One of my audiobook sync freebies.

I had a hard time warming up to Maya. She has only been deaf for 3 years, but she is making it her entire personality. And since she has been dead only since she was 14 she should remember that people are stupid and do not know things. So when she gets pissed of when people find out she can talk, maybe just tell them and not storm off. Also when a friend thinks they are being helpful to tell you about implants, tell them why you do not want them, also it felt like she looked down on those who got them. Like they were not true deafs. I felt like I could have understood it better if she had been dead longer, but it was 3 years. She should remember what she felt herself 3 years ago. 

Also this boy learns sign language in record time and she does not get it is cos of her. No one else makes an effort, take a hint.

But it was was educating to see her navigate a hearing school, and darker things like not hearing when her brother is in trouble. 

In the end I felt mostly sorry for the mum. Working herself to death, and her young son has cystic fibrosis. She is a single mum, and she has a teen too. Also tons of medical bills. Poor mum.

Good book with deaf representation. I like how it was written so we could hear how they talk in sign language.

Good narration

Deaf teen Maya moves across the country and must attend a hearing school for the first time. As if that wasn’t hard enough, she also has to adjust to the hearing culture, which she finds frustrating - and also surprising when some classmates, including Beau Watson, take time to learn ASL. As Maya looks past graduation and focuses on her future dreams, nothing, not even an unexpected romance, will derail her pursuits. But when people in her life - Deaf and hearing alike - ask her to question parts of her Deaf identity, Maya stands proudly, never giving in to the idea that her Deafness is a disadvantage.
