I Find No Peace & All My War is Done

Happy Saturday everyone. Things are slowing done around here. There was a change in plans and now I am moved in with Boyfriend. Strange and odd. hahaha. Oh well. All my things (except for one box that we forgot) are now here. I just have to unpack, which I started a little yesterday. Yayy!

In my old room I had a few poems written up and displayed on my wall. To be kind I took only one poem and will display it at his apartment (for now). I picked this one. My ultimate favorite of Sir Thomas Wyatt.

I Find No Peace
by: Sir Thomas Wyatt

I FIND no peace, and all my war is done ;
I fear and hope, I burn, and freeze like
      ice ;
I fly aloft, yet can I not arise ;
And nought I have, and all the world I seize on,
That locks nor loseth, holdeth me in prison,
And holds me not, yet can I scape no wise :
Nor lets me live, nor die, at my devise,
And yet of death it giveth me occasion.
Without eye I see ; without tongue I plain :
I wish to perish, yet I ask for health ;
I love another, and thus I hate myself ;
I feed me in sorrow, and laugh in all my pain.
    Lo, thus displeaseth me both death and life,
    And my delight is causer of this strife.

These Bloody Days Have Broken My Heart
by: Thomas Wyatt

Who list his wealth and ease retain,
Himself let him unknown contain.
Press not too fast in at that gate
Where the return stands by disdain:
For sure, circa regna tonat.

The high mountains are blasted oft
When the low valley is mild and soft.
Fortune with Health stands at debate.
The fall is grievous from aloft.
And sure, circa regna tonat.

These bloody days have broken my heart.
My lust, my youth did then depart,
And blind desire of estate.
Who hastes to climb seeks to revert.
Of truth, circa regna tonat.

The Bell Tower showed me such sight
That in my head sticks day and night.
There did I learn of of a grate
For all favor, glory, or might,
That yet circa regna tonat.

By proof, I say, there did I learn:
Wit helpeth not defense to yerne,
Of innocence to plead or prate.
Bear low, therefore, give God the stern,
For sure, circa regna tonat.

The Lover Unhappy Biddeth Happy by Thomas Wyatt

More poetry? Yes, yes. ^.^

YET that in love find luck and sweet abun-
        dance,
   And live in lust of joyful jollity,
Arise for shame, do way your sluggardy :
Arise, I say, do May some observance.
Let me in bed lie dreaming in mischance ;
Let me remember my mishaps unhappy,
That me betide in May most commonly ;
As one whom love list little to advance.
Stephan1 said true, that my nativity
Mischanced was with the ruler of May.
He guessed (I prove) of that the verity.
In May my wealth, and eke my wits,2 I say,
    Have stond so oft in such perplexity :
    Joy ; let me dream of your felicity.

The Lively Sparks by Thomas Wyatt

THE lively sparks that issue from those eyes,
   Against the which there vaileth no
        defence,
Have pierced my heart, and done it none offence,
With quaking pleasure more than once or twice.
Was never man could any thing devise,
Sunbeams to turn with so great vehemence
To daze man's sight, as by their bright presence
Dazed am I ; much like unto the guise
Of one stricken with dint of lightning,
Blind with the stroke, and cying here and there :
So call I for help, I not when nor where,
The pain of my fall patiently bearing :
    For straight after the blaze, as is no wonder,
    Of deadly noise hear I the fearful thunder.

And Wilt Thou Leave Me Thus? - Thomas Wyatt

I didn't originally plan to post anything today, but I decided to share this Thomas Wyatt poem. Why? Well, for one I love Thomas Wyatt and his poems/odes/etc. Second, today in my Oral Communications class we have to select any reading and read it to the class today. I had no clue what to read! I had so many ideas, but I couldn't decide on just one.

As I was walking out of my Compoistion II class the line "And have no more pity, Of him that loveth thee" popped into my head. I wasn't even thinking about Thomas Wyatt or anything related to poetry (I was actually thinking about my position paper I have to do for Comp). It kind of shocked me. That was the deciding factor. I'll be reading 'And Wilt Thou Leave Me Thus' by Thomas Wyatt:

"AND wilt thou leave me thus ?
  Say nay !  say nay !  for shame
  To save thee from the blame
Of all my grief and grame.1
And wilt thou leave me thus ?
Say nay ! Say nay !

    And wilt thou leave me thus ?
That hath lov'd thee so long ?
In wealth and woe among :
And is thy heart so strong
As for to leave me thus ?
Say nay ! Say nay !

    And wilt thou leave me thus ?
That hath given thee my heart
Never for to depart ;
Neither for pain nor smart :
And wilt thou leave me thus ?
Say nay ! Say nay !

    And wilt thou leave me thus ?
And have no more pity,
Of him that loveth thee ?
Alas !  thy cruelty !
And wilt thou leave me thus ?
Say nay ! Say nay !"

I'm so nervous, but this isn't the first time I've read this to an audience, so I should be fine. Buuuuut, wish me luck anyways! ^.^

My dream man.

PS- My blog will be having a new look anyday now! So...don't be too shocked! I already updated and changed the 'Books and Reviews" page. I love change.
