REVIEW:

I really, really wanted to watch this on the big screen. How can you not? This story has remained a classic for a reason. 

Here we follow Odysseus and his family. Odysseus went to war and then tried to come home. Along the way, he will suffer many of the gods' creations. Is it a test? Is it a punishment? Is it both? While he is making his journey, his wife and son are at home trying to keep his throne open, but Penelope is forced to house suitors who want her hand so they can rule. 

Man, this was an amazing cast. Even the side characters were amazing. Don't listen to the haters who hated that they cast a diverse cast. THIS IS A FANTASY. THIS IS NOT A BIOGRAPHY. Everyone was cast perfectly. They all did amazing!!! I was especially in awe of Robert Pattinson playing our main baddie of a suitor. Damn, he was good at being evil, but also being a coward. Loved it.

The way they told  this story was awe-inspiring. I loved how the past was told in story form. We only got glimpses when someone was telling the story. It really is a lovely nod to how stories used to be told. It was clever and amazing. 

I am SOOOO glad we had limited CGI. The CGI we did have was clean and nice. It was nice seeing some old Hollywood tricks coming into play. 

AND THAT ENDING? OMG the big reveal was heartbreaking and beautiful, and I couldn't stop the tears from falling. Man, that was a powerful scene. 

But yes, this is bloody, and it is set during ancient Greece....so it is dark, and human and animal life meant little. 

5 stars from me. I want to watch this again!

REVIEW:

I had heard that Brendan Fraser was playing good ol' Ike Eisenhower. Love this actor, and I am addicted to WWII. So when this popped up on Peacock, I had to check it out. 

It is 72 hours before D-Day. Captain Stagg and General Eisenhower will face an impossible choice....when to launch the most dangerous seaborne invasion in history.

Being a nerd, I knew why D-Day was delayed, and it is just facts. I never really knew the behind-the-scenes of this decision. I loved that they showed this part of the war. Not all heroes wave a gun around or are the face of an Army. Some heroes are nerds who are meteorologists. 

I'm glad we didn't get stuck on the details of the science. I wouldn't know anything, and I feel like if it was too science-y, you would lose some of the viewers. We want the drama. The decisions. The war. 

I liked the cast overall. They fit, and they all did well. I did have issues with Fraser acting "angry". It just didn't land quite right for me. Maybe it is because he just has such a kind face. LOL. Other than that, I think he did an excellent job as the man who is larger than life. Eisenhower was brilliant, but he knew he didn't know everything. That is why he was such a great leader. Leaders don't know everything. They rely on their team to help. Beautifully done.

Honestly, I would watch this again. This was really good. 

If you like WWII films, you'll like this. This is just another story and another POV that helped with the war efforts. 

I would say 4.5, but I rounded up because I'm a sucker for WWII and Fraser. 5 stars. 

Movie Review: Enola Holmes 3 (2026)

Number 3 babbbyyyy!

We are back with Enola and crew. This time they are in Malta, and Enola is about to wed. Gasp. But a kidnapping, murder, and many a mystery land on her shoulders to solve, so the wedding is postponed. 

Like the others, this was fun. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and neither should the viewer. There is humor and a LOT of fourth wall breaking. 

My biggest issue with the film was the lack of mystery. Yes, it is "there," sure, but the first like 5 mins for sure ruins the mystery. Sure, our fearless detective doesn't know, but we know. I did not like that one bit. Like, come on. 

It was fun to uncover the what and why. Enola was on a clock and 10 steps behind for so long. Plus...fixing what she broke was nice to see. I think he was being a little.....dramatic. But it is what it is. 

Oh! I did like the serious tones near the end. It was nice to keep this from being too campy. 

In the end, I had fun with this. The local was fun, the mission was okay, and there were some nice serious tones attached that helped deepen the story. Yes, yes, I laughed a few times at the funny moments.

3 stars from me. 

Movie Review: Young Washington (2026)

REVIEW:

Oh, Georgie Wash. I was so excited to see this!!!! I had to go see it in theaters. My fellow history nerd friend and I went to see it. And yes, I dragged poor Hubby along. 

We all know the history of George Washington. But how many know his early days? It was not an easy road for him. 

The cast was lovely. I LOVED who they had to play young George. I hope, in a few years, he can play an older George. He really filled those shoes well.

One thing of note I kept whispering to myself was the camera angles, especially in the battle scenes. They felt different but good. There is so much going on, and you feel in the middle of it. I think the camera team did great. 

Some of the dialogue felt a little cliché, but it didn't ruin the story or characters. I loved the foreshadow drops. Made me chuckle.

