And I was so mad at the dad for a while there. Ugh. Why are people so greedy???</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: #9900ff; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">I was mad too, but at the same time I understood. His kingdom and people were dying. Dunno what much help money will do though, it is obvi pretty bad there.</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Yess, the money doesn’t seem that helpful at the end of the day. They literally need to move or something. But then here comes a green paradise</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Yes….I feel like they should’ve showed us WHY it was so rough. Bad winter(s)? And I also wanted more in the end. I feel like we needed to see more. </span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: #9900ff; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">We will never know….</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Sadly not. I can’t imagine a 2nd movie. Not sure where they can go with the whole thing. Unless they do something with the sister. Or if Elodie is THAT unlucky and finds herself in a whole different wild situation. </span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: #9900ff; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">I am good with no more. It was a good movie, and it ended. More would be…tricky. I do not want to see Elodie getting unlucky again. Then they are surely cursed. Oh and I will try to say this without spoilers. So at the end the island is just left…like who. And they just can. Dunno if you know what I am getting at. Turmoil people, turmoil!</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Same. I’m fine with it being one movie. Elodie is a gem and doesn’t need more struggles. Same with that surprise/twist character. Eeeee. Okay. I need to spoil….[SPOILER ALERT] I wonder if Elodie is going back to their home to bring them back to this land? I mean…it is empty now. Unless the land will go to being poopy because they won’t have the dragon’s heat keeping everything like paradise? [END OF SPOILER]</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Ooo! SO many twists and turns. When we learned a certain fact, I had an idea in mind…and I’m glad I was right but OMG I was worried!!!</span></p><br /><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: #9900ff; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Make it happen any other way and I would have been maaaad! Witches, Ghosts, Molly Harper, and Michigan????? YAS. </div><div><br /></div><div>Here we follow Riley and Edison. Riley finds herself inheriting a very haunted Victorian house after her Aunt passes away. Riley has these new powers and new responsibilities with only her aunt's journals and a cranky ghost butler to help her on this new journey. And there is that frustrating but ridiculously attractive head librarian....Edison. Edison hopes he can convince the new owner of the Shaddow House to let him take a peek inside the mysterious house. </div><div><br /></div><div>This was simply adorable. I loved, loved, loved this story. Maybe I'm biased since it is set in Michigan and it made me giggle whenever a Michigan reference was given. eeee. Plus...Molly Harper is always fun.</div><div><br /></div><div>Loved our characters. Edison is a sweetie. Riley is a gem. Her two new friends? Loved them too and I can't wait to read Caroline's book which is next in the series. Awwww and that butler was adorably grumpy and fatherly. Cute. Now....my only issue was how quickly Caroline was onboard with everything. At least Edison fainted! Caroline was oddly....okay. Did seem realistic. Granted, magic is involved but still. Too quick. </div><div><br /></div><div>The narrators are always fun. We have two narrators here. One for Riley's POV and one for Edison's. His voices for girls are always just okay, but he has such a deep voice so it's hard I'm sure. Her voices are always good. I wish she changed up her female voices a bit more. </div><div><br /></div><div>All-in-all, so much fun. This was adorable. Fun setting, fun characters, fun concept. And that house is amazing even with ALL the ghosts. Can't wait for book 2! Ones I couldn't, I watched some clips so I could remember which was which and etc. I haven't done a P&P movie marathon since I was a wee little thing. </div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><br /></div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on">Now, I love all of them. They all have their own sparkle and shine, but here is my list! (Please note - I am not counting any adaptions that are put in modern times or weird situations like P&P Zombies...which I still need to watch that someday)</div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><br /></div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><u><b>5. I struggled with watching this back in the day. Not sure if I even finished it or did I just forget? Who knows. I recently just watched some clips to try and spark my memory. </div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><br /></div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on">I will admit that I remember this being very, very close to the book. I did some reading and people agree that this is the closet to the books. But omg....so 80s. The acting is okay. The cast is okay.</div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><br /></div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on">Maybe someday I'll track down the full version to re-watch. Maybe being older I will like this better. </div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><br /></div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><b><u>4. It was one that was hard to locate since it never made it to home video. I barely remember this one and, to my delight, I was able to find all the episodes on YouTube. </div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><br /></div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on">I did really like this and it gives play feels. Simple transitions and simple backgrounds. I enjoyed the Lizzie and Darcy. However, I struggled to like the Mr. Bingley. He seemed to be missing that easy charm. I am bummed they cut one of the sisters, Mary. Boo. She is my third favorite Bennet sister. </div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><br /></div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on">Oooo I did love the fact we got to see more of the Bingleys and their POVs. That was nice.