Zachary Degaud was twenty three when he died. The problem was, he didn't stay that way.
Present day, he's just another vampire with another unremarkable story. That is, until he manages to provoke a two thousand year old witch named Katrin, who wants to make him pay in the most horrible way imagined.
Along with his brother Sam, newly made vampire Liz and their only witch ally, Gabby, his only chance for survival is to summon the ancient and unpredictable vampire known as the Witch Hunter.
Zac is just looking for a way out of his psychopathic witch problems, but instead will find himself falling head first into a blood feud that has stretched thousands of years.
Aya has been asleep for the past 150 years, until she was awoken by a haunting call. The witch she has been hunting for thousands of years, Katrin, has resurfaced and marked a young, annoyingly arrogant vampire by the name of Zachary Degaud. Unless she does something, he will die a slow and painful death. He has given her an opportunity to end the witch, but does she want to help him or leave him to his fate? Zac will get under her skin like no one else has and she just might find herself making the ultimate sacrifice before he is gone forever.
They will both have to choose sides and look deep within themselves before the end. But, what Zac learns about himself, will surprise him most of all.
Been a little while since I tried a UF and I was in the mood for it. I had an itch for some vamps and the rest of the gang of paranormal peeps. This was sitting on my eshelf for a while now...so I felt it was time.
Well...let's take a view of my reading journey (I'm going to have fun with the format since it is the holiday season).
First, the story follows Zac who is a vamp and has a group of friends. Things happen and he pisses some old witch off. In order to save themselves and possibly the world, they decide to the summon a legendary Witch Hunter named Aya.
The first couple of chapters: I'm enjoying the journey. The characters seem to have some promises. That witch seems scary. The story really has me hooked.
Next couple of chapters: Something isn't sitting right with me...I feel like I am having a smidgen of deja vu. Oh well...let's move forward. I could be crazy
One chapter later: Okay...something is wrong. Did I happen to read this before? *does some thinking* No. That can't be it.
Another chapter later: Okay, okay. I'm going to check Goodreads and read some reviews. *goes through Goodreads* OOOOOH! This is pretty much a book that rode on the coattails of 'The Vampire Diary' fame. The characters are pretty much cutouts and re-branded. The origins are dang near identical. Granted...I only watched a couple of episodes here and there so I didn't pinpoint this right away like a lot of other readers. I decided to still read on because why not? Maybe things will do a sharp turn in a different direction...
4 pages later: ANNNNNNNND no. There is the love triangle...square....weird thing going on. Sighs. Why?!
Another couple of chapter later: *yawn* Let's do some skimming.
Skims to the end: Yeaaaaa...I wasted my time on this. The characters got worse and worse. The writing started falling apart and just...sighs. A super let down overall.
OVERALL: This did not cut it for me. I was willing to look past all the similarities but things just started getting ridiculous and annoying. I am still craving a UF or Paranormal story...but this was not it at all. I'm going to give this 1 star.

vvb32, :D Thanks!
Ana, yess UF is either terrible or really good.
Ruh Ro, Raggy!
I would have given it a try even if it was a knock-off, but like you, a stinky plot and over the top antics would drive me to hate on it, too. :)
hehehehe. Yes. That is why I stuck too it. Hoping that it would still be a fun version of the original.
