After a black witch pitched a hissy fit in Hollis Apothecary, Rue got stuck cleaning up his mess. That was the easy part. Repairing the damage he inflicted on Camber and Arden? That makes Rue wish she could bring him back to life just to kill him again. Slower this time.

While Rue is setting her new life back to rights, Clay and Asa are off working a case, but it soon becomes clear that they’ll need her help to catch the vicious creature preying on locals in a small Tennessee town. She’s got her hands full at home, but Rue has no choice. She must report for duty to honor her agreement with the director. Or else.

What she discovers leads her deeper down the rabbit hole of Black Hat Bureau corruption and promises that, no matter how grim the past few weeks have been, the worst is yet to come.

Review:
Yayy book 2!

This takes places pretty much right after the events of the last one. Rue is stuck cleaning up the mess left behind by a black witch. Cleaning up stuff is easy, but repairing the damage he inflicted on Camber and Arden is a much bigger task. While they are all setting their life back into place, Clay and Asa are off working a case, but it is soon made clear that they'll need Rue's help. She has no choice but to go help them. What they will discover will lead them down a deep rabbit hole of Black Hat Bureau corruption and promises there is something coming.

I was really excited to start this one. I enjoyed book 1 but I have a feeling that as things are being fleshed out the series will get better and better. Plus, people swear by this series so I'm excited to see for myself.

The concept is fun and refreshing for the PNR/UF world. Especially Colby. What a darling little sidekick.

Love Rue and her gang...even some members of the small town. Cute!

The baddie was scary and zombies are always scary.

Corruption is there and I fear for all of them...especially our human friends. Eeee!

There was some repetitive inner monologue moments that was driving me slightly insane. Yes, yes. I get it. We all get it Rue. Love you dear, but omg.

I did the audiobook version this time and I'm happy I made the switch. This narrator really fleshed out the characters and story. She did a wonderful job.

In the end, I did like this. I'm really warming up to this series and these characters. Some repetitive parts, but it was easy to keep going. Switching to the audio was a great choice. I hope she does book 3. I'll give this 4 stars.

Same narrator for all of the books. Overall, I really enjoyed. I think there was one or two books that I ranked lower than a B, but overall great. Although that repetition thing does happen in other books.
