Review:
Finally decided to continue on reading this branch of the series. Too many book, so little time in life!

This follows our Duke Wrexham and Eleanora who is an auditor at a bank. Rex is overrun by family obligations....3 sisters, a legion of cousins, and his own dukedom. Some things have fallen to the wayside. When he finally carves out some time to evaluate his family's finances, he learns that his dukedom is on the verge of a social catastrophe. Enters Eleanora. She has an uncanny knack for numbers. When Rex comes knocking on the door of her employer, she decides that she can help...reluctantly at first. What starts out as an unwanted assignment soon leads to forbidden kisses and impossible longings. However, Eleanora has a past and family that makes it impossible for her to love the duke and be his duchess.

I like Rex and I like Eleanora. They are both very sweet, kind, and smart. They both deserve all the happiness in the world. However, I didn't buy their love at first. It took a long time to see them as compatible. Sure lust can work for anyone, but the love? That took a while for them and for me honestly.

I did enjoy them becoming friends and seeing him be fascinated by Ellie and her smart brain. She is whip smart. Both from just being good at numbers and from experience. She isn't a great beauty and I'm happy for it. She is average and nerdy and I loved it. It gets so exhausting seeing the gorgeous star always bag the duke. It's nice seeing someone like me get the man.

But yes, there are some baddies afoot. And the reveal at the end will make you mad. That person deserves more than what they got.

The ending needed more. I would've liked to see them on their wedding day maybe or something. Maybe we'll see them in the next. I want to see Ellie outsmart the stupid ones in the ton.

The narrator is always fantastic. Literally a king of this genre.

What more to say? This was very sweet. Lots of talking, some math, and a friendship and lust that turns to love. I'll give this 4 stars.

Book Review: A Rogue of Her Own by Grace Burrowes

Author: Grace Burrowes
Title: A Rogue of Her Own
Series: Windham Brides #4
Genre: Historical Romance
Format: ebook
Pages: 379
Published: March 6, 2018
Where I Got It: Borrowed from library

Summary:
For Miss Charlotte Windham, the best way to maintain her spinsterhood - and her independence - is a teeny, tiny brush with scandal. She chooses wealthy, handsome upstart Lucas Sherbourne as her unwitting accomplice. He's intelligent, logical, and ambitious. What Charlotte doesn't count on is that one kiss will lead them straight to the altar.

Sherbourne has no love for polite society, nor is he keen on being anybody's husband of last resort. He is attracted to Charlotte's boldness, though - and her family's influence. Without a title, he knows he'll never truly be part of their world, even as he and Charlotte inch closer to a marriage that means much more than convenience. But a scheming business partner is about to test that tenuous trust, forcing Sherbourne to make a drastic choice: his wealth or his wife.

Review:
After the last one...I was warned I wouldn't like this one since I was meh about Charlotte too. However, I pushed forward since this is the last book of this series and this part of the family.

Charlotte wants to maintain her spinsterhood and be free. All she needs is a teeny, tiny brush with scandal. She chooses Lucas Sherbourne to be her unwitting accomplice. However, she doesn't count on that one kiss would lead them to the altar instead. Lucas has no love for polite society since he is "new money" and he isn't keen on the idea of being a husband. However, he finds he can't stay away from Charlotte. She is bold and though. He doesn't seem to mind being her husband. However, a scheming business partner is about to test that trust between them. He will have to make a drastic choice...his wealth or his wife.

I'm glad I pushed forward and read this one. I actually ended up liking Charlotte quite a bit. Getting to know her and her reasons for how she acts...it all made sense. She has some secrets and a friend who was burned by "love". I'll keep all that a secret ;) But yes. After learning more about her, I grew to adore her.

I liked Lucas too once I got to know him. He was meh at first and he was sort of a villain in the last book, but I grew to like him too.

They were married pretty quickly, but the love took a while. They instantly liked each other and there was some lust, but the love and trust were hard-earned and hard-kept. They had to talk and work on it. ESPECIALLY with certain events.

I honestly do not think I have read these book series in the right order. There are loads of other books about other family members...but I personally didn't feel like I was missing anything. Sure a couple references, but it worked. I do want to read more about the other Windhams.

Overall, I really enjoyed this. It actually ended up being my favorite of these four books! Did NOT expect that at all since Charlotte was just so annoying. I loved watching these two fall in love...and I loved that I grew to adore them. I'll give this 5 stars.

Audiobook Review: No Other Duke Will Do by Grace Burrowes

Author: Grace Burrowes
Narrator: James Langton
Title: No Other Duke Will Do
Series: Windham Brides #3
Genre: Historical Romance
Format: Audiobook
Published: November 7, 2017

Summary:
Julian St. David, Duke of Haverford, is barely keeping his head above water in a sea of inherited debts. Though he has a long-term plan to restore the family finances, his sister has a much faster solution: host a house party for London's single young ladies and find Julian a wealthy bride.

Elizabeth Windham has no interest in marriage, but a recent scandal has forced her hand. As much as she'd rather be reading Shakespeare than husband-hunting, she has to admit she's impressed by Julian's protective instincts, broad shoulders, and, of course, his vast library.

As the two spend more time together, their attraction is overwhelming, unexpected... and absolutely impossible. With meddling siblings, the threat of financial ruin, and gossips lurking behind every potted palm, will they find true love or true disaster?

Review:
Been meaning to get started on this one, but I've been busy busy.

