Thursday Book Teaser: Middlesex

Happy Thursday everyone! It's time for a little teaser from a book I'm currently reading. It's taking me longer then I wanted...but I should have it done and a review typed up for tomorrow. It's a good day to read, so maybe I'll get it done tonight. It's cloudy and windy and threatening to rain. ALSO, it's my day off and I have no ambition to adventure out of my den.

Page Number: 401

'From my birth when they went undetected, to my baptism where they upstaged the priest, to my troubled adolescence when they didn't do much of anything and then did everything at once, my genitals have been the most significant thing that ever happened to me. Some people inherit houses; others paintings or highly insured violin bows. Still others get a Japanese tansu or a famous name. I got a recessive gene on my fifth chromosome and some very rare family jewels indeed.

My parents had at first refused to believe the emergency room doctor's wild claim about my anatomy. The diagnosis, delivered over the phone to a largely uncomprehending Milton and then bowdlerized by him for Tessie's benefit, amounted to a vague concern about the formation of my urinary tract along with a possible hormonal deficiency. The doctor in Petoskey hadn't performed a karyotype. His job was to treat my concussion and contusions, and when he was done with that, he let me go.

My parents wanted a second opinion. At Milton's insistence I had been taken one last time to see Dr. Philobosian.'

Thursday Book Teaser: The Secrets of Casanova

Happy Thursday! Yet another rainy day over here. Thank goodness. I rather have the rain then the snow. Super tired of seeing that white stuff. *shakes head*

Anyways, I haven't done a TBT in a while, so I thought I would try to get back into the habit. ^.^ Maybe I'll try to get back to posting Cast that Book too. I'll try.

This week I'm going to share a teaser from 'The Secrets of Casanova':

~*~

'"The landlady has softened a bit. We have until noon tomorrow to be gone from here."

"Yes, time is crucial," Jacques muttered. He looked at Petrine. "Did you know Dominique intends to join a convent? 'Forbear, lady, forbear,' I bade her."

Petrine turned slowly toward Dominique, rolling his brown eyes in their sockets.

She frowned.

"I smell a skirmish," Petrine said, wagging his finger. "But I don't take sides. Believe me, I know how to hold my tongue."

"Hmm," replied Jacques, arching an eyebrow. He did not look at Dominique but stammered in her general direction. "I've asked this lady to delay her decision. For....just...until tomorrow."

"Until tomorrow?" asked Dominique.'

What are you guys reading?

Thursday Book Teaser: Gracianna

Happy Thursday everyone. How is everyone's week going? Mine has been sort of stressing this week. Sighs. However, things are looking up...maybe....we shall see.

For this week I'll be sharing a teaser for you from the book Gracianna by Trini Amador.

Starting Location: Paragraph 2

"The empty bar became very quiet and, as he stood just outside the door wavering, the last two couples got up and left on cue. There were hugs and kisses from couples, and 'au reviors' and light jackets and scarves, and lights going off in the kitchen and bartenders instantly pushing glasses and cloths across clean bars, while all looked at each other to see what Gracianna would do. Within four minutes, the place was dead, with music turned down and lights lowered as well. The 'last' bartender went out as Gracianna headed to her 'office' for supplies. It was all an act. She knew her fellow resisters were still close by.

Marceau, relieved, passed the officer coming back in as he walked out and made it clear, 'you are on your own,' as he gestured to the officer, 'no more drink.' The officer waved him off as inconsequential. Marceau just gave him the 'I'm tired, do as you wish' wave."

Thursday Book Teaser: Queen's Gambit

Happy Thursday everyone! A nice typical fall day outside today. Thank goodness. I was getting fearful fall would never arrive. However, it is here and I'm sipping on my warm apple cider.

Let us have a little teaser of 'Queen's Gambit' by Elizabeth Fremantle.

Page Number: 175
Location: First paragraph

"'With all due respect,' pipes up Hertfold, 'if we show too much leniency we are likely to have more trouble on our hands.'

