Movie of the Week & Follow Friday

I guess you can say this is a 2-in-1 post! Woot woot! I'll be announcing the next movie of the week and joining in on 'Follow Friday'. First, I'll announce the next movie of the week....which is.....

'Love Actually', here's a trailer:

~*~

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee’s View and Alison at Alison Can Read. If you want to participate, it's easy. To learn more and enter, check out: Parajunkee andAlison Can Read. Join the fun and make some new friends!

I decided to try something new today. ^.^ Just like many others they feature a question and this weeks question is....

"What book that hasn't been turned into a movie (yet) would you most like to see make it to the big screen, and who would you like cast as your favorite character?"

My Answer:

Oooooh man...I can't pick just one! Can I do a couple? I would defiantly like to see 'The Snow Fox' by Susan Fromberg Schaeffer  turned into a movie. I would cast Nicky Lee to play  Matsuhito. I know he's not Japanese, but I envision him as Matsuhito nonetheless. He also looks great in uniform (he played in 'Mulan'), so I know he would do justice to the lovable Matsuhito.

I would also love to see 'Lord of Ice' by Gaelen Foley turned into a movie. I would cast Kellan Lutz as the Lord Damien Knight. Not only does Kellan Lutz look like him in my head, I think he would do a good job playing both him and his twin brother. However, he would have to keep his hair dark brown, not his normal blonde.

PS: Sorry about the lack of posts this week...college and work and stress is kicking my butt. Blogging releases stress, so maybe I should remember this and post something, ANYTHING to get rid of my stress. Between Wednesday and Thursday I had stayed up 35 hours straight, because all those things wouldn't allow me to sleep. Thank you for being there and allowing me to blog for free, blogger.com and for my followers from ACTUALLY reading my random posts. ^.^

Music Monday

Happy Monday everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was...uneventful and nerve-racking. I always get extremely anxious and nervous before school starts and tomorrow my classes begin. *shudders* Well, maybe the music will soothe my nerves:

This is a little music video about my favorite show of ALL time 'LOST'. The song is Airplanes by BOB and the music video created by dimitrisfl. (If you never seen the show you should check it out! It will boggle your mind! Don't worry there are only slight spoilers in this 55 second video, but you won't even notice them as spoiler if you haven't seen the show ^.^)

This song has been running in my head a lot. Plus I can see Toru playing this while he lays on the couch reading and I feel like it would be on the soundtrack if it were to become a movie. It's Just a Dream by Nelly.

At 8pm, I'm going to watch the primere of 'Terra Nova' it starts at 8 pm , my time. Since 'LOST' ended a while back I've been a little lost without my show. I need a new show to get addicted to. Could this be my new addiction? We shall see! Here's a trailer!

QUESTION TIME (feel free to participate!)

Q: What song do you secretly like and listen to when no one is around?
A: That award would have to go to Pieces of Me by Ashlee Simpson

Sunday Ketchup

~'Sunday Ketchup' was inspired by The Muse in the Fog's 'Suddenly Sunday' postings. However, mine are going to be a little bit different. Also when I went to spell 'Catchup' I accidentally spelled it wrong and put 'Ketchup'. I thought it was cute, so I kept it. Also, I'm addicted to ketchup! I want one of those ketchup shirts that says "I <3 Ketchup". Wouldn't that be cute? Every week, or whenever I remember, I'm going to post events that happened this past week, things coming up next week, updates, and news. You can join in and post your own 'Sunday Ketchup' postings, just make sure to mention me...if you want ^.^ ~

Happy Sunday everyone! The week is nearly done, which means my classes are starting soon! Oh no! That means my free time is going to be cut slightly. I actually can't wait, but I'm nervous because my financial aid hasn't gone through yet. Also, it's my second year of college and for some reason that thought is putting butterflies in my stomach. Why? I have no idea...well, my week was okay. I spent a lot of time with family and a little bit of time with friends, but it mostly uneventful. How was your week?

