Top Ten Tuesday: Books People Suggest Me to Read

To learn more about Top Ten Tuesday or see the list of future topics click here.

Well....I swore I put this on a scheduled post for yesterday. Sighs. Oh well.  This week's topic is: Top Ten Books People Have Been Telling You That You MUST Read.

There is no order to my list:

-Fifty Shades of Grey (and the rest of the series) by EL James Everyone has been trying to get me to read, especially my friend Anee. Now that one of my favorite actors is playing the man characters, I feel inclined to read it. Sighs. I just can't get myself to read it. :/

-The Hunger Games (All the rest of the series) by Suzanne Collins. My cousin had given me all the ebooks for Christmas. Plus I've seen the movie. I just can't get myself to read it. Someday.

-Bitten by Kelly Armstrong. I will be reading this soon for my book club, but I've had a hard time getting myself to read this. haha.

-Pet Sematary by Stephen King. Everyone looooooooooooooooooves Stephen King, but I've never been a huge fan. Maybe someday.

-The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. This has been on my TBR list for a long time, because a couple friends of mine really want me to read this. Someday!!

-To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Teachers, fellow book people, and friends have been telling me how good this book is, but I still have yet to read it. >__<

-Angels and Demons (And the others in the series) by Dan Brown. A friend of mine who found out I haven't read this yet acted soooo offended that I haven't read the books. Maybe someday.

-The Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier. So many people have told me to read this and I bought it at a Used Book Store a while back. It is still unread by me, but someday.

-The Help by Kathryn Stockett. This has been one of the most recommended books from friends and other people. It is even a future book in my book club, so I'll be reading it sooner or later.

-Choke by Chuck Palahniuk. A couple of my friends have highly suggested reading this. Someday I will, it sounds sooooooo good.

Any books you guys suggest for me?

Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Things I Like/Dislike on Book Covers

To learn more about Top Ten Tuesday or see the list of future topics click here.

Today's topic is: 10 things you hate or like on book covers. For this one, I'm going to do half and half. 5 things I like, 5 things I don't. I'll show examples of books that I've read in the past, just so you get an idea of what I mean.

(No order to my lists)
5 Things I Love
-I love when the cover has beautiful colors going on. I just love when they use beautiful colors to draw the eye in! It makes the book feel so special. ^.^

-I love when they put on lovely gowns. I just love the gowns! Except if the character never wears the gown. It has to make sense on WHY they are wearing it. (IE. The time period, a wedding, and etc)

-I love when the cover has objects that tie into the story. Before you read it you don't really appreciate the cover as much, but when you read it, it all makes sense! Clever cover makers. ;)

-I love when they actually use the model's full body. I love it when they actually include the head and face of the model.

-I love when they use old pictures. Book covers that have lovely old paintings make me feel giddy! It just adds something to it.

5 Things I Loath
-I hate half/no faces on my covers. If one is going to use a model, SHOW ME THEIR FACE! It is creepy with just half a face.

-I hate overly simple book covers. Don't get me wrong, I do like a nice simple cover, but sometimes its rather boring.

-I hate when the model or drawing has a weird face going on. Don't they look before pick a picture? I mean seriously, I hate when the person's face is looking like they have to fart or they look just plain odd.

-I hate cheesy book covers. You know the ones I'm talking about. They are just so cheesy you can't help but roll your eyes at them.

-I hate awkwardly placed items. I hate when they put something in an odd spot and so it makes the cover look weird. You know what they were aiming for, but it just failed.

Top Ten Tuesday: Turn-offs

~The Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.~

Wow...its been FOREVER since I've done one of these...but since I have nothing really to post today and I'm bored in class, I shall share my top ten list of the turn-offs of books that well...turn me off and I may toss the book a time or two...

(There is no order)

1. Animal cruelty.
As you all know I hate this in movies, but the same can be poked at in books. Makes me mad and want to cry.

2. Love Triangles that last too long.
I don't mind love a good love triangle, but when it lasts WAY too long I can't handle it. Especially when it runs into multiple books. GAH.

3. Forced Instant Love.
Yes, there are some instances that people fall in love on the spot, but I HATE it when it seems forced.

4. Books with Movie Covers.
Dammit. I love movies, but its so annoying and cheesy when they put the cover of the movie adaptations onto the book. NO! They are two different entities.

5. The Parents always seem to be MIA.
Yes, some people have absent parents...but for the whole novel? Barely a peep out of the parents is so unrealistic.

6. Stereotypical Steampunk.
This is a personal preference...but I have a hard time like the A-typical steampunk novel. Nope...can't do it. I do like the game BioShock though...

7. Sex on Every Page.
I love my romances...I do. However, I want some plot thrown in there please. Thank you.

8. Perfect Characters.
You know of this hatred I have, so I will not ramble on this topic, because I will never stop...

9. Overwriting.
I am bad with this myself from time to time, but I edit my writings (unless it is a challenge and I can't), but overly describing things and going into WAY too many details is annoying and makes me sigh.

