Book Review: The Moonlit Guardians by Ethel Venters

The Moonlit GuardiansAuthor: Ethel Venters
Title: The Moonlit Guardians
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Pages: ebook
Published: February 2016
Where I Got It: My shelf (Amazon Freebie)

Two brothers, Andre and Paul, a pair of werebears, travel to the Alaskan wilderness so that Andre can better learn to control his transformation. The brothers live in Olympia, Washington, working as architects. Both brothers are surprised to find out that Andy, who is only half-werebear, inherited the transformative power.
Throughout the journey, Andre learns to control his power and starts to feel more at home in nature than he ever did at the office.

Andy must decide if he wants to stay in the woods or go back to his life in Olympia. Paul tries to convince Andy to return home and runs into an old flame, a werewolf named Amelia. Amelia seduces both brothers, and Paul discovers it may have been a distraction so that her brother, Corion, could wage war on other werebears in North America. Will Paul and Andre stay with Amelia or join the werebears and attack the werewolves?

You know how I love freebies! And I was feeling a PNR, so why not.

The story follows Andre and Paul who are brothers and shapeshifters. Paul has taken his brother to the wilderness so Andre can learn more and better control his powers since he a "late bloomer". They run into Paul's old flame, Amy, who is from a different tribe of shapeshifters.

I was pleasantly surprised by this. There was an actual plot and there was only one smexy scene and the rest was all story and character development. There were some excitement and drama too and I was happy.

The ending left me a little annoyed. I wanted more of a conclusion. I wanted an epilogue or something. It was too open-ended for my liking.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. There was a story mixed in with the romance aspect. The ending? Meh. Too open-ended. I'll give it a 3.

Yay for a freebie turning out to be the right book for the right mood. Ah, spoilt endings leaving questions can sour the whole experience.

The cover art would put me off instantly (headless bodies? Thanks but no, thanks) but wow, what a surprise. Character development instead of sex scenes. Who would have guessed.

Sophia, yesss it really did annoy me. But I will take this win for the freebie.

Ana, I nearly passed it up, but for some reason I still clicked on it to add it to my inventory. LOL. I was super surprised.