Today In History

On this day, September 23, in 1875 Billy the Kid was arrested for the first time! Here's an article about Billy the Kid from History.com:

"On this day in 1875, Billy the Kid is arrested for the first time after stealing a basket of laundry. He later broke out of jail and roamed the American West, eventually earning a reputation as an outlaw and murderer and a rap sheet that allegedly included 21 murders.
The exact details of Billy the Kid's birth are unknown, other than his name, William Henry McCarty. He was probably born sometime between 1859 and 1861, in Indiana or New York. As a child, he had no relationship with his father and moved around with his family, living in Indiana, KansasColorado and Silver City, New Mexico. His mother died in 1874 and Billy the Kid—who went by a variety of names throughout his life, including Kid Antrim and William Bonney—turned to crime soon afterward.
McCarty did a stint as a horse thief in Arizona before returning to New Mexico, where he hooked up with a gang of gunslingers and cattle rustlers involved in the notorious Lincoln County War between rival rancher and merchant factions in Lincoln County in 1878. Afterward, Billy the Kid, who had a slender build, prominent crooked front teeth and a love of singing, went on the lam and continued his outlaw's life, stealing cattle and horses, gambling and killing people. His crimes earned him a bounty on his head and he was eventually captured and indicted for killing a sheriff during the Lincoln County War. Billy the Kid was sentenced to hang for his crime; however, a short time later, he managed another jail break, murdering two deputies in the process. Billy the Kid's freedom was brief, as Sheriff Pat Garrett caught up with the desperado at Fort Sumner, New Mexico, on July 14, 1881, and fatally shot him.
Although his life was short, Billy the Kid's legend grew following his death. Today he is a famous symbol of the Old West, along with such men as Kit Carson, Jesse James, Wild Bill Hickok, Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp, and his story has been mythologized and romanticized in numerous films, books, TV shows and songs. Each year, tourists visit the town of Fort Sumner, located about 160 miles southeast of Albuquerque, to see the Billy the Kid Museum and gravesite."
Other memorable events:
-John Paul Jones wins in English waters, 1779, American Revolution
-Hurricane Jeanne hits Haiti, 2004
-Lewis and Clark return from their adventures, 1806
-Eighth planet is discovered, 1846
-Controversial call gives the Chicago Cubs the pennant, 1908
-South Vietnam executed three VC agents,  1965
-German pilot Werner Voss was shot down over Western Front, 1917 (WWI)
-Mussolini re-establishes a fascist regime in northern Italy, 1943 (WWII)

I hope you enjoyed this random post about 'Today in History'. Just picking a random day to search from past events will surprise you! I didn't know all these events had happened on September 23. ^.^ I promise to post more of these in the future.

Book Review: Queen By Right

Author: Anne Easter Smith
Title: Queen By Right
Genre: Historical Fiction, Romance,
Pages: 494
First Published: 2011
Where I Got It: My Shelf (I won it!)

"In Cecily Neville, duchess of York and ancestor of every English monarch to the present day, she has found her most engrossing character yet.History remembers Cecily of York standing on the steps of the Market Cross at Ludlow, facing an attacking army while holding the hands of her two young sons. Queen by Right reveals how she came to step into her destiny, beginning with her marriage to Richard, duke of York, whom she meets when she is nine and he is thirteen. Raised together in her father’s household, they become a true love match and together face personal tragedies, pivotal events of history, and deadly political intrigue. All of England knows that Richard has a clear claim to the throne, and when King Henry VI becomes unfit to rule, Cecily must put aside her hopes and fears and help her husband decide what is right for their family and their country. Queen by Right marks Anne Easter Smith’s greatest achievement, a book that every fan of sweeping, exquisitely detailed historical fiction will devour."

This is first book I've read by Anne Easter Smith and concerning the York side of the War of the Roses. Well, to be technical, this book mostly covers events before the bloody War of the Roses and it lightly touches the Civil War England was forced to endure. I was blessed to have won this novel, so I didn't have to buy it with my own money and I'm glad Lady Luck blessed me with this, because I simply adore this book.

I found it intriguing to see Cecily Neville's view of the world. Too be honest I didn't know much about her or her family, so this was an eye-opening experience. I loved how Anne Easter Smith sucked me into the story and showed me this world rather than just telling me. Even though it took me a while to finish reading this, it wasn't because it was huge or I didn't want to read it. It was because this book is like a fine wine. You can't drink it all at once, you have to savor and enjoy every little bit. I will admit, however, I didn't start savoring the book until Part 2, but once that was read and done I could barely put the book down.

