Hugo Marshall earned the nickname "the Wolf of Clermont" for his ruthless ambition—a characteristic that has served him well, elevating the coal miner's son to the right hand man of a duke. When he's ordered to get rid of a pestering governess by fair means or foul, it's just another day at work.

But after everything Miss Serena Barton has been through at the hands of his employer, she is determined to make him pay. She won't let anyone stop her—not even the man that all of London fears. They might call Hugo Marshall the Wolf of Clermont, but even wolves can be brought to heel...

Oooo! So fun. I didn't know about these prequels and whatnot. Thanks, Amazon Audible! I wanted more backstory and here I got it!

Now, this is the first of the first. The one that brings everything together. It was fun to watch Hugo and Serena find each other. Such a unique story.

Now, Serena was taken advantage of by the Duke her employer. She is determined to make him pay for what he did! She is finally standing up for herself! The Duke, not wanting to hear any of it, orders his right-hand man, Hugo, to take care of this issue. A man of his word and needing the Duke's reputation to stay clear decides to take on Miss Serena.

It was fun watching them interact. They respected each other and liked each other right off the bat, but they are enemies so they have to mess with each other. It was fun but honorable until a certain event. I get Hugo has to do his job...but really? Sighs. They don't call him the Wolf of Clermont for nothing. BUT he made up for it and honestly...at that rate it was the only solution.

This was a little darker and I liked it. They both have their issues, but everything felt realistic and well done. It was also very short, but I felt that it worked well.

Like usual, the narrator was very good. I enjoyed her and like her voice.

In the end, I enjoyed this one a lot. It was nice to get a little prologue and to see the events that actually happened. Throughout the books, we get some bits and pieces, but it was nice to see it. I enjoyed the characters. They were fun and it was nice to see them fall in love. Highly recommend it even if you don't read on. 5 stars.
