martha Wells. Blodeuedd is in red and I am in purple.

Artificial Condition (The Murderbot Diaries, #2)

Author: Martha Wells
Title: Artificial Condition
(The Murderbot Diaries #2)
Genre: SciFi, Novella
Published:  May 8th 2018
Format: ebook & audiobook
Narrated by: Kevin R. Free
Pages: 158

Summary: It has a dark past – one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself “Murderbot”. But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title, and it wants to know more.

Teaming up with a Research Transport vessel named ART (you don’t want to know what the “A” stands for), Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue.

What it discovers will forever change the way it thinks…

Discussion:
Here we go,Murderbot is back!I enjoyed this one again. I am glad I tried them cos I remember thinking that why bother since they are only novellas.

Yes! I am glad we tried these! I really liked book 2. I think even a touch more than book 1!!

I am not sure which one I liked more, the first was just right! And this one, well here I knew she was different and funny. ALso Art, I mean ART was great.

ART really topped the cake for me. ART was hilarious!! Bot was funny too and it was nice to learn more about Bot and see Bot try to act more human.

I did like that we found out what happened, poor Bot. And the trying to be human thing, well they are quite the pair! Great chemistry lol

They made an epic duo. I hope they have more adventures together. They were fun!

I guess cos it is a novella, I do not have a lot to say to be honest. Great novella, and I can’t wait to see what Bot is up to next!

Plus it was really good and I have zero issues with it. I did listen to the audio version and I liked it. His voice was good. It worked well. However, I think I would’ve liked reading it too (I did read like a chapter of it). Either way this is a great story.

Audio would be interesting. But I am sticking with ebooks :D But now you have me wondering, I wonder if I can find a sample.

Maybe Audible has a sample you can listen to? I may stick with the ebooks for the future or go back and forth? IDK. I’ll play it by ear.

Good idea. Wow, this discussion is short! I just have nothing to say. It was a good one.Shit went down. Bot came out on top.

LOL our positive reviews are always short ;) Yessss this was a good one. I liked it more than book 1. Bot is awesome. ART was fun! More pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

True!
The end?

That’s all I got! The end!

Summary: Faith is on the cusp of having it all. She made it through the last of her college finals and is looking forward to starting her career. If only her twin would answer her damned phone. After three days of no word, she's forced to drive to Devils Point and search for her. As her luck goes, things go south the minute she hits creepy island. Starting with a wolf attack that lands her in hot water with her sister's bad ass boss.

Damien just wants to get through Mating Season and get back to normal. His would be mate is not at all what he expected and not exactly his type. Not to mention off limits. Until she shows up smelling like another wolf. Now all bets are off and this Alpha will do anything to protect her--including claim her.

Review: Been itching for a werewolf book for a little bit and then I seen this freebie on Amazon so I decided to give a try.

Faith is on the cusp of having it all. She made it through her exams and is looking forward to her promising career. However, her sister has not gotten back to her in 3 days so she is forced to track her down and drive to Devils Point and find her. In the middle of looking for her, she comes across a wolf that attacks her. Damien just wants to get through Mating Season and get back to normal business. He has a business to run! And to top it all off his supposed mate, Faith, shows up smelling another wolf. Now he has to protect and try to claim her as his own before another wolf does.

This was short and sweet. Finished it in a couple of sittings. No real huge drama accept for the fact that Faith is introduced into the wolf world of course and she has to make a decision if she wants to be Damien's mate or not. WHICH I really approve of the whole consent thing. Sure she is supposed to be his mate...but she can totally opt out if she wants. Sure Alpha Damien convinces her that now she was bitten and his mate she should stay and it would be safer that way....but it was still her choice overall. I like that aspect a lot.

I will say I HATE their names. Faith and Rebel? Twins? Faith is the good one and Rebel...is well...the rebel and does what she wants? Okay. >_<

Faith was okay...she was annoyingly perfect though. I think she took all the reveals too easily.

Can I just say I do not like Rebel? She is a snot. Poor Faith having to deal with her. Poor Rebel's future mate (her story is book 2). SMH. Such a rude person. I really do not want to read book 2 because of her. Maybe she'll get better?

Damien was sweet. He was alpha but not over-the-top which was nice and refreshing for this genre.

Overall...this was short and sweet. Some refreshing aspects like the Alpha not being over-the-top and there was consent with this whole mate thing. I'll give this 3 stars.

Summary: Hunter Armstrong sauntered back into my life unexpectedly, all lopsided grin, mischievous eyes and rugged determination. Not to mention a huge heart. He’s nearly impossible to resist, but that’s what I have to do as we follow the clues in a trail of love letters from a century ago. But with every new twist in the story, this treasure hunter seems to set his sights more firmly on reclaiming my heart. I desperately want to believe him, but the trouble is I don’t know if I’m simply getting swept up in the past, or if we can truly try again for a brand new present.