I really like Cecily Neville, because she was a strong-willed and opinionated lady. Even though you might be a Lancastrian sympathizer, you can't help but like the Duchess of York. Even Queen Margaret of Anjou really adored Cecily, because she's just one of those people, I guess. Anne Easter Smith made it really hard to pick sides; she showed everyone with strengths and weaknesses. No one side was completely right or completely wrong. I really loved that aspect of the book, because I do tire of books trying to make you pick a side. Anne Easter Smith mostly focused on Cecily and Richards love story and I really cherished that love story. Unlike a lot of couples back in that time, they had true love and pretty much married for love and friendship.

It was really also interested to see Richard before he became an overly ambitious man. Richard seemed really level-headed and lived for his family...at the beginning, but near the end he became just like his father: he put his ambitions before his own family. The way Anne Easter Smith showed this change was fantastic! At first, Cecily had a small taste for ambition, while Richard just wanted to be respected and be nothing like his "treasonous" father, but after a time Richard did become like his father and Cecily's small amount of ambition turned into sand.

All-in-all, I loved this book! The only thing that I didn't like was how slowly paced Part 1. Other than that, I couldn't get enough of Anne Easter Smith's writing. I will be defiantly checking out her other books ^.^. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves history, a good love story, or just a fantastic book. Out of five stars I grant this one 5 stars.

Favorite Character(s): Cecily Neville
Not-so Favorite Character(s): Margaret of Anjou, Somerset, and the ambitious Richard, Duke of York.
Favorite Quote(s): The poem at the beginning of the Epilogue:
"What can I do? It's not surprising that I
Weep and sigh, with my dear lover dead.
For when I look deeply into my heart and
see how sweetly and without hardship I
loved from my childhood and first youth
with him, I am assailed by such great
pain that I will always weep for his death."

Movie Review: Red Riding Hood

Length: 100 mins
Released: 2011 (USA)
Genre: Fantasy
Rating: PG-13, violence and creature terror and some sensuality
Directed By: Catherine Hardwicke
Where I Got It: The Redbox with Sarah

Red Riding Hood is loosely based of the folktale of 'Little Red Riding Hood' and the Grimm Brothers 'Little Redcap'. Instead of the little girl we are so use to, the story follows the story of Valerie (who is all grown up) and her village that is being haunted by a Werewolf. Not only is the village being haunted by this mysterious Werewolf, but its also being haunted by a love-triangle. Valerie is in love with Mr. Mysterious, aka Peter, but she is engaged to the baby-faced Henry. However, Valerie's sister is in love with Henry, so I guess this is a love-square. I don't know. However, the story picks up after Valerie's sister is killed by the Werewolf. This murder brings up the question....who's the werewolf?

There are a lot of familiar faces starring in this film, but there are a lot of faces I don't recall. Amanda Seyfried (Dear John, Mama Mia!) plays the very grown-up Valerie the Red Riding Hood, Billy Burke (Twilight Movies, Ladder 49) as Papa Red Riding Hood, Gary Oldman (Harry Potter, Dracula, Hannibal) as the cold-hearted Father Soloman, Max Irons (Being Julia, Dorian Gray) as the baby-faced Henry, Shiloh Fernandez (16 to Life, Dead Girl) as the "Sexy" Peter, and Julie Christie (Hamlet, Troy, Harry Potter) as the not-so helpless Grandma.

REVIEW:
This movie was directed by Catherine Hardwicke. For some reason, I'm not a Catherine Hardwicke fan....it's hard to explain. I couldn't stand how she showed 'Twilight' on the big-screen. Even with the knowledge of her directing this movie, I couldn't help but watch this. I tried my hardest to go into the movie empty-minded and without judgement...which is hard.

Well, to put it simply....it was okay. I'm so glad I did finally get my chance to watch this (Sarah rented the movie and forced me to sit still and watch). At first I wasn't much into it, when I found out there was a this huge love-triangle. E-gag. I felt like I was watching 'Twilight' but in the middle ages during a werewolf haunting. I'll admit that I texted a lot while watching this. However, as the story-line picked up a little more I became more involved. The 'Twilight'-feel was pretty much gone once Father Soloman appeared. If I could I would hug him and kiss him.