'Most of these people have been in London for generations. They can't simply be got rid of,'counters Archbishop.
Thank God he is with her. Without Hertford, though, Katherine knows she will struggle to hold her position.
'I will write to the King on the matter,'She says firmly. 'For the present the emigres stay, and any who trouble them will be punished accordingly.'
Hertford will be gone in days. He is needed in France. She will have to sharpen her powers of persuasion with the council. She wonders again what would happen were the King not to return. She would be alone at the helm of England, protector of a child King; it is written in Henry's will. How could she continue this careful balancing act without her husband at her shoulder?"

Thursday Book Teaser: Betrayal

Happy Thursday everyone! I know its been some time since I've done a TBT, but I honestly had been lazy and been busy with life. >_< It's such a different world when you move out the parents house and on your own/living with Boyfriend. Instead of the chores being divided among three people, it is now divided between two. Fun stuff!

Anyways, today I'll be sharing a little snipbit from 'Betrayal' by Sandra Schwab.

Page Number: 75% into the ebook
Paragraph: 3

"Ashburnham shook his head. 'You excite yourself over nothing, my lady, 'he said brusquely, and brushed past the dowager countess to go to Georgina. 'I see you have had a chance to refresh yourself.' His expression gentled. 'I hope you have found everything to your liking. Why don't you sit down?' He offered her his arm. Flabbergasted, she let him lead her to a chair. 'I will ring for tea.'

'Tea?' his mother gasped.

'Tea,' he repeated through gritted teeth. 'And we will talk about this like rational beings.'

'You must be out of your mind, Ashburnham!'

'Indeed, I assure you I am not, my lady,' he said, impatience harshening his voice. 'It was ill judgement on your part to send the constable after Georgiana. You might have meant well - '

'Of course, I - '

'But something like that won't happen again,' he overrode the dowager countess. 'So we will all sit down and talk about this situation and find a solution to it.'"

The constable? A little extreme in MY opinion. hahahaha.

Thursday Book Teaser: The Age of Desire

Happy Thursday everyone! I can't believe it is already August! Where the Hell is my summer going? Holy crap! Hahaha. I can't believe Fall semester will be starting next month. Ewwwwwwwwwwwww. Well, I hope you all are having an excellent summer out there!

Well, today I shall shall a little snipbit from 'The Age of Desire' by Jennie Fields. This book is about Edith Wharton.

Page Number: 175
Location on Page: Second paragraph

"'Well,' he says.

Edith is mortified. She stands, her knees quaking. 'Not here. That's all I'm saying...'

'Sometimes you are an awful lot of effort.'

'I'm sorry.' She closes her eyes, remorseful. 'I didn't mean to hurt you. Did I hurt you?'

He glares at her, not answering. 'HR is coming soon. You understand?' He says.

Her lips quiver.
'Then we'll have no time alone together....even if he does approve of our enchevetrement romantique.'

'Just not here. Not here at Harry's.'

'And then you sail. 'Not here'. It's an excuse, you know. It's an excuse because you have no heart.'

'I do have a heart...' In fact, she feels it sinking, clanking away from her like a rock down a well. She must know him better, feel closer to him before she can feel close in that other way."

A little trouble in paradise I feel is ahead of me in my reading. Ooooooooooh.

Thursday Book Teaser: The Ashford Affair

Happy Thursday everyone! How is everyone doing? I'm doing okay. I have today off and I'm relaxing until about 5:30 my time...why? Well, I'm getting another tattoo today! ^.^ It's been nearly about three years since I got my little tattoo. I'm super nervous. Well I tell you what I am getting? No...this shall be a surprise and I will post a couple pictures. ^.^ Eeeek! Nervous I am!

Anyways....

This week I'm going to share a little tease from Lauren Willig's new-ish book 'The Ashford Affair'.

Page number: 125
Location on page: paragraph 1

"There was something strangely familiar about her. Not the expression, but the facial features. Clemmie knew she had seen her before, but in a different setting, with a different tone. She gasped after the memory.

Paul drew in his breath in a long hiss. "You know who that is, don't you?"

"Bea," Said Clemmie, realizing suddenly where she had seen her before. It was the woman in Granny Addie's drawer.

Paul looked at her as though she were stupid. "What? That's the owner," said Paul impatiently, in a whisper that wasn't. "The Marquess of Rivesdale."

"Huh?" Clemmie came down with a crash from her own thoughts. "Where?"