Review:
The final installment! Yesssss I could not stop myself from listening to it NOW.

We get to see Hunter try and win back the one he let getaway at the same time of trying to find all the love letters from a century ago. At the end of the journey will they find their love and the secrets of the past?

So good. Sooooooo good. It made the other 2 worth it. Yes, the others were good, but this ending was fantastic.

The ending SHOCKED me with the big twist and reveal at the end there. WAAAAH??? I want more now!!!!!! That was for sure different and unique. I loved it.

Hunter...you dang cutie. He really did earn her back and I am happy. He started off as a poophead and he made up for what he did and did deserve the girl. I was not fully onboard with her forgiving him until the ending. He truly (I felt) made up for how he treated her.

Overall, I really ended up loving this romance. I highly recommend this for sure. 5 stars

TMST: Book Worlds I Want to Visit

TMSToption2Blue

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post on Rainy Day Ramblings where Rainy discusses a wide range of topics from books to blogging.

What book worlds would you love to visit?

Awwww there are so many book worlds I would love to visit for a million different reasons.

Of course the world of Harry Potter. But I would want to have magic so I can enjoy having powers.

Lord of Rings. After the great wars of course. I do (edit - thanks B)*NOT* want to be killed by orcs.

Mystic Cove. Again - I want to have some powers and I want to meet all my favorite characters!

Twilight. I want to get me one of those werewolf hotties ;) Can I bring him back to this world tho?

Reluctant Royals. I want to be BFFs with those royals :D

Mystic Bayou. I would only want to go when it is not summer because it is soooo humid. I want to meet all the different supernatural peeps.

Weird Girls. It would have to be in the future once all the war and fighting is done.

One of Austen's worlds. Maybe I can find a Mr. Darcy of my own ;)

Okay - those are just a few of the worlds I want to visit.

The idea behind it all was good, I guess. Honestly I am not sure I get their society. They are like bees and are all related? I mean there is one queen and one guy so...

Anyway we have brooding Moon who wants to belong.

There are baddies in the sky, ground.

There are so many different sentient species. I'd say too many, how did so many evolve?

Oh right, Moon. He wants to find others like him. Drama.

I do not know. I was just not that into it. Did I read it? Yes, do I want more...no, but I would like to see where he came from. If the library had it I would skim it.

Book Review: The Girl from Vichy by Andie Newton

The Girl from Vichy

Author: Andie Newton
Title: The Girl from Vichy
Genre: Historical Fiction

Summary: 1942, occupied France.
As the war in Europe rages on, Adèle Ambeh dreams of a France that is free from the clutches of the new regime. The date of her marriage to a ruthless man is drawing closer, and she only has one choice – she must run.

With the help of her mother, Adèle flees to Lyon, seeking refuge at the Sisters of Notre Dame de la Compassion. From the outside this is a simple nunnery, but the sisters are secretly aiding the French Resistance, hiding and supplying the fighters with weapons.

While it is not quite the escape Adèle imagined, she is drawn to the nuns and quickly finds herself part of the resistance. But her new role means she must return to Vichy, and those she left behind, no matter the cost.

Each day is filled with a different danger and as she begins to fall for another man, Adèle's entire world could come crashing down around her.

Adèle must fight for her family, her own destiny, as well as her country.

Review:
I couldn't wait to read this! I loooooove spy novels and wwii stories.

The story follows Adele who started as a girl just running away from a terrible man who she is being forced to marry as war in Europe rages on. She hides and takes refuge at the Sisters of Notre Dame de la Compassion. From the outside this looks like a simple nunnery, but the sisters are secretly helping the French Resistance. Adele is drawn to the nuns and quickly finds herself part of the resistance, but her new role means she has to return home. Adele must fight for her family, destiny, love, and for her country.

I will admit the beginning did not capture me right away. It took a while for me to really warm up to our characters and the story itself. It was a little slow while we were waiting for Adele to figure out the truth about the nunnery.

Once a certain event happened and Adele's world went spiraling to the spy world then I was invested and finished reading the rest of the book in one day. I simply could NOT put this down!!! SOOOO good.

Poor Adele. I was so mad at her dad and her sister. They were just soooooo blind. I would've had a hard time dealing with them and keeping a straight face. I get it...family is family....but still.....they needed a good shaking.

I adored Luc. I wish we had more time with him overall.

Adele's partner (I won't name names because that is a huge spoiler) was my hero. I felt so bad for this character but I had to applaud for the character's bravery and loyalty.

OOOOoooOOOOoooOOOOooooOOOOOO that ending was amazing. I did get a little tear of joy there. That was so powerful.

Overall, I really liked this book. The beginning was a little rough for me but after a certain event I simply could not put it down. This had everything you would want in a spy novel during wartime. Action, romance, drama. That ending even gave me a little tear of joy. I'll give this 4 stars.
