REVIEW:
It has been a while since I read the books and seen the first movie. I’ve been dying to see this film since I heard it was being made. Can’t help but love the story and the world. However, it is easy to catch up since the story of Alice and Wonderland is so famous.

This was fun. It was nice to see the old cast return even though it was super, duper sad that Alan Rickman has passed. WAH! SO MUCH SADNESS!!! The rest of the cast did pretty good and they pretty much personify the characters. Depp, who plays the Hatter, seemed off of game in this one. I’m not sure what it was….but he seemed disconnected with his character. Yes, yes, The Mad Hatter himself was off and sad, but even during the scenes when he is “normal”, Depp seemed off. Mhm. I wasn’t a fan of the performance of Father Time. Meh. I could be biased, because the actor is comedian and I prefer him being a fool in movies. Too serious of a role for the man.

Anyways….

I did love the time travel bit, but I feel it took away from the story in many ways. Strange since this is a time travel movie. There was little interaction with the looking glass compared to the book. They should have named this, “Alice and the Time Travelling Adventures”. Seeing the characters in their younger years and understanding more about the Hatter and the two queens was entertaining and necessary. However, the journey to travel to the past, the past traveling, and the Father Time bit was long and drawn out. There really was no baddie in this. Yes, running from Father Time could be considered the “baddie”, but it wasn’t intense enough. This honestly felt like a fan-fiction more than an adaptation of the books.

Like I mentioned it was a fun ride, but there were so many little things that bugged me, that it made it hard to fully enjoy the film as much as I wanted to.

In the end, I do recommend watching this if you are a fan of the movie or of the books. It was fun and cute. A few issues that irked me, but overall still worth a watch. Personally, though, I feel it is a one-time watch.

Now…the rating? I’ve been debating with myself for a while on what to give this film….mhmmm….I’m still debating as I type this. I think I shall settle on a 3. Nearly a 2, but I think a 3 will suffice

I had totally forgotten about Alan Rickman being a voiceover until I heard it and then Courtney and I both just looked at each other and tried not to cry.

I 100% agree with you about Depp/Hatter, it just wasn't everything I was hoping it would be and that was very disappointing.

However, I disagree with Father Time. I hate this crazy stupid movies, and prefer him in off kilter roles like this and in Sweeny Todd so I loved his character. I also loved the little second characters, especially the oil can. So cute! I want one! <3

And yes, it's dumb to imply this movie is based off of the Looking Glass story when it is clearly not, very annoying. It was a good movie just incorrectly titled.

I had a nice time with this one even if it's not that awesome.

I am not sure about it - I liked the book but I've seen the first part and Depp didn't make the right impression. Maybe.

Reece, I got super sad when his voice popped up! I liked the actor in Sweeny Told because he was still funny...here he was playing a more serious role. Meh. And the little creatures were cute!!

B, huh?

Melliane, same here.

Ana, he was okay in the first....meh in this