</div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><br /></div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on">Very fun and very old school. Def worth a watch. This seems to be a favorite amongst the community. </div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><br /></div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on">I adore the Darcy here, but he isn't my favorite Darcy amongst all four of these fellas. The cast is amazing and they all do a great job. However, I struggle with the Lizzie here. She seems...bored (?) for the majority of the film. It's hard to pinpoint, but she just doesn't feel like Lizzie-esque to me. I'm sure there is a riot outside my window with this opinion. *hides in the basement*</div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><br /></div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on">The costumes are great and I loved the music in this one. I did like that it is pretty faithful to the original story so bonus points there. </div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><br /></div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><b><u>2. Many put this much lower on the list, but this was my first P&P movie so it holds a special place in my heart. It is under-appreciated! </div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><br /></div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on">Love, love, love the Darcy and Lizzie. This Lizzie is my 2nd favorite and this Darcy takes first place in my heart. I love them. I love the cast. Darcy's 2nd proposal at the end always makes my heart thump. Awwwwww. *swoons*</div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on"><br /></div><div dir="ltr" trbidi="on">This is def 1940s vibe, so be warned. Finally decided to jump in. </div><div><br /></div><div>We continue with Lizzie and Darcy. They survived the last battle but the war keeps going on. Lizzie and Darcy are trying to balance duty and their love. They are partners mages, but also a married couple. When events happen, Lizzie finds herself being blamed for them. Rumors spread and now very few people trust her. She will have to try and figure out how to find out the truth before her enemies finally destroy her for good. </div><div><br /></div><div>I wanted to slap everyone (except for Lizzie and dear Jane)!!!!!!!!!! I especially wanted to kick Darcy in the face. JUST communicate. TALK TO LIZZIE DARN YOU!</div><div><br /></div><div>I felt very frustrated with this one. I truly don't understand why everyone blamed her so easily. Damn rich folks. Even though she saved all of them in the last battle and she is a wonderful mage, they still look down their noses at her. Damn aholes. </div><div><br /></div><div>Hopefully with the conclusion of this one everyone will stop jumping on the Blame-Lizzie Train. We'll see how book 3 goes. Yes, I plan on reading the next one. </div><div><br /></div><div>OOooOO! Jane is here! I loved getting to see her more. She, and the rest of the Bennetts, were barely seen in book 1 so it was lovely to finally see Jane and Bingley start falling for each other (no spoiler here...we all know they are soulmates). </div><div><br /></div><div>The narrator was good. I really enjoyed her voices. I hope she does the third book.</div><div><br /></div><div>All-in-all, I didn't like this one nearly as much as book 1. I found myself SO annoyed SO many times. Yes, I get why Lizzie might be slightly sus, but Darcy should've communicated and talked to her. It's like all his character growth from book 1 went away for a while. Yes, he finally opens his eyes, but I wanted to kick him. I hope book 3 is way better and not so Blame-Lizzie-for-everything-damn-the-proof. I'll give this 3 stars. It would've been 2 stars, but with Jane and Bingley finally meeting....and the last scene at the Ball....I was content.</div><div><br /></div><div>One Word Summary: Frustrating</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; My friend has been wanting us to read this for a while, but she kept putting it on the backburner. She finally decided it was time for us to check this out. </div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;">Here we have a family that looks perfect. A dad with a great job. A mom who decided to stay home and take care of their child. However, things are not what they seem. Their little girl, Hanna, hasn't uttered a word since she was a baby, but is extremely smart. Hanna doesn't want to go to school so she keeps finding ways to get expelled and stay home. She doesn't want her mother, Suzette, around anymore. Suzette is plain exhausted, but things are looking dark as it seems Hanna has plans to get rid of her. </div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;">This was pretty dark. Hanna has her dad tricked and blinded to her true intent. She doesn't want to go to school and she doesn't want her mom around. Along with her side kick...aka imaginary friend....or not? Who knows....she plans to get rid of her mom for good so she can have her father to herself. </div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;">Suzette isn't perfect, but I felt so bad for her. She didn't deserve to have a monster of a child or a husband who doesn't believe her. So cliche that the man doesn't believe their wife but it made me chuckle when Suzette called that out when talking to the therapist. </div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;">This was intense and I had no idea what was going to happen. Hanna was a monster and oddly smart for her age. I still don't understand WHY Hanna hated Suzette so much. I don't think Suzette did anything terrible. Sure, she isn't winning Mother of the Year anytime soon but she wasn't abusive or evil or mean? But Hanna does seem to have some mental illness issues and can't really see reality for what it is. She thinks Suzette is a witch and evil, etc.</div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;">I went down a path on reddit and Goodreads to see what others thought of the book. It seems to be truly divided. Some like this a lot...some hate it with a burning passion. It's very interesting, honestly, reading the reviews/thoughts. </div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;">This book was weird but good. I really enjoyed it but it does get dark in some spots so be aware of that. </div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;">Th ending? Mmmm. I have gone back and forth with my feelings on it. It wasn't as satisfying as I wanted it be. It was good, don't get me wrong, but I have so many questions. </div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;">All-in-all, this was a weird read, but I enjoyed it. I think it is a very good book for book club. I have SO many things to say that I couldn't here (avoiding all spoilers) and I have SO many questions for the girls when meet up. 4 stars from me.