"There." Paul nodded to the far side of the room, where a man had paused to say hello to the two elderly ladies, bending to kiss one of them on the cheek. He had changed out of his gray flannels and into the regulation black and white of evening wear, but Clemmie recognized him as the man...."

AND boom. I could go no further in fear of creating a HUGE spoiler. ^.^

Thursday Book Teaser: The Forever Queen

Happy Thursday everyone!! How is everyone doing? I'm doing alright....the heat is killing me though. Gaaaaaaah. I hate summer so much. I hate the hot and humidness. >.< I like fall and spring. Not too hot, not too cold. Perfect.

Well, today I'll be sharing a little snipbit from 'The Forever Queen' by Helen Hollick. Been meaning to read this one for a while now.

Page Number: It's an ebook, so it is on 2%
Place on Page: Paragraph 2

"'It seems they approve of you, girl. Not that it matters, the populace detested my mother. It made not the slightest difference to her; she cared nothing for them either. Nor for my father. Still, it helps to be liked.'

Emma understood one or two of his words, as for the rest - ah, well, perhaps they were not important.

Inside the cathedral, her shoes, expensive leather slippers, scuffed gently on the red and black patchwork of the tiles that led from the great western door to the altar steps. Prestigious men dipped their heads as she passed by, her hand resting lightly on
Ã†thelred's arm, the women sinking into deep curtsies....."

Thursday Book Teaser: Innocent Traitor

Happy Thursday everyone! The sunny is out again and I'm loving it even though I'm dying at work. Haha. Well, for this week I'm going to share a little tease from 'Innocent Traitor' by Alison Weir.

Page Number: 177

"So I am called back into the birthing chamber, which is fetid with the stench of sweat and blood. The Queen lies on her disarranged bed, her hair damp and tangled, her face drawn with suffering. She sees nothing; she is withdrawn to a place where we cannot reach her. Her cries are mere moans now, for her strength is failing.

I am called upon to bathe her hot brow and watch in shocked fascination as Mrs. Odell instructs Lady Tyrwhitt to take one of Katherine's legs, and Lady Lane the other. They try to cooperate, but the Queen, despite her failing strength, manages to kick them away."

Thursday Book Teaser: His Forbidden Kiss

A weekly meme created by Carole (me) to share excerpts and book teasers from books. Anyone can join, just make sure not to give away any spoilers.

Happy Thursday everyone. How is everyone's week? Mine has been busy....as usual lately. I've managed to calm down the beast of school a little. I have a system going, so all is well for the moment.

Well, this week I'm going to share a random tease from the random book I picked up at the library. I was bored and wasting time, so I just randomly picked up this book. I've been contemplating creating some meme or something that promotes just randomly picking up a book and reading it without even really reading the back of it. Go in cold-turkey. Mhmmm. What do you all think?

Page number: 228
Starting at: Second paragraph

"'Perhaps, Your Majesty,' he answered warily.
'Oh, come, come, Mr. Harding! You are reckoned a very clever and dutiful solicitor, and Mr. Burroughs is merely a silk merchant, no matter how many airs he puts on. We think you would stand an excellent chance, especially if his niece already loves you. Therefore, we shall be delighted to help you.'
'Help us, Your Majesty?'"

That is all...for a huge spoiler is near the horizon, I reckon.

Thursday Book Teaser: The Colonel's Lady

A weekly meme created by Carole (me) to share excerpts and book teasers from books. Anyone can join, just make sure not to give away any spoilers.

Happy Thursday everyone. Yet again Michigan is throwing me through a loop. It was raining yesterday and in the 50s, but now it's snowing and in the 20s. >.> I can't wait for winter to be over. Anyways....this week I'll be sharing a little teaser from The Colonel's Lady by Laura Frantz.

Page Number: 48
Starting at: random spot on the page

"Roxanna shut the trunk with a bang as if doing so could shut away the memory, but felt she'd slammed her finger in the lid instead. Even the slightest reminder stung, though she'd tried her best to forget. Indeed, she'd come downriver four hundred miles to escape it, all the way to this frightening place. She should have pitched the hat in the Ohio River along the way, but as it was her favorite, she didn't.