I adored the costumes and the props and some of the acting was good. Some was, well, lacking. It's probably not their fault, because the writing was highly flawed and needed some editing. The actor can be only as good as the script that is handed to him/her. I also hated the ending, because it was predictable and rather dumb. I wanted to slap Valerie (Red Riding Hood) and Catherine Hardwicke.

All-in-all, I adored a lot of things, but there are a lot of negatives about this movie. Mostly Catherine Hardwicke and her over using the love-triangle theme. They didn't focus enough on Red Riding Hood, Grandma, and the Wolf. I felt like I was watching a parody of the original mixed with 'Twilight' (which I do love, but c'mon). The fell a little flat in my expectations, but it was decent. I do recommend this to those who love folktale remakes and 'Twilight' super-fans. Out of five stars, I must give this movie only 2*s. Sorry. =(

Favorite Character(s): Henry and Peter (I think I would pick Henry...mhmm.) and Grandma
Not-so Favorite Character(s): Suzzette and Father Auguste

Music Monday

This is going to a be short 'Music Monday', because the rain outside was making my internet be a rebel. Finally, my internet is done having a psychotic episode, so I can post this before work. Happy Monday everyone! Let's begin, shall we?

First, this song has been running through my head throughout 'Queen By Right'. Why? Well, Richard keeps going off and playing in the world of politics while Cecily is home waiting for him. As we all know, Richard is killed fighting for his right and the story flashbacks to Cecily mourning the loss of him and her beloved son. This song, in my opinion, fits her feelings. Also, I can see Richard humming this while he's away from his true love. The song is Here Without You by the fantastic 3 Doors Down:

Now for the funny video. This is a spoof on the new movie 'Contagion' by JustinJamesHughes. Enjoy:

~*~

QUESTION TIME! Feel free to answer them or ask questions which I may put on the next 'Music Monday':

Q: What song do you find yourself singing while you are working?
A: Sadly, I sing either Disturbia by Rihanna and other odd songs I don't even really listen to ^.^

Q: If you could pick one musical to play a part in, what would you pick and who would you play?
A: Just one? *sighs* It's hard to JUST pick one. Mmmmhmmm, perhaps 'Moulin Rouge' and as Satin. Why? Because I love her singing parts and I love Ewan McGregor.

I hope the rest of your Monday is fantastic!

Sunday Ketchup

Happy Sunday everyone! How was your week? I must apologize because I really slacked this week about posting stuff. I could lie and say I was SO busy I just had no time to type up posts, but that would be a lie. I WAS slightly busy, but I was also lazy and I slept a lot. I think I may have been sick, but I'm not sure. All I do know is that I sat on my butt and watched TV or read or slept.

Except for Saturday. I got up at 7 am and went to the Michigan Renaissance Festival with my friend, Sam, and her boyfriend. We all dressed up and spent the day there. I also spent a lot of money, but hey, I don't regret it (yet). I lost my camera, so I have no proof of being there, but I believe Sam took some picture, so I'll try and upload them.

Anyways....

What Came in the Mail/Store?:
'To Die For' by Sandra Byrd came in the mail! I won this from the giveaway Lizzy from Historically Obsessed was hosting. It came pretty quick! ^.^ I can't wait to read it!

What's Going to be Posted In the Upcoming Week?:
Mhmmm, I'm going to try and get 'Queen By Right' done during the early week and I'm going to post the review for that and for 'Red Riding Hood'. Look for those and other than that...I have no clue.

Anything New For the Blog?:
The other day I actually took the time to make buttons that sponsor my blog. Go ahead and check them out and feel free to post it on your blog. It took me a while to figure out how to make them. As you can probably see I moved things around too, but for some reason some of the things are having issues loading. I'm going to try and figure all that out as soon as I can. Look forward to slight changes in appearances, but other than that nothing major is going on.

Tim Horton News:
I should be going to afternoons in a couple of weeks. The new kid is training, so I'm super happy! I can't wait to be off the Zombie Shift.

Anything Else?:
Schools creeping around the corner, so that'll be fun. -.-

That's about it! Are you having trouble with your blog? Have a great week you guys! Don't worry...I'm going to try and not be a lazy kid this week. Oh! Nearly forgot...I'll be posting the winner of my Giveaway later today or tomorrow morning.

