Review:
A friend recommended this and it was a freebie on Amazon so why not.

We follow Ember and her best friend, Angel. Ember is caught between the worlds of Light and Dark Fae and was born with the mark of the Silver Stag. Both bloodlines have rejected her and she has turned her back on them too. She became a freelance investigator. Ember receives a call from Angel saying that Angel's little brother has vanished. It becomes a race against time to find him and save his life. When Ember discovers what has happened to DJ, she and Angel will find themselves recruited into Herne's elite squad of bounty hunters.

I liked Ember a lot. She is the perfect mix of badass but relatable even though she is a Fae. I was kinda bummed she and Angel were pretty much forced into joining the squad. It didn't feel like a choice at all. YES, I get it was the best choice for them to keep everyone safe......but it was like being volun-told. They pretend you have a choice and you are being "asked", but not really.

I also was super mad that DJ had to essentially be taken away from Angel. Again....it was the best choice because he is a shapeshifter and Angel isn't.....so this family will teach him and protect him. Pretty much Witness Protection in a way that will train him, but it is super far away and Angel can only get scheduled visits.......ugh. I didn't like that. They were supposedly given a choice, but was it? Nah.

Herne...oh Herne....I have super mixed feelings for him. Maybe book 2 I'll like him more. He just rubbed me the wrong way.

I did love the squad especially Viktor. They were fun. I am curious to learn more about them in future books. Yes, I am curious about at least reading book 2 and I hope I like it more. This was okay and for sure an intro to this world and these characters. I feel like there is a lot to learn though.

In the end, I had some issues, but I did like the journey and our characters (*cough* except for Herne *cough*). Curious to see what happens next. I'll give this 3 stars.

Yess boo Herne! My friend says he gets better. We shall see. And I've tried a couple of books and I've liked them!
