Tell Me Something Tuesday + Meet Ralph

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post on Rainy Day Ramblings where Rainy discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging. Weigh in and join the conversation by adding your thoughts in the comments. If you want to do your own post, grab the question and answer it on your blog.

Do you prefer series or stand alone?

Ooooooooooooooooooooo! A tough one. Ummmmm.....I will have to say stand alone books. I like both, don't get me wrong, but thinking about the books I read there are very few series I follow through on. Not that I didn't like the book, but sometimes one or two are enough for me unless I am in love with it.

Stand alones have their curses too with me, but I do like getting the full story and having a conclusive ending. There are books that I think need a series or would benefit from having more. Those happen here and there.

I always say I want to read and stick with more series, but there are not a lot of series (that I haven't already finished) that I stay interested in enough. I really need to get back into the Anita Blake series.

So yes - if I had to pick which one I prefer. I lean a little more towards stand alone books.

~*~*~*~*~

Soooooo everyone. BF and I got a new baby on Thursday. I've been sooooo busy this week getting so that is why I didn't post much. (Also work has been insane on top of everything). Say hello to our new family member.....RALPH!

He is about 13 weeks old or so. We found him at the local shelter in need of a good home. The best guess they have for him is a rat terrier mix with a touch of black lab. He is a super baby. It has been YEARS since I have had to deal with puppy-hood. Oh my. He is a handful, but he is a darling and good boy.

Mamyia is slowly accepting the fact that she is a middle child now. She has to share BF and me which has been a "fun" balance. Ralph just wants to play with her and she is not having it yet. Give it time. Her natural playful attitude will return.

Rei and Toki, our chinchillas, could not care any less. As long as they get what they want and need his presence means nothing. He doesn't go up to their cage, so I don't think he is aware of them yet.

Merry Holidays and Happy Christmas!

Merry Holidays everyone from here in Michigan! Rei, Toki, and Mamyia have had a long day of being spoiled! Bloody hard to get decent photos of them. But they finally submitted to my will. LOL! Also, scroll down for some excellent news in the life of Carole Rae! Yes, nothing crazy and I normally avoid personal posts, but its been an exciting month or so!

And yes! I do have exciting news as well. First, I have finally graduated from college!! It took 6 damn years to get this degree. I am besides myself with joy! My diploma for my bachelor's will be here sometime in January! Pictures will for sure pop up! I'm still waiting on details of me walking in a gap and gown.

Also, my longtime boyfriend nearly popped the question...he gave me a promise ring. Yes, yes, not as exciting, but alas it is a promise that once things settle down for us and we are ready we will get engaged and then someday married. So exciting!!! Yes, yes I am hearing the eye-rolling about how lame Promise Rings are. However, it is a huge step for us! Especially for him since he was so anti-marriage for the longest time. Plus its jewelry and what girl doesn't love a physical reminder of their love with someone? hehe. Oh and yes, my nails are totally awesome. ;) Thanks in advance! #inthechristmasspiritthisyear It is hard to tell in the photo, but the ring is a lily (my second favorite flower) with a pearl on the inside. My mom helped boyfriend pick it out. LOL!

Happy Holidays everyone! Much love from here in the States. <3

ROADTRIP!

Hey all! I have FANTASTIC news! If you haven't heard or seen on Facebook yet, I am just letting you know I will be on a work roadtrip! I will be in Ohio for 5 days working. :3 I work at a little marketing and promotion firm that helps little businesses promote/sell their products. I've been doing pierogies and I've rocked it! Three of us were chosen to go and do this roadtrip and promote the pierogies in Toledo, Ohio. Too bad we drive seperate tho. Boo.

I am super, duper excited! I leave tonight. I will have my computer (I hope the hotel we are at has wifi....they should, right?) and regular posting will continue! I do have some of the important stuff scheduled JUST in case I do not have wifi or time to play around. It's like a vacation...but I will be working....and I get paid...hmmmm

Wish me luck everyone! ^.^

New Look & Updates

Hi all! I will be doing some construction today and if I don't get done today, I will be working on this tomorrow as well. Why? Well....I am bored and feeling an early spell of Spring Cleaning (could that be a sign of spring?). Regular posting and promised posts will commence on schedule, so worry not! I just have nothing really today to post.