</div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;">One word summary: Weird</div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAukN4PBxNYUjdz-xgjagoG_IgzHslDg2ros22yjB2UcMswRo4tFm-ZLAyk81OZdEgms-jVqGpKvx6mweQEjCu0SLtqasACzc0utAlnfSUWz5AqxOZQCy4utwI72DrUdtadRuyJ_UdlVIaLzQGtVByb5XadKxnQHZaKsxSVz_DYjODe_zaQmlrJx0T0tpy/s213/4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="209" data-original-width="213" height="209" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAukN4PBxNYUjdz-xgjagoG_IgzHslDg2ros22yjB2UcMswRo4tFm-ZLAyk81OZdEgms-jVqGpKvx6mweQEjCu0SLtqasACzc0utAlnfSUWz5AqxOZQCy4utwI72DrUdtadRuyJ_UdlVIaLzQGtVByb5XadKxnQHZaKsxSVz_DYjODe_zaQmlrJx0T0tpy/s1600/4.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><br /><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; text-align: left;"><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><span face="" style="color: #181818;"><b>Challenge(s):</b></span></span></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: arial;">- Cloak and Dagger - #8</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: arial;">- Library Love #7</span></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: arial; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div></span></div>Carole Raehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08613257306239357553noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4128685765044647381.post-10082670206592235052024-03-11T14:30:00.000-04:002024-03-11T14:30:00.131-04:00Blodeuedd's Review: Tastes like Shakkar by Nisha Sharma<p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.imgur.com/gKxpkK1.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="500" height="229" src="https://i.imgur.com/gKxpkK1.jpg" width="229" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b>By: Nisha Sharma</b></span></span><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>Narrated by: Soneela Nankani, Fajer al.Kaisi</b></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>Series: If Shakespeare Were an Auntie, Book 2</b></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>Length: 9 hrs and 58 mins</b></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>Release date: 11-28-23</b></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>Publisher: HarperAudio</b></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>Contemporary romance/storytel.fi</b></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">So I listened to this cos my audio site told me that a certain narrator I like was narrating, well that was not the case. Hey, audible said the same now..weird. But I am glad I picked it anyway. Because I did like book 1.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">In this one we have Bobbi who is a wedding planner etc. She truly dislikes a certain Benjamin after he said all the wrong things at a certain time. She is not looking for love, she is just trying to put together the best wedding ever for her bestie.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Benjamin is not looking for love either. He is busy with his restaurant, and works too much.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">But this dang wedding keeps putting them together. Someone is also trying to sabotage the wedding.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">They were fun together. When they finally got over their hostility towards each other. But they have some stuff to work through.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">And the aunties are back! Gotta love the aunties.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Soneela is awesome, I always loves her narration. If it is romance, or fantasy, she is great at it. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The male narrator was new to me but he did well with his chapters.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;">Bobbi Kaur is determined to plan a celebration to remember for her best friend’s wedding. But she has two problems that are getting in her way:</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;">1. The egotistical, and irritatingly sexy, chef Benjamin “Bunty” Padda is supposed to help her with the menu since he’s the groom’s best friend, and</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;">2. Someone is trying to sabotage the wedding.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;">With aspirations of taking over her family’s event planning business, Bobbi knows that one misstep in managing the Kareena Mann and Prem Verma (#Vermann) party, along with the other weddings on her plate, will only give her uncle another reason not to promote her. That means Kareena’s big day and Bobbi's future career are on the line.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;">Bunty will do anything for his best friend, even though he has his hands full in finding a new location for his next restaurant while also playing mediator between his brother and father, the celebrated Naan King. When Prem asks Bunty to help with the wedding menu, he agrees, especially since it puts him in close proximity to the delicious Bobbi Kaur. When a mystery shaadi saboteur starts leaving threatening notes, and cancelling cake orders, Bunty and Bobbi have no choice but to call a truce and face the volatile attraction they have for each other.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;">Through masquerade fundraisers and a joint bachelor-bachelorette trip to Vegas, this chef and wedding planner explore their growing connection all while trying to plan a wedding at Messina Vineyards in a time crunch. But once the shaadi saboteur is caught and the wedding is over, will their love story have a happily ever after?</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;">With the return of the meddling aunties (who are scary good at finding information) and a lot of hilarity and hijinks, Bobbi and Bunty’s romance is an event you don’t want to miss.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p>Carole Raehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08613257306239357553noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4128685765044647381.post-11794930243991204632024-03-05T14:30:00.001-05:002024-03-05T14:30:00.136-05:00TMST: Three Words<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