Boost My Blog Friday

#ff63e0

Since I had no motivation to write/see my review for 'Red Riding Hood' yesterday, because I was watching 'Megamind' with my Dad, I'm going to participate in 'Boost My Blog Friday' hosted by Designitchic today. Perhaps later on today I'll post review. Yes, I'm a lazy kid sometimes. ^.^

This week's question is:

"Do you hang your clothes on hangers or fold them?"

~Too be honest...neither. The only pieces of clothing I'm nice to is my Fox hoodie and my fancy outfits (ie. dresses, dress pants, expanse clothing, etc). Other than that I shove them into my dressers or "accidently" forget and they end up on the floor. I seriously need a maid to keep my room and car cleaned.

What about you? Are you a messy kid or are you a clean-aholic? Do you fold your clothes nicely, hang them up, or just let your clothes have freedom?

PS:
I've been very scattered brain about my to-read list and I'm a little bored (for say). I was wondering if anyone knows any really fun reading challenges out in there in the world I should give a shot-at? Eh? Ideas?

Music Monday

Happy Monday everyone! Today has been slightly irritating for me, at least. I had to work Sunday night and I got out a little after 5 am, but I had to go home, change, and head down to my college to work out my Financial Aid. Why must these things be so complicated? *sighs* Oh well. How has your Monday been so far?

This first video is a song that reminds me of the love between Cecily and Richard from 'Queen By Right'. They pretty much grew up together and were allowed to grow to love each other before they married. It's very cute and romantic. I also love the song and the singer singing it. It's called 'Right Here Waiting For You' sung by the fantastic Nicky Lee:

Next is a song that is stuck in my head! I hum it and sing while I clean the floor at work. It's 'Moves Like Jagger' by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera:

In Honor of 9/11 and my love for football here is a spine-tingling rendition of the National Anthem by Jim Cornelison.

As always, here's a funny video to lighten the mood...this is 'How Lost Should Have Ended' by HISHEdotcom. This is my favorite show, by the way:

~*~

Now its time for....QUESTION TIME! (Feel free to answer them too.)

1) If you could be a singer, would you rather go solo or be in a band?
A: I would probably want to be in a band, because I wouldn't be good enough to sing a whole song by myself. Haha.

2) What is your ultimate favorite song that you'll never get tired of?
A: Mine would have to be 'Mr Brightside' by The Killers. I'll probably be 100 years old and still rock out to this song.

PS: Make sure to join in for the Book Giveaway I'm hosting by clicking THIS!

9/11: Never Forget

Wow, it's been 10 years since 9/11 happened. I was startled by this fact today. I was almost 10 years old when the my country was attacked and thousands of people lost their lives, because of hatred. I still tear up and cry a little when I see footage of the attack and 9/11 stories. I can't help it, because this event changed my perception of the world. Before than I didn't know such hatred and evil existed in the world, but then I seen with my own eyes what hatred could do. Hatred made 19 people kill innocent people. It was a tough lesson to learn. I still remember that day vividly and I can even remember my thoughts that ran through my head. I remember asking my dad, "How could they hurt all those people Daddy?" He had no answer for me, he just kept driving.

This day is a day of remembrance. My heart goes to those who lost their lives and to their families. I can't even imagine what they are going through every day and every year. Always remember 9/11.

Book Review: My Irresistible Earl

Author: Gaelen Foley
Title: My Irresistible Earl (Inferno Club #3)
Genre: Historical Romance, Spy Thriller, Adventure
Pages: 400
First Published: 2011
Where I Got It: Library

"The Inferno Club: In public, this scandalous society of London aristocrats is notorious for pursuing all manner of debauchery. But in private, they are warriors who would do anything to protect king and country . . .

Once, she had vowed to marry the Earl of Falconridge. Now, she vows to forget him. After he abandoned her for a life shrouded in secrets, Mara, Lady Pierson, has succeeded in keeping him away, until he appears in London unexpectedly, making her fall in love all over again.

Forced back into Mara's life by duty, the earl quickly stays for love. He has never forgotten this passionate beauty and never meant to break her heart. But their newfound happiness is endangered—because the Inferno Club demands much of its members, and his vital mission is exposing a deadly plot that could threaten their very lives . . ."