Lying down on the freshly made bed, she smiled at the rustle of the corn-husk tick, thinking of the feather on she'd left behind. Truly, her new life here on the far frontier hardly held one reminder of her old one. At home, in their small stone house, she'd had a fine four-poster bed with plump pillows and a calico cat that slept at her feet, rag rugs on polished pine floors, a clothespress scented with rose sachet. All such amenities were missing here. Thinking it left her feeling a bit hollow.

But, she decided, the wilderness was a fine antidote to all her regrets. Soon, very soon, she and Papa would leave this inhospitable place and be on their way to a new home. A new life. She needn't think again of Ambrose or the future she might have had......"

Thursday Book Teaser

A weekly meme created by Carole (me) to share excerpts and book teasers from books. Anyone can join, just make sure not to give away any spoilers.

Happy Thursday everyone. I know its been quite a while since I've done a TBT here on the good ol' blog. I'm not sure why, but I'm pretty sure I was finishing books before the day and/or I had not ambition to actually type this up. The last two months of 2012 I was a bad, bad kid. :( Oh well. It's a new year and I'm back with a vengeance!!!!! MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *clears throat* Sorry about that.....here's the book teaser I have for this week.....

This week I'll share a small little bit from Past Lives: An Investigation into Reincarnation Memories by Peter & Elizabeth Fenwick. It's pretty interesting so far. I've always believed in reincarnation and this gives both sides of the coin to the belief of rebirth; non-believers and believers. I'll just flip to a random pages...this little teaser is talking about and thinking about when people have flashes of their past lives in dreams.

Page number: 93
Staring at: paragraph 2

"...Such dreams certainly have a reincarnation 'feel' about them, but what makes people who have them believe that they are anything more than ordinary dreams? Is there in fact anything different about them at all? People who have these dreams describe them as being more vivid and real than their ordinary dreams. They lack the bizarre quality of an ordinary dream, and they are often recurrent, so that each time the same scene is played, and each tine the person wakes from it at the same point in the dream. Often these dreams start in childhood and become less frequent as the person grows older, sometimes ceasing altogether."

Thursday Book Teaser

HAPPY DAY AFTER HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it is the day after Halloween, but I shall still use this image. ^.^

How was everyone's Halloween? Mine was alright...I had work, but afterwards my co-workers threw a mini-party. It was fun. At work I dressed as the demon who cursed the Detroit Lions. I wore a Lions hoodie and blue devil horns. I looked cute and people thought it was funny. No pictures though because I'm feeling kruddy and I simply forgot.

This week I'm sharing an excerpt of The Dark Highlander by Karen Marie Moning. It's an excerpt from the author, so random is the theme for this week.

"Each day was a battle to accomplish three things: use only what magic was absolutely necessary; despite the ever-growing temptation, toop hard and fast and frequently, and continue collecting and searching the tomes wherein might he the answer to his all-consuming question.
Was there a way to get rid of the dark ones?
If not... well, if not...
He raked a hand through his hair and blew out a deep breath. Eyes narrowed, he watched the lights flickering beyond the park, while behind him, on the couch, the lass slept the dreamless sleep of the utterly exhausted. On the morrow, dark circles would mar the delicate hollows beneath her eyes, etching her features with beguiling fragility. His bed play took a toll on a woman.
Two nights past, Katie had wet her lips and oh-so-casually remarked that he seemed to be waiting for something.
He'd smiled and rolled her onto her stomach. Kissed her sweet, warm, and willing body from head to toe. Dragged his tongue over every inch, then taken her, ridden her, and when he'd finished with her she'd been crying with pleasure.
She'd either forgotten her question or had thought better of it. Katie O'Malley was not a fool. She knew there was more to him than she really wanted to know. She wanted him for sex, nothing more. Which was well and fine, because he was incapable of more.
I wait for my brother; lass, he hadn't said. I wait for the day Drustan wearies of my refusal to return to Scotland. For the day his wife is not so pregnant that he fears to leave her side. For the day he finally acknowledges what he already knows in his heart, though he so desperately clings to my lies: that I am dark as the night sky with but a few starlike flickers of light left within me.
0ch, aye, he was waiting for the day his twin brother would cross the ocean and come for him.
See him for the animal he was
If he permitted that day to arrive, he knew one of them would die."