Yes there is romance, but also so much more and with a focus on Anna falling into darkness.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Anna fell apart after a viral video and she feels like she cant play the violin anymore. Then her boyfriend says he wants an open relationship. Her shrink tells her she thinks Anna is on the spectrum. And she just goes all I will have a hook up and that will be it.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">But a hook up is not as easy as it sounds. Quan has his own demons after having had surgery. He is starting to fall for Anna and the hook up that never happens. Anna is torn between her failed relationship, her strained relationship with her family and this new budding feeling for Quan who is just so right.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">And there is like I said so much more. Anna´s depression, her feelings of having to say yes to everyone and everything. To sacrifice herself for family as something happens. She is falling to pieces and that is there it goes from contemporary romance to something else. Very deep and sad, and with some real issues.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I liked it a lot and I rooted for these two even in the darkest hours. Quan was lovely and I really wanted Anna to put herself first.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Great narration. I am not sure if I have listened to these two before, but they were both good. Each told their POVs well and I liked how it all worked together.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;">When violinist Anna Sun accidentally achieves career success with a viral YouTube video, she finds herself incapacitated and burned out from her attempts to replicate that moment. And when her longtime boyfriend announces he wants an open relationship before making a final commitment, a hurt and angry Anna decides that if he wants an open relationship, then she does, too. Translation: She's going to embark on a string of one-night stands. The more unacceptable the men, the better. </span></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;">That’s where tattooed, motorcycle-riding Quan Diep comes in. Their first attempt at a one-night stand fails, as does their second, and their third, because being with Quan is more than sex - he accepts Anna on an unconditional level that she has just started to understand herself. </span></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;">However, when tragedy strikes Anna’s family, she takes on a role that she is ill-suited for, until the burden of expectations threatens to destroy her. </span></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Anna and Quan have to fight for their chance at love, but to do that, they also have to fight for themselves.</span></span></p>Carole Raehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08613257306239357553noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4128685765044647381.post-4838266582831063882024-03-02T14:30:00.003-05:002024-03-11T12:04:53.655-04:00Audiobook Review: The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare<span style="font-family: arial;"><div style="text-align: right;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"></span></div></div></div></div></span><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: right;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1552950403i/40972652.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="648" data-original-width="379" height="320" src="https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1552950403i/40972652.jpg" width="187" /></a></div>Author: Tessa Dare</div><div>Narrator: Mary Jane Wells</div><div><div>Title: The Wallflower Wager</div><div>Series: Girl Meets Duke #3</div><div>Genre: Historical Romance</div><div>Format: Audiobook</div><div>Published: August 13, 2019</div><div>Where I got It: Borrowed from library</div></div></span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><i><br /></i></b></span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span><span face=""><b><i>Summary: <br /></i></b></span></span></span></span><div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>They call him the Duke of Ruin.</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b><br /></b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>To an undaunted wallflower, he's just the beast next door.</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b><br /></b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>Wealthy and ruthless, Gabriel Duke clawed his way from the lowliest slums to the pinnacle of high society—and now he wants to get even.</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b><br /></b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>Loyal and passionate, Lady Penelope Campion never met a lost or wounded creature she wouldn’t take into her home and her heart.</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b><br /></b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>When her imposing—and attractive—new neighbor demands she clear out the rescued animals, Penny sets him a challenge. Lady Penelope never met a lost or wounded creature she wouldn't take in and smother in love. Gabriel Duke has clawed his way from the bottom and he enjoys destroying those rich when he can. Penelope is tasked by her aunt and Gabriel to clear out and find homes for all of her animals. Gabriel promises to help. How hard can it be? </div><div><br /></div><div>This was adorable. Absolutely adorable. </div><div><br /></div><div>Penelope is a darling. It made me sad learning what happened to her when she was young!!!!! Sobs!</div><div><br /></div><div>Gabriel is all gruffy and angry, but all he needs is love and someone to be patient with him. He had a terrible and poor childhood. The coin thing...when he explained....broke my wee heart. </div><div><br /></div><div>So many animals!</div><div><br /></div><div>So many laughs!</div><div><br /></div><div>So many conversations!</div><div><br /></div><div>And so much love. I loved watching them go from neighbors...to partners....to friends with lust....then to lovers. They are perfect for each other. He is honest and down-to-earth. She has the heart the size of the world. </div><div><br /></div><div>There was little drama...just a spat and what was done was done out of love and misunderstanding. I'm glad it was a simple convo and that made me happy.</div><div><br /></div><div>The narrator was fantastic. I'm glad it was the same person. She is utterly perfect. I hope she does the last book!</div><div><br /></div><div>In the end, I really enjoyed this. I loved this couple and watching them fall in love. Another winner for Dare. 5 stars. </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCt_ueFsypR7WcwkFlsYePMxJLmGkglsXP8DZh56FGVqzvcGdts9dMLoUdVEs_hzi2uVYJjJjZW1enFfCdzLZGdUP9iN2la_VHBmnazn5STsXtApH0iAK-I5_kKFuDertAAZRsknlUaiwfiwYIfRIPsrphfoqx9dfBJ4qX0rSq4rxoV5spIn2CR8032gJF/s208/5%20stars.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="199" data-original-width="208" height="199" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCt_ueFsypR7WcwkFlsYePMxJLmGkglsXP8DZh56FGVqzvcGdts9dMLoUdVEs_hzi2uVYJjJjZW1enFfCdzLZGdUP9iN2la_VHBmnazn5STsXtApH0iAK-I5_kKFuDertAAZRsknlUaiwfiwYIfRIPsrphfoqx9dfBJ4qX0rSq4rxoV5spIn2CR8032gJF/s1600/5%20stars.png" width="208" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></span></div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><span face="" style="color: #181818;"><b>Challenge(s):</b></span><br />- Audiobook #12</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">- Library Love #8</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">- Romance Reading Challenge #8 (Audio) </span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div>Carole Raehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08613257306239357553noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4128685765044647381.post-69773404108459931672024-03-01T14:30:00.001-05:002024-03-01T14:30:00.311-05:00Best of February<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKeZlRMpGL807Jv3QVXw3B9akx8kSGxme79uAJcqrt0yu4xWsUk1ctC8BS7P0etQWABMfp-2qIfETjzxsOaLv4NIb9-NnNJer6UmCr3KyxqT0ivUEesjkpL3EA5GwaVi8GTpKZOlx_FIpRJ6QhxAljkQUW0npp2JjiBYwI9YgHDf-jYbTQ-Oh8-IicORpd/s2376/feb2024.