I am trying to get all updated and all techie, so things will be trial and error. hahaha. ^.^

As you can tell the background and some of the pages have been changed!! Next we are working on the banner. :D

GOOD NEWS!

I FINALLY HAVE MY INTERNET! No more going to work early or to the library just to access wifi. YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

It's been nearly a month since we moved and haven't had internet. Comcast may have fast internet, but their customer service has some MAJOR improvement they need to work on. Seriously. No communication. We had 6 visits from technicans who came out before anything was done. Each time they came, "Oh it looks like there is no cable running to your apartment. Well, there is nothing I can do. We'll have to send out a contractor."

WE'VE BEEN TELLING YOU THAT SINCE DAY ONE!!!!!! GRRRRRR!

At least it is done with now and we are all good. Regular posting shall commence. ^.^ Thank you all for being so patient with me.

It feels like magic to have it back! Even though it was a struggle to deal with THOSE idiots, we managed and now we have internet. I guess Rumple was right....

I'm Back!

I AM BAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCK!

Done with classes and exams for the semester. YIPEE! I will also be taking winter off...I may take off Spring (we shall see then). However, I will probably going on a book binge. hahaha. I haven't been able to truly read for pleasure the last couple of weeks due to crunch-time. Sighs. Such is the curse of school. I have a couple reviews lined up for you guys! Thanks for being so patient with me. ^.^ *hugs*

Happy September & 'A Song of Autumn'

Happy September! I know I'm a little late on posting this little post, but I just wanted to extend this happy occurrence. I simply LOVE fall. It's my favorite season and September is the beginning of it. Yesterday night I felt the first crispness of fall in the air. It was nice. However, I hate winter, so my happiness will dissolve sooner or later once winter comes.

On another matter...I failed on my Summer reading list...but oh well. I just got caught up in reading other books, which a lot of them took first priority. However, I've been itching at creating a side section on the blog on books to expect for the next couple of months. The problem with that...is that I'm sometimes books I pick to read are sporadic and random. It all depends on what I'm in the mood to read. Since I've been doing a lot of reading for authors/publishers, I think I may do something like that. Not sure. Any advice?

Anyways....
Here's a poem about fall that I adore:

A Song of Autumn
by: Adam Lindsay Gordon

‘WHERE shall we go for our garlands glad
At the falling of the year,
When the burnt-up banks are yellow and sad,
When the boughs are yellow and sere?
Where are the old ones that once we had,
And when are the new ones near?
What shall we do for our garlands glad
At the falling of the year?’
‘Child! can I tell where the garlands go?
Can I say where the lost leaves veer
On the brown-burnt banks, when the wild winds blow,
When they drift through the dead-wood drear?
Girl! when the garlands of next year glow,
You may gather again, my dear—
But I go where the last year’s lost leaves go
At the falling of the year.’

Music Monday & News

First....I shall start with some lovely and exciting news....my dear pallio's book is released today! I'm soooo excited for Dottie! I'm so in awe of her right now that she has gone the whole nine miles and has written a book and released it and now her name is out there...she is an author. She is a writer. I've adored her writings for a while, so I am so proud of her. Can't wait to read her book myself.

****Buying links:

Amazon

Barnes & Noble

Also available on iTunes****

Isn't the cover lovely?

Well, now its time for a little bit of music.

This first song has been stuck in my head for a while. I can't get it out. GAAAH! Plus it slightly reminds me of Lily from A Million Little Pieces.

Here's another song...this one, I believe, would be played in A Million Little Pieces, if it were to be a movie. Plus its a good  song I've always fancied.

This video amazes me and if I wasn't shy I would do this. bahahaha.