Thursday Book Teaser: The Iron Duke

A weekly meme created by Carole (me) to share excerpts and book teasers from books. Anyone can join, just make sure not to give away any spoilers.

Happy Thursday everyone! The weekend is nearly here and Halloween is right around the corner! So instead of my usual TBT meme picture, I'll temporarily use a Halloween version of the old one. hehehe. I am really getting into the spirit this year. I even have a great costume I'm wearing. No, not Anne Boleyn (never had a chance to save enough money due to my lack of a job for a while), but Marie Antoinette. I won't be able to wear it to work (*sighs*), but I'm wearing it to a Halloween party in November. Odd, but it works! I'm reusing my dress that I wore long ago at my sweet 16. It'll be big, because I was 30lbs heavier, but oh well. There are ties on it, so it'll fit. ^.^ I also plan on this time around as Marie to be a little morbid perhaps. I'm contemplating using red makeup around the neck of where she lost her head to the guillotine. Perhaps I'll be The Ghost of Marie Antoinette.

Not every original though....mmmmm...maybe I'll be Princess Lambelle or Madame du Barry. ^.^ For the latter I can go nuts! I'll wear a ton of jewelry and be skanky. Lots of ideas! Maybe I'll just be a witch. Nah...I have been a witch twice already..........

Sorry for the rant...here is my book teaser for 'The Iron Duke' by Meljean Brook. I've barely broken the cover, so this teaser is a teaser for me too. In honor of Halloween and all the spooky stuff, I've picked page 66 starting at sentence 6. Of course you can pick your own starting point, but here we go!

Page #: 66
Starting at sentence: 6

"Remembering that, Mina's anger built into resolution. What could Trahaern to do her family that Horde hadn't already done? Nothing. And her family had always fought back, always survived. The only danger he posed was to Mina's person and her career - but no matter the damage he caused, she would survive that, too.

She looked up. The rood of the lift had almost reached the next floor. The duke still hadn't spoken. Her tension began to loosen its grip. Had she mistaken his intentions, then? Perhaps he just hadn't wanted to be crowded.

Metal scraped, and the lift jolted to a halt. Mina stumbled forward before catching her balance - and realized that he'd timed it perfectly. They'd stopped halfway between floors. The lift's roof concealed them from above, and if anyone entered the corridor below, the gate blocked the view of the lift's interior.

Damn him. Damn him."

Oooooooh. Can't wait to see what happens next! What are you guys wearing this Halloween (or at any event in honor of the this lovely holiday)?

Thursday Book Teaser: Northanger Abbey

A weekly meme created by Carole (me) to share excerpts and book teasers from books. Anyone can join, just make sure not to give away any spoilers.

Happy Thursday everyone! It's almost the weekend! I'm really excited for Friday, because it is my first day of classroom observation. I'll be setting in a classroom and observing the students and especially the teacher for 20 hours. What makes it even more exciting is that my first school is an alternative school. ^.^ That's the teaching I would like to do: help the outcasts get the education they deserve in an environment that is there for them. I can't wait to run my own classroom.

Well this week I'll be sharing a teaser from Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey. This time I just randomly flipped to a random page. I closed my eyes and let my finger land on a random spot.

Page Number: 92
Sentence beginning at: starting at paragraph 4

"This bold surmise, however, she soon learnt comprehended but half the fact. The anxious affection, which she was accused of having continually watched in Isabella's every look and action, had, in the course of their yesterday's party, received the delightful confession of an equal love. Her heart and faith were alike engaged to James - Never had Catherine listened to any thing so full interest, wonder, and joy....."

I would continue but a big spoiler lay in the next couple of sentences! haha.

A Late Thursday Book Teaser

Thursday Book Teaser is a Carole-version of all the other book teaser memes out there. Every Thursday, I'll share a little tease of a book I'm currently reading. I'll randomly pick a page or I'll give some random number and flip to that page. I'll just share a few sentences to try and tease you. Anyone can join in! Just remember ...no spoilers! By the way this picture I found on Google and edited it myself.