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2376" data-original-width="2096" height="301" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKeZlRMpGL807Jv3QVXw3B9akx8kSGxme79uAJcqrt0yu4xWsUk1ctC8BS7P0etQWABMfp-2qIfETjzxsOaLv4NIb9-NnNJer6UmCr3KyxqT0ivUEesjkpL3EA5GwaVi8GTpKZOlx_FIpRJ6QhxAljkQUW0npp2JjiBYwI9YgHDf-jYbTQ-Oh8-IicORpd/w265-h301/feb2024.png" width="265" /></a></div></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;">Feb flew by! This would've been visually wonderful on the big screen. But 3 hours in a theater and not pausing? Oof. So maybe it's good I watched it at home with Hubby. </span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;">Here we watch the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer who was the father of the atomic bomb. We not only see his journey and his team's journey to taking a theory and making it a thing, but we also see the aftermath to his career. </span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;">Dang this had one heck of a cast. They spent ALL the money on this. Loads and loads of big names and they all did amazing. They played off each other well. Sometimes with so many big names it can feel like a battle on the screen. </span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;">What a controversial man even in his own time. He was interesting and I knew so little about him. I knew the basics....he led the Manhattan Project....that's all. It was interesting not only learning about him, but the majority of his whole team. I feel like the movie did a good job really getting to the heart of the people...especially Oppenheimer. He was complex. His emotions with what happened with his product was beautiful to watch. You could tell he had mixed feelings, but that last scene with Albert....broke my heart in a way. They don't victimize him or excuse what they all did, BUT it does make you look at the people themselves. It makes you question yourself too.....what would you have done in those desperate and scary times? </span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;">Honestly....this could've been two movies. There was so much more they could've really dived into. </span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;">The jumping around time could've used a more distinct indicator or something when switching around. You def have to pay attention. There was a time or two when I was momentarily confused, but I would catch my bearings and be okay. This is a film you HAVE to pay attention to. Lots of subtle things. </span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;">But yes. This is a film that everyone should watch. It does give us a look at humanity. Not just of the past....but of today. It makes you think. It makes you feel. It makes you question everything. I can see why this got the hype it did. It was really good. I do want to re-watch someday. I'll give this 4 stars. The time hopping could have been done slightly better. They did good, but I feel like there could've been a better indicator. </span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;">I'm starting something new in March for reviews....one word summaries...because I love trying new things with my reviews. </span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;">One Word Summary: INTENSE</span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJWM_hAT8SPII-tG35G6zVtKTSbx6G6R2Di-XZHBMccRt96VvnCezHim47erwF5TnpdYlEwU2F5CRA8c-lPB0om4qprYqNJC2uofGrgkL9_RQaFft-rFFIDXxZod-Rf7lNt8C0Ja4503s95Zby3hT-gvsqKUA4yFLWWohYaEh1nJnMBlxNoCwSFPHdTvNg/s213/4.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="209" data-original-width="213" height="209" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJWM_hAT8SPII-tG35G6zVtKTSbx6G6R2Di-XZHBMccRt96VvnCezHim47erwF5TnpdYlEwU2F5CRA8c-lPB0om4qprYqNJC2uofGrgkL9_RQaFft-rFFIDXxZod-Rf7lNt8C0Ja4503s95Zby3hT-gvsqKUA4yFLWWohYaEh1nJnMBlxNoCwSFPHdTvNg/s1600/4.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

I've read one by this author in the past....so I was curious to check out more so yayy for that. </div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;">Here we follow the Stillwater family. Marty is a famous author. He has a great family. What more could a fella ask for? At one point a terrifying incident makes Marty question his grip on reality. A stranger who looks scarily like Marty breaks into his house and accuses Marty of stealing his family and his life. The police are of no help so Marty and his family run for their lives. However, this stranger keeps finding them.</div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;">This was creepy....super creepy. I questioned what was going on at every corner. Even when I thought I knew what was happening something else would happen and I would question everything all over again. I had zero idea how everything was going to be resolved. I still question things now. So yessss a nice thriller and mystery. </div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;">I really enjoyed this but there was one part that made me really sad and I had to stop reading for a couple of days. Ugh. [TW and spoiler ]<span style="background-color: black;">The bad guy killed all their pets and the author did go into details about. I wish he would've just said, "And the animals were murdered too."....leave it like that. Poor things.</span> [End of spoiler]</div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;">All-in-all, this was intense to the 9th degree. I had no idea how everything was going to be resolved. The author is good for sure. One scene that was a bit much for me, but besides that I really liked it. Can't wait to discuss it at book club. I feel like there is a lot of stuff to talk about, but this review is hard because I don't to want to spoil a single thing. 4 stars from me. </div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV-VKUEOSAUF0tAAhfsXTK8gnBRlLUmMHQv2IK0caPSAe9iQahODv_3O-VxM5aCU9txtqCai6WxqAC30FR4UVHFSrjNPgk2V7K-iJZEVu3zMZxIs6QiPXNppTrHy8mMc2NuZwSc6OetI8CrS8Qteyg-k0TBBA073CyLw7coRp8Z0F6SC3D8Cd-v4-MU1hB/s213/4.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="209" data-original-width="213" height="209" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV-VKUEOSAUF0tAAhfsXTK8gnBRlLUmMHQv2IK0caPSAe9iQahODv_3O-VxM5aCU9txtqCai6WxqAC30FR4UVHFSrjNPgk2V7K-iJZEVu3zMZxIs6QiPXNppTrHy8mMc2NuZwSc6OetI8CrS8Qteyg-k0TBBA073CyLw7coRp8Z0F6SC3D8Cd-v4-MU1hB/s1600/4.