Where I Got It: My shelf (Amazon freebie)
Dragons. Right. Teenage girls don’t believe in fairy tales, and sixteen-year old Elena Watkins was no different.
Until the night a fairy tale killed her father.
Now Elena’s in a new world, and a new school. The cutest guy around may be an evil dragon, a Prince wants Elena’s heart, and a long dead sorcerer may be waking up to kill her. Oh. And the only way Elena’s going to graduate is on the back of a dragon of her own.
Teenage girls don’t believe in fairy tales. Now it’s time for Elena to believe – in herself.
Picked this up because it was a freebie on Amazon AND it would've fit nicely on my Bingo reading challenge. However, not all things are meant to be.
Atypical. Teen had no idea magical things existed because her parent wouldn't explain anything to her and then he is killed by a magical thing. Fast forward, she is living in the new world and a new school. Cute guy MIGHT be evil but he loves her. A hawt Prince wants her heart and people are trying to kill her.
I sound bitter and I am. The premise had such hope to actually be good! I am a hopeful doe I know. I also missed out on a bingo box AND I have broken my streak of not DNFing books. Sighs. I haven't DNFed anything since June of 2022!!!! I nearly hit a year!!!!!!! Dang...2 months shy.
This sounded pretty good and, I guess, I had a lot of hope it wouldn't feel and sound the same of every other YA magical book. But after a couple of chapters it started feeling like déjà vu for me. Lots of 2D characters running around and a plot that has been used and recycled so many times.
Yes, I quit at about page 100-ish. UGH I tried so hard. I love dragons! I wish that trope was more popular. Dragons are cool!!!!
Gah, I will have to DNF. It was not for me.
Onto the next book!