So sorry for this being extremely late! The automatic posting thing failed *shakes fist at blogger* and then for some reason my internet wasn't working ALL DAY, so I couldn't get on and fix it. Gah! *shakes fist at internet*

Well finally got this post to look right. I do apologize to Holden Robinson for it looking crappy last time. I sent the email I received to a different email account and then downloaded it to me computer. Then I had to edit each line and blahblahblah.... Volia! It now looks fine. Damn technology.

Well, here's the book excerpt of Becoming Mona Lisa by Holden Robinson. This was given to me from CM:

"My mother once told me if I looked at my reflection long enough, my
features would become obscure, and I would gradually become a Picasso. I never
asked how long it would take, this transition from me to something I didn't
recognize. It may be minutes for some. In my case, it took a few years.
 Thirty-four to be exact.

I guess it wasn't that I'd become a Picasso. I guess I'd
become more of a pooka. A pooka is an invisible creature, like the rabbit in the
old movie, Harvey, starring the incomparable Jimmy Stewart.

The distinct difference between me, and the pooka known as Harvey, was
Harvey had always been invisible. I hadn't. I'd simply disappeared. Over time.

I watched Harvey repeatedly, long before I understood the similarities I'd one
day share with the big, white rabbit.

I loved the rabbit, but I loved Jimmy Stewart even more. Every year, at
Christmas, I'd hunker down with my mother, father, and my beloved Aunt
Ida, and we'd watch It's a Wonderful Life, and string popcorn for the tree. Aunt
Ida would watch through cataracts, I through tears, and by time the credits rolled, I'd be
emotionally spent, and Aunt Ida would have half a bowl of Orville Redenbacher's
sewn to her skirt.

My mother, ever the teacher, would turn the movie's message into a lesson, one
of many she'd pass along, and it was her voice I'd most often heard in my head
as I battled my darkest days.

“Wear good shoes, Mona.”

“Wear good underwear, in case you crash your car, Mona.”

“Never miss an opportunity to tell someone you love them, Mona.”
I guess two out of three ain't bad. I wear good shoes, and good underwear.
It's the third one I screwed up.

Big time.

I was thinking of this as I pulled into my driveway on a Sunday evening, after
an uneventful shift at WalMart. My old Jeep emitted a familiar groan as we
pulled into the driveway that was once smooth, and now felt like driving a Radio
Flyer down a washboard. I shut off the ignition and we both sighed. The old truck
and the unhappy wife. I labored up the sidewalk onto the porch. My feet crossed
the fifty-year-old timbers, and the wood moaned beneath my treading. A
stranger's reflection stared back at me from the single-pane window, as my hand
sought the rusty knob. I opened the door and crossed the threshold, into the
abyss that had become my life.

I stood in the foyer and kicked off my shoes. The linoleum
was cool beneath my feet, and the loneliness seeped in almost instantly, as if it had
been there waiting. It was familiar, this sense of emptiness.

“Comfort in the evil you know,” I once read on the jacket of a book about bad
marriages. I had come to a formidable crossroads, left with the choice of
saving my marriage, or killing my husband, but advancements in forensics had
made it impossible to kill anyone and get away with it, so I got myself a
library card, and checked out every book ever written on how to mend
what seemed unmendable. I returned them all, three weeks later. Unread.

“I'm home,” I called to a silent house. “Tom? You here?”

“I'm in the kitchen, Mona,” came the response from the roommate who was
my husband.
“What are you doing?” I asked, finding Tom Siggs at the kitchen table, his nose
in a crossword puzzle.

“Same old, same old. How was work?” he asked, as our eyes met, as a
recognition almost occurred between two idiots in a relationship dying of boredom.

“It was like work,” I said.

“Work usually is,” Tom replied, his gaze back on the paper.

“Dinner?” I asked.

“Dinner?” Tom repeated.

“The meal you eat at night, Tom.”

“I know what dinner is, Mona.”

“Did you want some?”

“I'll light the grill.”

“Awesome,” I said, with no enthusiasm.

Tom left his paper in the waning sunlight, and I took his chair. It was still
warm, and I felt sadness and heat creep into my body, joining the loneliness
that had settled there. It was almost like being touched by him, but not, yet
it was the closest thing I'd had to a connection with my husband in as long as
I could remember.