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; text-align: left;"><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><span face="" style="color: #181818;"><b>Challenge(s):</b></span></span></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: arial;">- Cloak and Dagger - #7</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: arial;">- Library Love #6</span></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: arial; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div style="font-family: arial;"><br /></div></span></div>Carole Raehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08613257306239357553noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4128685765044647381.post-48513998475235566072024-02-27T14:30:00.004-05:002024-02-27T14:30:00.153-05:00Audiobook Review: The Governess Game by Tessa Dare<span style="font-family: arial;"><div style="text-align: right;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"></span></div></div></div></div></span><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: right;"><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1594593376i/36111620.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="475" data-original-width="309" height="320" src="https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1594593376i/36111620.jpg" width="208" /></a></div></div>Author: Tessa Dare</div><div>Narrator: Mary Jane Wells</div><div><div>Title: The Governess Game</div><div>Series: Girl Meets Duke #2</div><div>Genre: Historical Romance</div><div>Format: Audiobook</div><div>Published: August 28, 2018</div><div>Where I got It: Borrowed from library</div></div></span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><i><br /></i></b></span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span><span face=""><b><i>Summary: <br /></i></b></span></span></span></span><div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>He’s been a bad, bad rake—and it takes a governess to teach him a lesson</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b><br /></b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>The accidental governess.</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b><br /></b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>After her livelihood slips through her fingers, Alexandra Mountbatten takes on an impossible post: transforming a pair of wild orphans into proper young ladies. There is romance and some darkness, but there is comedy too. She did such a great job with balancing everything. </div><div><br /></div><div>I also love that you don't HAVE to read in order. She is nice, and does her best to survive. She is also a part of a organization trying to help since the island is going to hell. They got one of those evil mages, you know how it is. Drama, wickedness, revolution is coming...or not.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">We do not get that much of the world. Hitomis worldview is narrow, the city, best places to hide from soldiers, best places to hide from anyone. I would like to learn more though, cos there are other lands, the whole mage thing and so on. Oh and a map, I love those. But this was an audiobook after all.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">In the story some people needs protection . Things go badly. And a twist too that I did not expect.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">And then even more things happen and Hitomi does not have it easy at all.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">BUT, it does not end with a cliffie, the ending is one of those all good for now, but soon you are in trouble again. One of those look the sky is blue, we are happy, but oh oh, you missed those dark clouds at the horizon......I look forward to getting more from this story.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Good narration, but then I always enjoy her narrations. She has a great voice, and she is wonderful when it comes to fantasy. She really gets the characters and the overall feel of the story.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;">The winding streets and narrow alleys of Karolene hide many secrets, and Hitomi is one of them. Orphaned at a young age, Hitomi has learned to hide her magical aptitude and who her parents really were. Most of all, she must conceal her role in the Shadow League, an underground movement working to undermine the powerful and corrupt Arch Mage Wilhelm Blackflame.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;">When the League gets word that Blackflame intends to detain—and execute—a leading political family, Hitomi volunteers to help the family escape. But there are more secrets at play than Hitomi's, and much worse fates than execution. Betrayed and captured along with her charges, it will take everything Hitomi can summon to save them—and herself.</span></span></p>Carole Raehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08613257306239357553noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4128685765044647381.post-73887158527954528582024-02-21T14:30:00.002-05:002024-02-21T14:30:00.238-05:00Audiobook Review: The Girl Who Lied by Shannon Hollinger<span style="font-family: arial;"><div style="text-align: right;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"></span></div></div></div></div></span><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: right;"><a href="https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1692121536i/193661459.jpg" style="clear: left; display: inline; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="518" height="320" src="https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1692121536i/193661459.jpg" width="207" /></a></div>Author: Shannon Hollinger</div><div>Narrator: Amelia Sciandra</div><div><div>Title: The Girl Who Lied</div><div>Series: Chief Maggie Riley #1</div><div>Genre: Mystery, Thriller, Fiction</div><div>Format: Audiobook</div><div>Published: August 2, 2023</div><div>Where I got It: My shelf (Audible)</div></div></span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><i><br /></i></b></span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span><span face=""><b><i>Summary: <br /></i></b></span></span></span></span><div><div><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><b>Rain hammers the earth and a vicious wind rattles the trees. Strange...normally I get an email but I missed the boat so I wasn't able to download it. Since I was still strongly interested in this, I used my audible free credit to download it there. </div><div><br /></div><div>Here we follow Maggie who is the Chief of police in this small town. She wanted and needed to get away from her old life so this was the perfect town to slip away to. She has secrets and wants to keep