Music Monday

Happy Monday everyone! So starts another week... Well, this week has started off with rain showers and super hot weather (at least in Michigan). I don't mind hot, but it's also super humid, so I'm grumpy today. haha. How's the weather in your neck of the woods?

The first video I would like to share is a combination of two things I adore: one being songs by One Republic and the second is Boyce Avenue. The two together would equal Boyce Avenue singing 'Apologize' by One Republic. Enjoy:

Next is 'Hurt' by the fabulous Christina Aguilera. I picked this for a couple of reasons. One is that I love this song and Christina Aguilera and two is because this song reminds me of Phedre from 'Kushiel's Dart'. Her parents abandoned her (to them it was for a good cause) when she was a small child. I can only imagin what it feels like to be abandoned by both parents. If she was to pick only one song to dedicate to her parents, I bet it would be this one:

A cute video by EponineGraydeChagny. It's a mash-up/crossover of couples from Disney movies. The song is Bad Romance by Lady Gaga:

Here's one of my favorite snippets from Family Guy...it's like 12 seconds long, but I laugh my face off every time:

Well, I hope you've enjoyed this week's selection. ^.^

Sunday Ketchup

~'Sunday Ketchup' was inspired by The Muse in the Fog's 'Suddenly Sunday' postings. However, mine are going to be a little bit different. Also when I went to spell 'Catchup' I accidentally spelled it wrong and put 'Ketchup'. I thought it was cute, so I kept it. Also, I'm addicted to ketchup! I want one of those ketchup shirts that says "I <3 Ketchup". Wouldn't that be cute? Every week, or whenever I remember, I'm going to post events that happened this past week, things coming up next week, updates, and news. You can join in and post your own 'Sunday Ketchup' postings, just make sure to mention me...if you want ^.^ ~

Happy Sunday everyone! The weekend is almost over. Booo!

I had a pretty decent week, because I had three days off. However I was stuck with being in pain all week and having to be careful eating because of getting my wisdom pulled. Also, there's been a lot of drama at work, so that was a good mood killer. How was YOUR week?

Past Week Posts:

What Came in the Mail/Store?:
Nothing. *sighs* I'm getting worried that I'll never get my book that I won. =( But the 4th season of DBZ came in for me. Yayy!

Anything New for the Blog?:
Umm, nothing I can think of.

What's Going to Be Posted This Week?:
The usual stuff. I doubt I'll have any books done this week, because I just started 'The Red Queen' and 'Kushiel's Dart' is taking me FOREVER. Also, I'm waiting for 'Taming of the Shrew' to arrive at my library.

Anything Else?:
Nope. It's probably going to be a dull week this week. *sighs*

What's new with your blog? Any exciting news?

New Movie of the Week Announcement

I was going to save this for Monday, but I can't find any movie trailers for this....so I'm just going to post the announcement today. ^.^

The next movie of the Week is.......

'Taming of the Shrew' the 1980s version! I guess it's not really a surprise, because I just finished the book the other day. This version stars John Cleese, Sarah Badel, Frank Thornton, and many others. I'm excited to watch this movie, because John Cleese stars in this adaptation! I love John Cleese! He's super funny. Sorry about the lack of a trailer.

Book Review: Taming of the Shrew

Author: William Shakespeare
Title: The Taming of the Shrew
Genre: Historical Fiction, Play, Comedy, Classic
Pages: 304
First Published: 1590
Where I Got It: My Shelf (a book full of Shakespeare works my Grandpa Carol gave me)

"Renowned as Shakespeare's most boisterous comedy, The Taming of the Shrew is the tale of two young men, the hopeful Lucentio and the worldly Petruchio, and the two sisters they meet in Padua.

Lucentio falls in love with Bianca, the apparently ideal younger daughter of the wealthy Baptista Minola. But before they can marry, Bianca's formidable elder sister, Katherine, must be wed. Petruchio, interested only in the huge dowry, arranges to marry Katherine -against her will- and enters into a battle of the sexes that has endured as one of Shakespeare's most enjoyable works. "

This would be the second time I've read 'Taming of the Shrew'. The first time I read it was after I had seen the movie 10 Things I Hate About You starring Heath Ledger. I had loved the movie, so I decided it would be wise to read the book/play that inspired the movie. I liked it the first time I read it, but I was confused a lot of the time. After a handful of years I returned to read this because of my heightened skill of deciphering William Shakespeare's complex word usage. Now when I read it I understood more of what was being said. I actually understood the humor!

When re-reading this book/play I was laughing so much I actually woke up Leopold. I sped through this, I could barely put it down! I loved all the characters for different reasons. They were all in their own little worlds and had completely different motives for what they did and why they did it. I felt kind of bad for Kate, because all she wanted was to be left alone, but no one would leave her alone. I believe that Kate was the most honest character. She was also a very strong and independent woman.

Many people complain that this book is "sexist" but I really don't see how. I find it the opposite of sexist, because Kate and Bianca's father could have just forced them to marry, but he let them do what they wanted (sort of). Kate was strong and independent and didn't let a man dominate her. How is that sexist? Maybe I'm missing it, but I just don't see it.

Anyways....I can't really think of anything I didn't like about this book/play. Of course I'm not a huge fan of the way William Shakespeare writes, but I never complain about that. I love his work and so I deal with the difficult word usage. There's nothing I can think of that I didn't like. It was funny, romantic, cute, witty, and just fun. If you're looking for a quick and fun book to read on a lazy summer day check this one out. You'll be rolling in laughter! Out of five stars I will grant this one 5 stars. ^.^

favorite character(s): Kate (she was just an honest and funny character)
not-so favorite character(s): Bianca (she's so annoying sometimes)
Favorite quote: "Is not this well? - Come, my sweet Kate; Better once than never, for never too late." said by Petruchio.