I looked at the man who stood outside my back door. A man who was once
a stranger, then my friend, my lover, my husband, a stranger. A perfect circle,
one Dante would appreciate.

What happened?

It was a question without an answer, a complex equation with an elusive
solution, one that could be found over time, if either of us were willing to make
the investment. We weren't.

“I'm troubled about something, Mona.”"

Sorry about being late with this post. I completely forgot about it yesterday. I was so busy with work and then coming home to do chores and whatnot for my bonfire on Saturday. I'm surprised I remembered today to have this posted! Oh well. ^.^ At least I remembered.

This week I'll be sharing a little teaser from 'To Catch a Wolf' by Susan Krinard. I literally flipped to a random page, then closed my eyes and let my finger land on a random word/sentence to start on.

Page number: 234
Starting at Sentence: 8

"...The full weight of Niall's threats pushed Athena deep into the chair, paralyzed her will as the accident had stilled her legs. She could see no way out. If she defied Niall, she would lose everything - all she had worked for, the funding for her charities, the ball, her place in Denver....and Morgan's life as well...."

That's all I'm going to tease you guys with...I feel like a major spoiler lies behind this and I don't want to spoil anything for you or for me (I'm WAAAAY near the beginning).

Thursday Book Teaser #7: Through a Glass Darkly

Thursday Book Teaser is a Carole-version of all the other book teaser memes out there. Every Thursday, I'll share a little tease of a book I'm currently reading. I'll randomly pick a page or I'll give some random number and flip to that page. I'll just share a few sentences to try and tease you. Anyone can join in! Just remember ...no spoilers! Happy Thursday everyone! How is everyone doing? The weekend is nearly here, so don't you all fret! Well, my luck has not changed. I'm still fighting the State of Michigan for my right of unemployment. The ball is in their court right now (ha), but by the time they grant me my unemployment money, I'll probably be working again. *sighs*

Well, I am half tempted to drag myself to Taco Bell and see if they'll re-hire me. The old General Manager isn't there anymore, so maybe I'll actually like it there. At the Grand Opening of Shopko I ran into an old work buddy from Taco Bell. We talked a while and she half convinced me to give Taco Bell a shot. "What can it hurt?" She said to me. I left them on decent turns (I only gave them a week notice instead of two), so perhaps the new General Manager will give me a shot. I'm not sure. I'm still keeping my hopes up for the receptionist position at a law firm or a hosting job at Silver Grill. I would really prefer one of those two. However, in this economy I can not be picky.

Sorry for the rant above, but I needed to get it off my chest and put my feelings into words. I'll be talking more about it on my other blog; which I've highly neglected. You can click THIS and be transported there. It's just a personal blog I created a while ago. ANYWAYS, shall we get with the teasing?

This week I'll be sharing a snipbit from Through a Glass Darkly by Karleen Koen.

"...'No! Do not deny it, Roger. Tell me you fallen madly in love.'

Roger shook his head, amused rather than irritated by Carlyle's theatrics. Tomorrow, he knew, various rounds of conversion would be repeated in the coffeehouses, and by evening in the drawing rooms. It was inevitable.

'All I know,'Carlyle was saying, 'is that I must see this vision for myself. Not that I will. Diana despises me. When is the happy bridal?'

'I leave that to the lawyers and my prospective bride's family. I simply want the affair settled before I go to France so that I may leave some instructions with my bankers. I would like to start building roads by spring-'

'France! Roads! Spring! Do stop and explain yourself, dear boy. You will leave this treasure behind? A honeymoon in France would be quite romance.'

'I am too old for romance. And she is only a child. She can wait. The regent has invited me to Carnival, and I find myself yearning to see Paris, and so to visit the homes of my friends there. And Italy beckons. Burlington has just come from there. He says the villas are magnificent. I want to build the most beautiful house London has ever seen. Before Burlington does.'

'Then you ought to know that one hears Lady Saylor has had the land surveyed.'

Roger had been relaxed in his chair. Now he straightened up. Several different emotions chased themselves quickly across his face. Carlyle waited with interest; he loved to watch Roger's face....."