them buried. Turns out she isn't the only one in this small town who has secrets. When Maggie discovers a dead body on the side of the road, she soon finds out there are more local suspects in this case than people she can completely rule out. And when Heather stumbles out of the woods during the discovery of the body and is traumatized, things get even more complex. </div><div><br /></div><div>This had a lot of twists and turns and a lot of players on the board. </div><div><br /></div><div>We have multiple POVs here. We follow Maggie for the majority of the time, but we also get to see Heather's, Murphy's, and Steve's POV. Lots of characters running amuck, but the author did a good job keeping it clean and easy to follow along. </div><div><br /></div><div>Dang...so many secrets. So many lies. I feel like this town would not be a fun and cute small town to live in. Everyone seems.......off. Creepy in some ways. Some are endearing like the lady that owns the motel but from what we have seen so far.....I don't trust any of them including our two big mains: Maggie and Steve. Don't get me wrong I do like those two, but they have a lot of secrets and have been lying to everyone....including each other. </div><div><br /></div><div>The ending wasn't shocking for me because that character was SUPER sus the whole time. I had my doubts of course, but yeah.............that was the only way that made any logical sense for me. Nice though with the red herrings and all the seeds of doubt. Nice try author ;) </div><div><br /></div><div>Sometimes the inner monologues seemed to drag on and on. </div><div><br /></div><div>I also thought some of the drama with Murphy was a little........much. </div><div><br /></div><div>The narrator was pleasant enough. Nice variations of voices. Her voice for Heather was a hair grating for me and she made her sound too young. Everyone else worked. </div><div><br /></div><div>All-in-all, I did like this in the end. Some nice twists and a creepy, small town with loads of secrets hidden everywhere. Pretty good narration. Some OTT parts, but overall an interesting ride with an intense ending. I'll stamp this with 3 stars. I would be interested in book 2!</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYG2xlOYrc2c9S4Dw5Gi4Ibh8gkzEOu_qXNtUk9mOhaIZwxMTyZmYeW0bjZE_YoQNEeQ5jXNbdKE0zK3YtahsBYeZhR8XIV1VEeuNfkb_ZSpgSaTPA46bH5qoPTxV2OssM3BwxU1uBn5SFibF5R0QGf34qsyf11UgAzxeFkRme48kDJmBscIRiswmpXZEr/s208/3%20stars.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="201" data-original-width="208" height="201" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYG2xlOYrc2c9S4Dw5Gi4Ibh8gkzEOu_qXNtUk9mOhaIZwxMTyZmYeW0bjZE_YoQNEeQ5jXNbdKE0zK3YtahsBYeZhR8XIV1VEeuNfkb_ZSpgSaTPA46bH5qoPTxV2OssM3BwxU1uBn5SFibF5R0QGf34qsyf11UgAzxeFkRme48kDJmBscIRiswmpXZEr/s1600/3%20stars.JPG" width="208" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></span></div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><span face="" style="color: #181818;"><b>Challenge(s):</b></span><br />- Audiobook #10</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">- Cloak and Dagger - #5</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div>Carole Raehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08613257306239357553noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4128685765044647381.post-51948660298544702412024-02-20T14:30:00.000-05:002024-02-20T14:30:00.153-05:00TMST: Candy????<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

I have loved the series and of course, I said yes to giving this a go even though it is steampunk-esque. I'm not crazy in love with that genre, but there are always exceptions. There have been books and games that I ended up loving because I took a chance. *fingers crossed*</div><div><br /></div><div>Here we follow our epic duo. Queen Freyja is kidnapped by the Hawk of the Ice and he is heading towards his alternative timeline with the royal navy and the vigilante Wurger Mendicant in pursuit. Little does the Hawk of the Ice know...this captive queen is no damsel. She is the Mendicant's partner and lover....the Winter Witch. </div><div><br /></div><div>Now, you can read this as a standalone, but I do encourage reading the others. I feel like it would flesh out these characters a bit more and make you appreciate everything they've gone through. BUT again, this would do perfectly fine as a standalone. The author gives you enough info to enjoy but doesn't info-dump. </div><div><br /></div><div>This was a super, duper slow start for me. It took me some to warm up to this story. Don't get me wrong I LOVE Freyja and her man, but it was slow-moving for me. Once things really started getting going for me (maybe about page 50) I flew by and didn't want to stop reading. Not sure why it took me a little bit to become invested, but once I was.... I was hooked. </div><div><br /></div><div>I love pirates and sea battles. So much fun. Scary but I have always been a sucker for pirates and the sea. With a sprinkle of steampunk, it just added another interesting layer. I'm so glad the steampunk element wasn't overbearing but it did add an extra flair.</div><div><br /></div><div>There were a lot of twists and turns here which kept it interesting. I had no idea what was going to happen or how anything was going to be resolved. </div><div><br /></div><div>The ending was intense but good!</div><div><br /></div><div>Overall, I did end up liking this even with my hesitations. The steampunk elements were NOT overbearing and it worked well. The beginning was a little slow for me, but at a certain point, I couldn't stop reading. You can read this alone well enough, but I strongly suggest the other books of the series. This wasn't my favorite of the series, but I still had a lot of fun with it. In the end, I'll stamp this with 3 stars. I can't wait for more!!! *cheers* </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSrObu8-SOaJzc8AkuxyRkZ8RDCvTeqf46sUOoGYeR5k9oCJ7F6cfnlzdO5A6YCcuNGmwIh8-ofBrCYk0mKE9E86QSUomTAu7d4Xnjfn1Et0-x9qjkocRMSCslBHXf2urmSGSNTRKKIqaj-KZoSv8thinFtDZZ09dWFgUZX5CoYmh9RsIktHjiDt3AXyZB/s208/3%20stars.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="201" data-original-width="208" height="201" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSrObu8-SOaJzc8AkuxyRkZ8RDCvTeqf46sUOoGYeR5k9oCJ7F6cfnlzdO5A6YCcuNGmwIh8-ofBrCYk0mKE9E86QSUomTAu7d4Xnjfn1Et0-x9qjkocRMSCslBHXf2urmSGSNTRKKIqaj-KZoSv8thinFtDZZ09dWFgUZX5CoYmh9RsIktHjiDt3AXyZB/s1600/3%20stars.JPG" width="208" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></span></div>Carole Raehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08613257306239357553noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4128685765044647381.post-26527068168650697462024-02-13T14:30:00.001-05:002024-02-13T14:30:00.148-05:00Book Review: Winter's Captive by Robin D Mahle & Elle Madison<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: arial;"><div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;" trbidi="on"><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></div></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1628210141i/58710133.