That's all I have this week. ^.^

It's Sad But True by Carole Rae

Instead of doing my "Thursday Book Teaser" I want to post something random. I want to post this poem that I wrote a few months ago and posted on my side blog with my pals. I wrote it randomly before work when I was upset at my now boyfriend who was being a butt one day. Haha. *Note - At the time we were "just friends" and he wasn't sure he wanted to even be my friend or anything more. Plus I was scared of dating again due to some crushing breakhearts in my past. He was chasing this girl Beth (unknowing to me at the time) then he gave her the boot and started wooing me. It was cute, but at the time I was so crushed by his cold attention for a while.*

The blog is a lot of fun. In the end this blog is going to be turned into a book. That is our dream. We are writing tales, poems, and etc from our lives to use an example for others to follow or not follow. It's sort of like the Chicken Soup books. While Reece and Victoria we at a restaurant going over the table of contents and details about our future book a man walked up to them and started chatting with them about our "book". He said that when we get it published and get the name out and about and then he'll make it a movie or TV show. FUN! He gave them his name and number and etc. Hopefully this guy is legit. No pressure, but if you want to view the blog click here. My pen name is Anna Rae.

Well, here's my poem that I am so proud of:

It's Sad But True
by: CaroleRae/AnnaRae

It's sad but true,
For I don't need you.
I don't need that thing called love.
For love is as fickle as the doves
That fly by without a care.
For even they know that true love leads to despair
The evidence is easy to be seen.
For love was not even worth it for the Virgin Queen,
Who was the product of a love that went deadly wrong.
For none can love that long.

I do not need you to love me good sir,
For I am strong and none can demur
This fact, for mine eyes has seen its fair share of hurts
For the world is a pervert
And loves to play games and never play by the same rules
For the world is unfair, unforgiving, and simply just cruel.
Many times this heart of mine has been smashed,
For love and flirtations always seem to backlash
And I always end up alone and ran through the mud,
For not even my own flesh and blood
Would stay with me and be by my side
For this I will never be the blushing bride.

It's sad but ultimately true,
For I don't need you.
I don't need that thing called love,
For love is as fickle as the doves
Who know that none ever get the love they deserve
For love expires. So excuse me while I swerve
And avoid that volatile thing called love.
For even the fickle doves
Know that love is a game of cards
For which I have no hope to win because I am so scarred.

It's sad but true,
For I wish I had you,
But why would you want someone like me?
So please don't look at me -
The way you do or how you make me -
Feel so important or how you make my heart feel so free.
Please just let me be,
You cruel, cruel lovable man, you.

Music Monday: I'm Back Edition

I'm back! I'm back! Time to do a jig! Huzzah I say, huzzah! *dances*

As you can see I have missed my blog and posting and my lovely stalkers, I mean followers. ^.^ I know I haven't been gone too long, but it FEELS like an eon since I last posted or visited other blogs. Since it is Monday, I shall post my Music Monday. Time to get back into the flow of things. ^.^

Here is a nice colleague of some of the characters from Once Upon a Time. Not only is the video lovely, but the song is fantastic. It's 'Ever After' by Mariana's Touch

Never thought this combo would work, but it's rather good. Here's a video about King Henry VIII, song 'Whatcha Say', and the song 'Hide and Seek'.

Haha, a nice way to remember the personalities of the zodiacs. My friend shared this with me. It's so true, it's funny. ^.^

Thanks all I got this week. I feel so GOOD posting again. ^.^ A nice stress reliving.

Life Is A Big, Big Butt

I know I haven't been on in quite sometime, but life has been a totally pain in the ass. Thursday is my last day of the semester and then I'm done for almost an entire month! Huzzah! Huzzah! Not only has school been slashing my free-time, so has work, and other random life things. For example, last Thursday I hit a sink hole with tire. It DESTROYED the rim. All weekend I was running around getting a new one and trying to figure out how to get to work and other places I needed to go. In betwixt this I had to go to the hospital and get a physical and some shots. Why? Well, starting in December I start a new job at the Henry Ford Hospital as a  food server. Huzzah! I proclaim again!

Regular postings will commence after Thursday after this week. ^.^ See you guys then!

Bookish Blog Hop Party & News

Hey everyone! I have a bit of news to share before jumping into the Bookish Blog Hop Party. ^.^

I was given the honor of being part of Tink's Place. Dottie, the owner and my friend, has handed me the reins for the famous Flash Fiction meme! For those of you that have never heard of this meme, then you have missed out! It's a lot of fun. Every Monday a picture is presented and by Friday you post a short story with the minimum of 350 words to go along with the picture It's a lot of fun. It defiantly gets the creative juices flowing.