10. Ending To Long/Ending To Abrupt.
Okay, there is no explanation needed.

Top Ten Tuesday: Hopeless Crushes

~The Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.~

Happy Tuesday. I was awaken early this morning, because Boyfriend had to go to work and I feel bad if I stay asleep while he gets ready for work. I don't get to spend much time with him, so I like to arise from the depth of my slumber to hang out with him. He made some coffee and insisted I drink some (I must have looked like death). I did...and now I'm awake. Gah! Oh well. So I shall do this week's TTT and then share a movie review either later today or tomorrow. We shall see.

Anyways...this week the topic is: fictional hopeless crushes. There are many. I know it's suppose to be a "book" meme, but there is one on my list that comes from an anime/manga that I'll be sharing. He's new and I think He should be included. I'll try to add some variety to this list too since I did a similar post a while back about my fictional "boyfriends". To check that post out click HERE. I will also add pictures of what I think they look like or what they look like (like the manga/anime one):

~There is no order to this list!~

----Rei from 'Fist of the North Star'

----Draco Malfoy from 'Harry Potter' series.

-----Jasper Tudor from 'The Red Queen'
----Haun from 'The Seducation of the Phoenix'

----Zhang Jin from 'The Seduction of the Phoenix'

----White Man's Dog/Fools Crow from 'Fools Crow'
him as an older adult.

----Grim from 'To Tame A Highland Warrior'

----Captain Alex Reid from 'The Betrayal of the Blood Lily'

----Miles Dorrington from The Pink Carnation Series

----Arius the Barbarian from 'Mistress of Rome'

Who are you all hopeless crushing on in the fictional world?

Top Ten Tuesday: Springs TBR

~The Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.~

Well, nature has tricked me yet again. For like two days we had amazing, spring like weather. Then it rained and now it is....snowing. *sighs* All week is going to be 30s-40s. Maaaaaan, why can't spring JUST be here already? What the heck? It's March for heaven's sake! *sighs* Patience is a virtue.

Anways, for this week I'll be sharing my top ten books that are going to be read this spring. I've been very sporadic with my reading lately and I think its affecting my reading pace. Perhaps this nice solid and concrete list will put me on the right track.

FYI, there is no order to the list.

~A Million Little Pieces by James Frey (working on that right now)

~My Scandalous Viscount by Gaelen Foley

~The Violent Bear It Away by Flannery O'Connor

~The rest of the Basilisk mangas (I was just thinking on doing an overall review on all of them, idk)

~A Midnight's Summer Dream by William Shakespeare

~Ashford's Affair by Lauren Willig

~Dracula in Love by Karen Essex

~Cowboy Fever by Joanne Kennedy

~Running Fox by Cassie Edwards

~Daugthers of Rome by Kate Quinn

What do you guys plan on reading this spring?

Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Characters in Classic Novels

~The Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.~

Happy Tuesday morning my amigos. Its cold and windy and icy and I have to go to work in a few hours. *sighs* Life is a bitch sometimes. How are things on your side of the globe?

This week's topic is your top ten favorite characters in the genre of your choice. I decided to do the Classic genre this time. ^.^

(there is an order to this list)

10. Julia from '1984'. Though I wasn't a huge fan of the book, I did like Julia. I felt so bad for her though....

9. Jim from 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn'. He was the secret hero of the novel and I adored him. He was such a good guy and I applaud him for not wanting to strangle Huckleberry or Sawyer.

8. Anne Elliot from 'Persuasion'. Though I hated her to begin with, I grew to love her and applaud her later on. She was a level headed woman and grew from a huge mistake she made in her youth. She was such a good woman and smart and I'm glad she got her HEA.

7. The Mad Hatter from 'Alice in Wonderland'. Such a nut and I love him. Hahaha. I would have tea with him.

6. Jean ValJean from 'Les Miserables'. Though the name is stupid beyond belief, I still adore the man. He is so complex and so interesting. He went from being an innocent man to hardened criminal to a great man. Such a great character and it shows that people can change and people are good.

5. Penelope from 'The Odyssey'. Not a lot of people say they like her, but how could you not? Such a strong woman and a clever woman to boot. She waited, loyally, for her husband to return from a 10 year war, then another 10 years for him to come home. She waited and waited and kept all the money-hungry men at bay. Kuddos to her!

4. Mr. Darcy from 'Pride & Prejudice'. You all knew this was coming. He is snarky, brooding, and a dream boat. Hahaha.

3. Beatrice from 'Much Ado About Nothing'. I must reread this...I loved this book. But yeah, Beatrice was a kickass Shakespeare girl. Unlike Kat from 'Taming of the Shrew' she keeps her awesomeness and strong-willedness and STILL gets her HEA. ^.^

2. Captain Wentworth from 'Persuasion'. *drools*

1. Iago from 'Othello'. I know. I know. He is the baddie in this tale, but I can't help but like him. He is SO complex and SO odd. I can't help but adore characters that are so complex. I feel sort of bad for him, but he is the baddie and the causer of death and drama. Even though he never laid a finger on anyone...he just set them up to play to his little dance. I find that amazing and crazy. Hahaha. That is why he is my number 1.