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="533" height="320" src="https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1628210141i/58710133.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>Author: </span>Robin D. Sure it is better to watch in order, but you can totally get away with watching them out of order. I do suggest maybe watching #2 before this one, but it's fine. I’m glad we decided to give Murderbot another chance. I know there were a couple of meh ones. </span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">For me they were so hard to get, so I seemed to have given up. But I did audio now and caught up with book 6 so we could get to 7. And I do like Murderbot. Though to be honest I preferred the 6 novella over this one.</span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><span style="color: #2b00fe;">LOL I thought I had read 6 but certainly didn’t. I went back and had to re-read that too. Honestly….I feel the novellas are better. 6 was so much better. Don’t get me wrong…I did enjoy 7, but not as much as the last one. </span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Yes, i feel that Murderbot works better in smaller versions. Because there we get more Murderbot. I’m actually starting to like the human part of the gangs a lil bit BUT I do love seeing just Murderbot and ART. </span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">I do care more about the non-humans. And I’m sure they may feel justified because it will save a fellow human. I am worried. Hopefully, I’m wrong and they do care about Murderbot and ART………..</span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Nooo, do not say that. I just want Murderbot and ART to be happy and be useful forever. </span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">They def need to be happy. I could be fine with Murderbot solving crimes, oh like a TV show, lol. Murderbot does love shows. And around people who are not all judgey. Stupid humans. But then again who would not be afraid.</span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><span style="color: #2b00fe;">That would be cute!! Which I just love the fact he loves our entertainment. He’s so adorable. </span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">But the book itself then? I liked it, but I had a hard time focus for some reason this time.</span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><span style="color: #2b00fe;">It did take a long time and a lot of build up. The first half I struggled but things got better around the halfway mark. I loved the scene with Murderbot and the humans working together on that….project? Yes, we’ll say the project to avoid spoilers. It was a unique scene and way to handle things. </span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">I think that for me it would have been better to read this one, the novella worked well in audio, but this one, even if not long. My mind drifted somewhat. Sci.fi is hard in audio. Lots of tech talk.</span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><span style="color: #2b00fe;">TBH I might start reading more instead of audio. Don’t get me wrong…the narrator is great….but I think SciFi is easier to read. </span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Sci fi can be hard to read, but in audio it is worse. Yeah def reading next time. The voice of the narrator was so weird to hear too. Like not at all how I pictured Murderbot . </span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><span style="color: #2b00fe;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><span style="color: #2b00fe;">I’ve done some of the story with the narrator and he’s good, but not the Murderbot I hear in my head. </span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Sorry, but not my Murderbot. Nearly read the series out of order. I started #7 a couple of days ago and realized something wasn't right. Checked on GR and realized I missed #6. UGH. I put a pause on that and came here. Luckily this is a quickie. </div><div><br /></div><div>Murderbot is on the case after finding a dead body at the Preservation Station. Murderbot will need to figure out WHO the body is and why and who did it. That means our poor bot will need to speak to humans. Gross. </div><div><br /></div><div>Humans are gross. Only a few good ones, but like normal they totally suck. I only like Murderbot and ART. That is all. Everyone else can go away. </div><div><br /></div><div>But yes, this was fun. I really enjoyed it. I gobbled this up in just two sittings (damn sleep getting in my way *shakes fist*). Honestly? It has been a while since I can say I really and truly loved a book in this series. *looks back at the past* WOW. This might be my favorite of the series!!!! It's been a hot minute! We've had some good, some bad, and some...ugly. Ugh, thank goodness. I was about to toss the towel. This sparked some of my love for this series. Hopefully, the next one doesn't destroy it. </div><div><br /></div><div>But yes, it was a good mystery and I had zero idea. Yayy!</div><div><br /></div><div>I ended up doing the ebook version and it works just as good as the audio. You can't lose. </div><div><br /></div><div>All-in-all, I really enjoyed this one. It had a sprinkle of humor amongst the dark. #teamMurderbothumanssuck. I'll actually stamp this with a 5. </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrH1OXHlnz3AG-kpQA3Xp0_RH30Sy2eSbuN_SMRh24gbGUAyMUV0u3PICnrgH4GHeA2hPXC4ujXDdqwIzpr5esEnk6LNXsY4mSbCVLiu8ItP2y3V7F_ovl7cvqIUd96OkWn9iAsFpqsoNR6LMYgnuwQewsVTGT_KPwVxEW6L8PNuY9ULitBAoXFJTtqjEK/s208/5%20stars.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="199" data-original-width="208" height="199" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrH1OXHlnz3AG-kpQA3Xp0_RH30Sy2eSbuN_SMRh24gbGUAyMUV0u3PICnrgH4GHeA2hPXC4ujXDdqwIzpr5esEnk6LNXsY4mSbCVLiu8ItP2y3V7F_ovl7cvqIUd96OkWn9iAsFpqsoNR6LMYgnuwQewsVTGT_KPwVxEW6L8PNuY9ULitBAoXFJTtqjEK/s1600/5%20stars.png" width="208" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; text-align: left;"><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><span face="" style="color: #181818;"><b>Challenge(s):</b></span></span></div></div><div style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: arial;">- Library Love #4</span></div><div style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: arial;">- Cloak and Dagger - #4 (Mystery/Murder Mystery)</span></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div><br /></div></span></div>Carole Raehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08613257306239357553noreply@blogger.com5