Here's my cute little signature that I'll be using:

Yes, that is Fawn one of Tinkerbell's fairy friends. ^.^ Since I love Tinkerbell and themes, Dottie and I decided to keep the theme and I have my own little fairy avatar too. If you want to check out my first post click HERE and click THIS and be transported to Dottie introducing me to her followers.

Meet K.J. Dahlen:

I live in a small town (population 495) in Wisconsin. From my deck I can see the Mississippi River on one side and the bluffs, where eagles live and nest on the other side. I live with my husband Dave and dog Sammy. My two children are grown and I have two grandchildren. I love to watch people and that has helped me with my writing. I often use people I watch as characters in my books and I always try to give my characters some of my own values and habits.

I love to create characters and put them in a troubling situation then sit back and let them do all the work. My characters surprise even me at times. At some point in the book they take on a life of their own and the twists and turns they create becomes the story. Of all the stories I could write I found I like mystery/thrillers the best. I like to keep my readers guessing until the very end of the book.
My book titles are: Bones, The Darkness Within, Meghan’s Legacy, Shadow Chaser, Witness, Secrets and Lies, Legacy of Murder, The Unknown Son, The Prophet, No One to Hear You Scream, Bradbury Inn, Murderous Intent, Wrong Number, Fall from Grace, The House on Berkley Street.

Thursday Book Teaser: The Iron Duke

A weekly meme created by Carole (me) to share excerpts and book teasers from books. Anyone can join, just make sure not to give away any spoilers.

Happy Thursday everyone! The weekend is nearly here and Halloween is right around the corner! So instead of my usual TBT meme picture, I'll temporarily use a Halloween version of the old one. hehehe. I am really getting into the spirit this year. I even have a great costume I'm wearing. No, not Anne Boleyn (never had a chance to save enough money due to my lack of a job for a while), but Marie Antoinette. I won't be able to wear it to work (*sighs*), but I'm wearing it to a Halloween party in November. Odd, but it works! I'm reusing my dress that I wore long ago at my sweet 16. It'll be big, because I was 30lbs heavier, but oh well. There are ties on it, so it'll fit. ^.^ I also plan on this time around as Marie to be a little morbid perhaps. I'm contemplating using red makeup around the neck of where she lost her head to the guillotine. Perhaps I'll be The Ghost of Marie Antoinette.

Not every original though....mmmmm...maybe I'll be Princess Lambelle or Madame du Barry. ^.^ For the latter I can go nuts! I'll wear a ton of jewelry and be skanky. Lots of ideas! Maybe I'll just be a witch. Nah...I have been a witch twice already..........

Sorry for the rant...here is my book teaser for 'The Iron Duke' by Meljean Brook. I've barely broken the cover, so this teaser is a teaser for me too. In honor of Halloween and all the spooky stuff, I've picked page 66 starting at sentence 6. Of course you can pick your own starting point, but here we go!

Page #: 66
Starting at sentence: 6

"Remembering that, Mina's anger built into resolution. What could Trahaern to do her family that Horde hadn't already done? Nothing. And her family had always fought back, always survived. The only danger he posed was to Mina's person and her career - but no matter the damage he caused, she would survive that, too.

She looked up. The rood of the lift had almost reached the next floor. The duke still hadn't spoken. Her tension began to loosen its grip. Had she mistaken his intentions, then? Perhaps he just hadn't wanted to be crowded.

Metal scraped, and the lift jolted to a halt. Mina stumbled forward before catching her balance - and realized that he'd timed it perfectly. They'd stopped halfway between floors. The lift's roof concealed them from above, and if anyone entered the corridor below, the gate blocked the view of the lift's interior.

Damn him. Damn him."

Oooooooh. Can't wait to see what happens next! What are you guys wearing this Halloween (or at any event in honor of the this lovely holiday)?

A Late Music Monday

Happy late Monday everyone! How was everyone's weekend? Mine? Well, filled with work and tiredness. I worked a 10 hour shift today and I nearly forgot to post my Music Monday post today. Not complaining about working too much, but for some reason it....just doesn't feel right. I like Subway, I do, but....I'm not sure.