There was a "special message" at the end...skip it. It didn't add anything extra to the story or whatever. 

I would for sure watch this again. The battle, the story. It was entertaining and a reminder that everyone starts somewhere. A leader is not born. A leader is made. 

4 stars from me.

Whoopsies. Meant to post this last week....eee!

Anyways...

Soooo I wasn't even excited to watch this. I'm so picky with my SciFi, and I feel like so many are just carbon copies of each other. However, the group wanted to stay and watch it, so I stayed too. ANNNND I was pleasantly surprised. 

Okay - so the story takes place in the future-ish. A science teacher wakes up alone on a ship and can't remember where or why he is there. He keeps getting flashbacks of his time on Earth. As he starts piecing together what happened, he realizes... it is up to him to save Earth. He is literally the last chance to figure out how to stop this mysterious substance from killing their Sun. This substance is killing all the stars, but one, and that is where he is headed. Along the way, he will team up with someone...something...unexpected. 

Okay. Okay. I take it back. I thought this was going to be boring and just a carbon copy. This was fresh and fun. Yes, Earth is in peril, but the movie still had some humor. It felt like real life in a weird way. Yes, dark and gloomy and scary, BUT there are good moments.

I LOVED Rocky. Best character of the year. I would burn the Earth for him. 

The cast was lovely. Our main was great...as usual. Awkward and adorable. Adorkable, some might say. 

The science-y parts were not too science-y, and I appreciated that. I hate when SciFi gets too lost in the details. Sure, I'm sure some science lovers wanted more "details". But meh. They balanced it well. Science stuff and then stuff for non-science people. Everyone can enjoy this. 

Some scenes could've been snipped and trimmed a little bit. Some dragged on a bit too long.

The ending was lovely, and I would've liked to see more. 

All-in-all, I was pleasantly surprised by this film! I went in a negative Nancy and came out wanting to watch this movie again. WHA? Yes! I'll watch it again. It was fun. Some scenes needed a bit of snipping to help the story along, but I liked it overall. 4 stars from me.

REVIEW:

I've been wanting to watch this movie since I saw the very first trailer. How freakin' adorable and funny! AND THERE ARE SHEEEP!!!!

Every night, George, the shepherd, reads aloud a murder mystery to his flock. He likes to pretend that the sheep can understand him, but he knows they are just sheep. Little does he know that they have been listening and understand him. When he is found dead one day, the sheep realize they are the only ones who can solve the crime, so they vow to help the local cop. 

This had everything. Cuteness, humor, sadness, mystery, and thought-provoking moments. I really adored it. 

The mystery was nicely done. I totally called it ;) I wasn't sure HOW it was possible, so I didn't get the how. I'll take it as a win. 

OMG THE WINTERLAMB! GIMME!!!!!! I want to snuggle the heck out of that baby. 

The cast was great. 

The ending had me in happy tears. 

I can't wait to watch this again.

REVIEW:

Omg, it's been soooo long since the first movie was released. I def blame Covid for the huge delay. I'm just glad we finally got this!!!!

We are back. Shao Kahn and his dark real rule threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm. They need to beat him or he will rule. Johnny Cage is now added to the ranks. 

So fun. So cool. Loved the fighting and the story and the cinematics!!!!! 

What a cast!!! So good. 

And nooooo my fave!! EVERY TIME!!! But, luckily, death is never fully the end for our characters. That ending gives me hope. I can't wait for movie 3. Hopefully, we don't have to wait a million years again.

My only "issue" is that the plot felt too fast. We got right into it. I would've liked more time with our characters. 

What else can I say? This is funny, dark, brutal, and just plain fun. Now, I need to re-watch movie 1.

4 stars.

Weeeee! Mario is back with another movie!

Mario and the crew are back. This time, they will have to venture into space and tackle some big galactic challenges. 

Last minute, I made Hubby go with me to the movie. I needed something funny and light. This was precisely what I needed, and I'm so glad we saw this on the big screen. 

Lots of laughs. Lots of action. Lots of references. Lots of awwwwwes. Adorable and def need to see. 

I will say that this was super action-packed. Maybe a bit TOO action-y. They were shoving a LOT of stuff into one film, and it never seemed to stop. I would've loved to see some more relaxing and chatting between the characters to establish more of the friendship elements, especially with "newer" characters being introduced.

Other than that, I still enjoyed the film. I would for sure watch this again. 

4 stars from me.

REVIEW:

Eeeeeeeeeeek. Been dying to watch this film. I love some Shakespeare and I remember writing a huge paper on him and his life. Not much is known about his wife, which is sad. 

