Summary:
Could it possibly get any worse than having absolutely no magical abilities when you’re a member of the most powerful family of witches ever? It used to be that I’d say no, but then I keep getting set up on dates with Gil Connolly whose hotness is only matched by his ego. Seriously. I can’t stand him. Even if I also can’t stop thinking about him (specifically kissing him) but we’re going to pretend I never told you that part.

So yeah, my life isn’t the greatest right now, but then it goes straight to the absolute worst hell when I accidentally make my sister’s spell glitch and curse my whole family. And the only person who can help non-magical me break the spell? You guessed it. Gil the super hot jerk.

Now we have to work together to save my family and outmaneuver some evil-minded nefarious forces bent on world domination. Oh yeah, and we have to do all that while fighting against the attraction building between us because I may not be magical, but what’s happening between Gil and I sure feels like it.

Review:
Won this in a Goodreads giveaway a little bit ago. I've read some of this author in the past and I have enjoyed her stuff. Been meaning to read this so when it was my turn to pick for Book Club...I decided why not? Just in time for spooky seassssoooonnnn!

Here we follow Gil and Tilda. Tilda is part of the biggest and strongest witch family, BUT she has zero powers. Zilch. Nada. She has been trying to find love, but who wants a powerless witch? Enter in Gil who she keeps being matched up with on a blind date. He's hot, but a jerk. When Tilda accidentally glitches her sister's spell and curses her whole family...the only person who can help is Gil.

I have liked this author's books in the past, but this is the first Fantasy/PNR I have read by this author.

SOOoooooOOOOOOoooooOOOOOOoooo I definitely struggled with this. Once I got through a few chapters I started enjoying it a bit more but... I still had my issues though.

TBH I think we should've just had Tilda's POV. I didn't care for Gil's POV. I honestly would've liked to be surprised by his reveals and whatnot. His POV didn't add much to the story and it didn't go well with how Tilda was narrating her sections. It was two completely different formats and it was a little jarring for me I suppose.

The ending was a little easy.....it seemed a bit much and Tilda's family need to be knocked down a time or two. Freakin' treated Tilda like shit and got away with it. SMDH. I adored Tilda and it hurt my heart. Won't spoil anything, but omg.

I am curious about book 2 because I do want to see what is next and it sounds like it will be about Tilda's sister and the enemy's son. A lil Romeo/Juliet eh? I am intrigued. We shall see. It might be a case if I can get it for free or not. Maybe an audio version would be fun.

All-in-all, I wished I liked this more. I've adored this author's stuff in the past but I had so many issues with this one. I loveddddddd Tilda but I had issues with Gil and his POV. AND her family? GRRRR. I'll give this 2 stars. :/

Her stuff is normally really good but this fell flat for me.

Didn't realize she ventured into PNR. Bummer about the issues!

Carole Rae said...

Yeah - I think she has a couple series going on in this genre.

Sighs it is.

What a bummer. (I didn't know she did PNR either).

Neither did I until I won this.
