Summary:
Mercy Thompson's life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman - the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack - has made her a stepmother to his daughter Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy's life. But on the edges of humanity, a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more...

After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can't reach Adam - or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They've all been abducted.

Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. But she fears Adam's disappearance may be related to the political battle the werewolves have been fighting to gain acceptance from the public - and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outmatched and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from any ally she can get, no matter how unlikely.

Review:
Slowly making my way through this series! I will catch up darnit!

Mercy Thompson has been through a lot of changes lately. Between becoming the mate of Adam, stepmother to his daughter, and learning more about her abilities. After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jess can't reach Adam...or anyone from the pack. Turns out that they've all been abducted. Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is alive but is angry and pain. She fears this kidnapping might be related to a political battle the werewolves have been fighting for a while now. Outmatched and on her own, Mercy will have to get assistance from any ally she can get even the most unlikely ones.

I loved the change of format for this one. Mercy has to save Adam and her new pack. We get to see her interact more with her new stepdaughter and some of her allies that don't really get a lot of screen time. It was nice seeing her pull at her random ally list. And there was one I really didn't see coming. I won't spoil anything. ;)

I did have a moment where I teared up a LOT. It's not really a spoiler, but kind of is....someone does die. Someone everyone loves. Ugh. My heart!!!!!!!! No names. Just have your Kleenex close at hand.

There was another "death" but it has been a long time coming. I'm sure Adam was not sad at all. Poor Mercy. It is hard to say goodbye to an object you love. I don't think I was ready to say goodbye either. Maybe she'll find something just as good. *fingers crossed*

We do not get as much Mercy and Adam time here, but I think the author did alright with utilizing the mating bond for them to have SOME time together while she tries to find him. It was sweet and done well. I did want more time though ;) but I think I've gotten spoiled from the last book when it was their honeymoon.

The narrator is perfect. I could sing praises for this narrator ALL day. Perfect voices!

In the end, I did enjoy this a bit. No real big issues. I was missing the Adam-Mercy scenes, but I think I have become spoiled. This did make me feel and I am sad. This was tense and had lots of action. 4 stars from me.

Oh yes, this one required tissues for me, too. I liked how it was Mercy to the rescue.

Yess! This one was pretty sad. And agreed. Mercy needed to shine!