Here we follow Agnes (Anne) who is a healer and falls for William. He is younger and just a local tutor with dreams of being a playwright. Years go by and things find a nice pace....until their lives are fractured and everything is tested when their beloved son passes away. 

I cried. 

I cried A LOT. 

This film was beautiful. This film hit all the emotions. There was some humor but this was a tragedy. 

That last scene? I was in awe. Beautiful. The way that we got to see forgiveness and love without a single word. This took some powerful actors and this was a lovely cast.

You do not need to be a huge 'Hamlet' or Shakespeare fan to enjoy this film. It was a lovely people story. 

5 stars.

REVIEW:

I saw this trailer a while back, and I have been waiting and waiting for it to arrive in the US. When it finally did, I dragged Hubby to the couch to make him watch this with me. I looove a good Dracula film!

Here we have Dracula, who was a prince in the 15th-century. He killed and did many bad things in the name of God. The only thing he asked for was protection for his wife. Well...she was murdered and died in his arms, so he turned his back on God, which in turn God gave him an eternal curse. Condemned to never die and to drink blood for survival. He hopes his beloved will be reincarnated since she was of a pure soul. 400 years later...he has found her and no one will stop him from reclaiming his love. 

What a lovely cast. What a lovely story. I really, really enjoyed it. The guy who played Dracula was amazing. 

This rendition certainly played up the love story and made this more of a romance. Still some horror elements, but certainly more romantic. 

That last scene literally broke me. SOO good. SOO perfect.

No issues for me. Hubby said he liked it, but he thought it had some weird elements. I disagree. I liked the change-ups. 

We have the romance and the horror. We also were given splashes of comedy that made me smile. 

I'll give this 5 stars. I want to watch it again!

Movie Review: Wuthering Heights (2026)

REVIEW:

When I saw the trailer for the first time months ago, I knew I had to go see this. 'Wuthering Heights' is one of my favorite books to date. I read it every few years. I would read it every year, but it is a tragic read for sure. 

Here we have Cathy and Heathcliff. We all know the story. They are toxic, and their love is destructive. He misunderstands her conversation and leaves. She marries Linton. He comes back rich and ready to either have her or destroy everything. 

I will admit....I was nervous about the casting here. Mainly so our Heathcliff. I've seen this acting, and I like him, but I didn't know if he could pull off the dark side of Heathcliff. The youthful and in love version is doable, but the toxic side? I was nervous. HOWEVER, I was proven wrong. He did a delightful job. I wanted to clap. 

The rest of the cast was lovely. They all did a great job making you hate them and/or feel pity for them. I also loved the kid versions they cast. They actually looked like mini versions of our characters. Lovely. 

So, I went with Hubby and our mutual friend. Hubby barely remembered the last version I made him watch, but our mutual friend had never seen or read the book. After the movie ended, he said, "Man. I started off liking them, but I hated them by the end." I replied, "Yep. They are all terrible, terrible humans. Minus Linton, who didn't deserve any of this." And that is why I love this. They are all so toxic to each other. Maybe if everyone just sat down and talked ALL of this drama could've been avoided. So many hurt feelings. So many betrayals. So dang tragic. 

The aesthetic and music choice was interesting. I was a little unsure at first, but I grew to like it a lot. The colors were bold. 

The ending was different from the book. Which is fine. They cut out a whole part of Heathcliff's schemes, but it isn't the first movie adaptation that has done this. 

I was also really annoyed that they didn't include a huge part of Cathy's monologue describing her love for Heathcliff and Linton. It's classic! It is what all of booknerds wanted to hear! Disappointing!

In the end, I did enjoy this. I can see myself watching this again. It was intense and delightful, but in a dark way. They changed the ending, which didn't bug me too much. My biggest complaint is so minuscule, but I LOVE that whole quote. I'll give this 4 stars. 

 

Movie Reviews: Billy Madison, Murder Mystery, & Just Go With It

Sometimes I just need some silly and fun Adam Sandler movies in my life! I find myself needing a good movie marathon of his movies to lighten my mood. Weeee!

Simply a classic. One of my faves of his! 5 stars!

 

Had to rewatch this one! Still fun after all this time! 5 stars 

I never seen this one before!!! Not sure how this slipped through the cracks. But yes. Cheesy...unbelievable, but a huge laugh. 4 stars. 

Movie Review: Nuremberg (2025)

REVIEW:

Rarely do I go to the theater anymore, but when I do it is for a movie that I've been itching to see. This is one of them. I took my fellow history-loving friend and Hubby. I'm so glad we did. 