This is 3rd novel in Gaelen Foley's Inferno Club series. Unlike the other two, I don't really think you can read this as a stand-alone, because she doesn't go into much description of WHAT the Inferno Club really is and the history of this "club". She touches lightly on this in this book, so I advice for you to read one of the others first. That's just my opinion though.

I really liked this book. Gaelen Foley did a great job by giving the readers of this series something different , because unlike the other characters these two lovers had a past history. They had been in love and they had been separated by Jordan having to go be spy and whatnot for his country. In this book, Gaelen Foley shows that sometimes your first love IS your true love and I loved this! I really adored the flashbacks that they had of each other, I found this to prove they were meant to be together. I also loved how Gaelen Foley made the characters full of realistic flaws. I found myself really rooting for them to get over themselves and become one again.

Some say the story was a little jumpy and had a lot of subplots and I do agree, slightly. There were a lot of subplots that took away from the Jordan-Mara love story, but that happens. I did get annoyed a lot by the sudden story shift to Albert or Drake, who I adore. Perhaps she put more subplots in this book, because we all knew that Jordan and Mara would end up together. I think the jumpiness was the only thing I didn't like about this.

Like I've previously stated, I can't get enough of Gaelen Foley's books. I love the characters and stories she presents. I'm highly addicted to her books and I'm dying for the next on to come out, which isn't coming out until January or December (ugh)!

Well, Gaelen Foley has yet again struck with a fantastic book. If you haven't picked up any of her books, you should! Especially this Inferno Club series, which is turning out to be a great one. Out of five stars, I grant this one 5 stars. Huzzah!

Favorite Character(s): Drake, Jordan, and Mara
Not-so Favorite Character(s): Dresden Bloodwell and Albert
Quote That Has Stayed With Me: Pg. 376, Chapter 21, "Flawed she was, oh yes, but her imperfections only made her more lovable to him. They meant she needed him, and Jordan had always been someone who longed to be needed."

A Late Music Monday

Yet again I prove how forgetful I am. I forgot that yesterday was 'Music Monday' so I sat around doing laundry and watching the 'How I Meet Your Mother' marathon until work. I'm sorry! I'm a little forgetful sometimes -.- Anyways....happy late Monday everyone! I hope your weekends were fun and enjoyable. Summer is drawing to a close and my favorite season, Fall, is around the corner. I can't wait! Monday morning was the first chilly morning of the season, so I actually had to put on a hoodie. Shall we begin with the music?

~As promised, I'm introducing my favorite song of the moment. It's not new, I have loved this song and will always love this song. Even though I don't understand half of the lyrics because they are in Chinese, I still adore it! Nicky Lee is one of my favorite singers from abroad (even though he's an American). He's such a great singer and he's a great actor too! He played in 'Mulan'. Not the cartoon version, but a movie actually about the real Mulan. Well, the song (of course) is called 'No More Crying':

~In honor of my recent movie review, I've decided to pick my favorite music video ABOUT the movie that I can't get enough of. The song is "Never Too Late" by Three Days Grace, which oddly fits the movie. The video was created by Meanpooh.

This song runs in my while I read 'My Irresistible Earl' by Gaelen Foley. Not the original, but this remake by Boyce Avenue because it's a duet featuring Tiffany Alvord. It's 'She Will Be Loved' the original by my beloved Maroon 5.

Now it's time for some humor! ^.^ Well, it's a mix of funny and news. I love his "news" show, he's a funny dude. His name is Phil DeFranco and click here to go to his YouTube page. This week's video is labeled 'U Mad Bro?!'

QUESTION TIME!

Now it's time for Question time! What's Question Time? Well, it's a new feature I'm adding to 'Music Mondays' that will allow me to answer a couple questions relating to music each week.. This allows me to be more random and ramble on and on! Haha! Feel free to share you're own answers to these questions. Feel free to ask questions too! Shall we begin?

Q: If you could pick one song to be your intro song when you enter a room, what would it be?
A: Ooooh, let's see...I would probably have to pick 'Invincible' sung by Ok Go.

Q: What's you're favorite musical/play?
A: That's another toughie! It's a tie between 'Moulin Rouge' and 'Oklahoma!'. Two completely different musicals, but I love them dearly.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this week's selection of videos. I'll try next week to post the post on time and not the next day.