Anyways, let's begin with the music.

First is a video that my professor shared with us in our Macroeconomics class. It's kind of funny, but true. Death to the penny!! *shakes pitchfork*

Not only do I like this next song, but I feel like Athena from To Catch a Wolf would listen to this and imagine her beloved Morgan. This is 'Give Your Heart a Break' by Selena Gomez.

Ahhhh, can't get enough of these multi-fandom videos. The song for this one is a personal favorite song of mine...'Wide Awake' by Katy Perry.

Hope you enjoyed my selections for this week. ^.^

News & Bookish Blog Hop Party!

Well, I have nothing to really post today, so I'll just post this today due to the fact that school starts today. Yayy *sarcasm*. I am excited, however, that I have first official teacher class! That means I'm a wee bit closer to my goal of becoming a teacher. ^.^ Here's a list of the class I'll be taking this semester:

~Intro to Education (woot woot!)
~Intermediate Algebra (last math class)
~Prin Macroeconomics (...)
~International Relations (eh)

Wish me luck! I fear that this semester is going to kick my rump a wee bit. I shall apologize now...I fear my posting and reading free-time will be diminished slightly. Never fear though. I shall not abandon you all.

Thursday Book Teaser #7: Through a Glass Darkly

Thursday Book Teaser is a Carole-version of all the other book teaser memes out there. Every Thursday, I'll share a little tease of a book I'm currently reading. I'll randomly pick a page or I'll give some random number and flip to that page. I'll just share a few sentences to try and tease you. Anyone can join in! Just remember ...no spoilers! By the way this picture I found on Google and edited it myself.

Happy Thursday everyone! How is everyone doing? The weekend is nearly here, so don't you all fret! Well, my luck has not changed. I'm still fighting the State of Michigan for my right of unemployment. The ball is in their court right now (ha), but by the time they grant me my unemployment money, I'll probably be working again. *sighs*

Well, I am half tempted to drag myself to Taco Bell and see if they'll re-hire me. The old General Manager isn't there anymore, so maybe I'll actually like it there. At the Grand Opening of Shopko I ran into an old work buddy from Taco Bell. We talked a while and she half convinced me to give Taco Bell a shot. "What can it hurt?" She said to me. I left them on decent turns (I only gave them a week notice instead of two), so perhaps the new General Manager will give me a shot. I'm not sure. I'm still keeping my hopes up for the receptionist position at a law firm or a hosting job at Silver Grill. I would really prefer one of those two. However, in this economy I can not be picky.

Sorry for the rant above, but I needed to get it off my chest and put my feelings into words. I'll be talking more about it on my other blog; which I've highly neglected. You can click THIS and be transported there. It's just a personal blog I created a while ago. ANYWAYS, shall we get with the teasing?

This week I'll be sharing a snipbit from Through a Glass Darkly by Karleen Koen.

Page Number: 84
Starting at sentence: 5
Chapter: 3

"...'No! Do not deny it, Roger. Tell me you fallen madly in love.'

Roger shook his head, amused rather than irritated by Carlyle's theatrics. Tomorrow, he knew, various rounds of conversion would be repeated in the coffeehouses, and by evening in the drawing rooms. It was inevitable.

'All I know,'Carlyle was saying, 'is that I must see this vision for myself. Not that I will. Diana despises me. When is the happy bridal?'

'I leave that to the lawyers and my prospective bride's family. I simply want the affair settled before I go to France so that I may leave some instructions with my bankers. I would like to start building roads by spring-'

'France! Roads! Spring! Do stop and explain yourself, dear boy. You will leave this treasure behind? A honeymoon in France would be quite romance.'

'I am too old for romance. And she is only a child. She can wait. The regent has invited me to Carnival, and I find myself yearning to see Paris, and so to visit the homes of my friends there. And Italy beckons. Burlington has just come from there. He says the villas are magnificent. I want to build the most beautiful house London has ever seen. Before Burlington does.'

'Then you ought to know that one hears Lady Saylor has had the land surveyed.'

Roger had been relaxed in his chair. Now he straightened up. Several different emotions chased themselves quickly across his face. Carlyle waited with interest; he loved to watch Roger's face....."