The movie follows Dr Kelley as he is tasked with being a psychiatrist for the Nazi leaders arrested. They will be facing trial. One of the main leaders is Hermann Goring who is 2nd in charge of Nazi Germany. Dr Kelley becomes obsessed with learning and understanding the evil in front of him. 

This movie is haunting me. I want to go back and see it again. The way they filmed this was great. They really dig into the minds of these Nazi bastards. Especially Goring. Goring and Kelley form a weird friendship until Kelley sees something that cannot redeem these men. 

The first half you can see how Goring got to where he was in life. He was charming and sauve and he felt like you could have a beer with him. He was an amazing maniuplator. There were times I started to feel bad for him, but then the court scene. Oh.My.God. I was in tears. It was hard to watch but it was a HUGE reminder that these men were evil. Pure evil. Sure they are human at their core and maybe didn't start evil, but they were just as bad as Hitler. 

I loved how complex this was. It was so layered and I couldn't look away. The acting was amazing and if they don't receive an award....then I don't know what a good movie is. 

But yes, trigger warning....I'll put a spoiler alert here: There are ACTUAL scenes from the camps that they show at the trial. [End spoiler] I felt these were super important to display to remind viewers of the terrible events that transpired and that our pity for these men could and should only go far. 

The scene where Kelley gets in Goring's face was Oscar-worthy for both men. Damn. You could feel the hatred. 

100% worth the watch. This movie came out at a good time to remind us that evil is great at hiding. Evil men (and women) are amazing at charming their way to the top. They are great at tricking and lying straight to our faces. Bad people can do a lot of damage. Sure, they may have not started off as evil, but power is a nasty, nasty thing.

5 stars.

REVIEW:

Been meaning to watch this for spooky season since it came out in 2023. Finally sat down and watched it with Hubby. 

Kevin and his family have moved into a new house that needs some work. Lots of surprises await in this slightly run-down house...including a ghost named Ernest. Kevin, his family, and Ernest become overnight social media sensations when a video of Ernest is uploaded to the web. At the same time as juggling success, Ernest doesn't remember who he is and why he is haunting this house, so Kevin decides to help him out. With their growing popularity, the CIA reinstates the ghost department to hunt this ghost down and take him in....for science. 

This was an interesting take on ghosts. It was fun. I don't want to spoil anything about the ghost and his powers/etc. But it was an interesting take. 

This story had humor but it also had some deeper feels going on. I liked it. There was a splash of love between Kevin and the girl next door and that was cute. A little awkward though. 

Speaking of awkward. There were some cringy and awkward scenes like Kevin singing to the ghost. Mm. Or the scene in the motel. Mmm. It didn't ruin the film, but it made me cringe a smidge. 

Awwwww the scene at the end. I actually teared up a teeny, tiny bit. It was beautiful. 

Overall, this was a fun film. Funny and some serious tones thrown in. There were some cringey scenes, but a beautiful ending. I'll give this 4 stars. 

Movie Review: Beauty and the Beast (2014)

REVIEW:

My friend suggested this as we were having a girl's night. Love B&B so yesssss. Plus made by the French? Okaaaayyyyy!

The story is as old as time, but with some different twists and turns. The youngest daughter of a indebted merchant sacrifices herself to the beast in order to spare her father. There is magic and mystery and Belle is determined to solve it. Little does she know she will fall in love with the beast. 

I would love to go back and re-watch this in the original French. We did the dubbed version and it was fine, but I really do prefer watching foreign films in the original language. But yes, the dubbed was fine. 

The twists and changes to the story were...great. I loved it. The "witch" is not at all what you think. I won't spoil anything because it is the big reveal on how and why he was turned into a beast. I honestly teared up. He wasn't a horrible man, but I get why he and his friends got got. 

OMG the little creature things were adorable!!!! I won't spoil what they are. BUT THOSE BIG OL' EYES! Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

My only real issue was the lack of romance. She hated him and hated him and there was barely any warmth or even friendship. And then suddenly she is in love? The beast and I were both shocked at her declaration of love. Oh? Really? Could've fooled me. 

I hate Belle's siblings especially her one dumb brother. Idiot. BUT they really did get what they deserved and it helped them get better. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to change your ways. Look at the beast. Tale as old as time for sure. 

This was a gorgeous movie. Fun changes and I loved the ending. It was so very sweet. I wished we had some more warm moments from Belle though. She was just so mean and cold for so long.

I'll give this 4 stars. Def worth the watch. I want to watch this again in French though.