Here we continue with these Windhams. Elizabeth is next. She has no interest in marriage. All she wants to do is read and live her life, but due to a recent scandal, she may have no other choice. Julian St. David, Duke of Haverford, is barely keeping his head above water when he inherits family debits. He has a long-term plan to restore the finances, but his sister has a much faster solution...he should host a party for London's single young ladies and find himself a rich bride.

There must be something wrong with me????? I like this author a lot. I adore the narrator too. Elizabeth a book nerd and she seems like someone I would like/relate to. Julian is very sweet and a Duke so win-win. They actually talk a lot and get to know each other. There is some drama, but not too much. It all sounds perfect, but....I was bored. Super bored. I found myself just letting this play even if I wasn't in the room. I would go to the kitchen or bathroom and not care to pause or take my phone with me.

I just wanted this to end. I found myself speeding this up just to finally be done. Sighs. I wanted to DNF, but I couldn't get myself to do that to this author or to the series. I still want to read the next one, so I forced myself forward.

Honestly? I'm not 100% sure why I didn't connect with this and...care. Maybe it was too perfect? I have zero answers.

The ending epilogue was very sweet though. So that made me smile.

In the end...this wasn't for me. I was just so bored. I still want to read the next one so I forced myself to push through. It did have good characters and a very sweet ending. Plus the narrator is amazing, but not even he could keep my attention. I'll give this 2 stars.

As the two draw closer and begin to lose their hearts to each other, Anna's secrets threaten to bring the earl's orderly life crashing down - and he doesn't know how he's going to protect her from the fallout...

Review:
I adore this author and I have never had an issue with her books so I've been itching to start this series. I think I may have read one later on in the series....who can remember!

Here we follow Gayle Windham who is the first legitimate son and heir of the Duke of Moreland. His father is pressuring him to marry and make an heir. To escape him, Windham decides to spend the summer at his townhouse in London. There is finds himself intrigued by the secretive ways of his housekeeper. Anna is a mystery indeed. She is not only beautiful, but she is talented, smart, and seems to be hiding something. As the summer goes on the two become closer and begin to lose their hearts to each other. However, Anna's secret threatens to bring chaos to both of their heads.

I was hooked from page one. I really had some doubts about this couple and I was curious how they were going to make it work. Normally men of his station don't look twice at the help. If they do... it's normally a tumble in the sheets and that is it. I had my doubts. BUT the author stripped away those doubts.

Yessss there is insta-lust. But he seems genuinely intrigued by her and wants to get to know her. That melted my heart. He was so very kind to her. Loved that.

I liked Anna and her secret was not THAT bad. Sure, yes, bad, but it had multiple ways to solve. I wish she had come to him sooner.

Speaking of that...my one and only issue was how long it took things. This seemed to ramble on and on. And Anna was SO stubborn and refused to marry him even though it was clear how much they loved each other. I wanted to smack her!!!!!! Idiot girl. The guy loves you and you love him. It would solve pretty much all the issues 100000%. SIGHS.

Overall, I did enjoy this quite a bit. I liked our characters...even the side characters were fun! My only issue was how long this was. It seemed to drag on and the secret reveal was annoying. But yes, this was a nice read! I'll give this 4 stars.

Audiobook Review: When a Duchess Says I Do by Grace Burrowes

Author: Grace Burrowes
Narrator: James Langton
Title: When a Duchess Says I Do
(Rogues to Riches #2)
Genre: Historical Romance, Mystery
Format: Audiobook
Published:  April 2nd 2019

Summary:
Duncan Wentworth tried his hand at rescuing a damsel in distress once long ago, and he's vowed he'll never make that mistake again. Nonetheless, when he comes across Matilda Wakefield in the poacher-infested and far-from-enchanted woods of his estate, decency compels him to offer aid to a lady fallen on hard times. Matilda is whip-smart, she can read Duncan's horrible penmanship, and when she wears his reading glasses, all Duncan can think about is naughty Latin poetry.

Matilda cannot entrust her secrets to Duncan without embroiling him in the problems that sent her fleeing from London, but neither can she ignore a man who's honorable, a brilliant chess player, and maddeningly kissable. She needs to stay one step ahead of the enemies pursuing her, though she longs to fall into Duncan's arms. Duncan swears he has traded in his shining armor for a country gentleman's muddy boots, but to win the fair maid, he'll have to ride into battle one more time.

Review:
Couldn't wait for book 2! I did book 1 first so I didn't skip. Look at me trying ;)

We follow Duncan Wentworth who tried his hand at rescuing a damsel in distress once...long ago and everything went wrong, so he vowed he'll never make that mistake again. However, Matilda saved him from a poachers and he's vowed to protect her and employ her when finds out she is whip-smart and can read his terrible penmanship. Matilda doesn't know if she can entrust Duncan with her secret without embroiling him in the problems that had her fleeing from London.

I loved Duncan. I loved Matilda. They were simply PERFECT for each other. Super cute!!! I love when they play chess. They are both "nerds" and so smart.

But omg when we find out Matilda's secret...I wanted to smack her. How could she be so daft? Yes, yes, I get she ran to save her and her dad's neck, but if she took a second to maybe CONFRONT her father FIRST....sighs. I will hold my tongue because I know I'll spoil, but yes, I was annoyed.

The big twist made sense and I'm glad the author went this route. The baddie was obvious but too obvious that you won't catch it right away and even if you do you won't catch WHY and HOW and WHAT. I'm amused there. Still annoyed at Matilda being dumb and running off.

Grrr to her Dad and to that colonel fella.

I cheered at the end. GO MATILDA! WHOOT WHOOT!

I enjoyed this overall. I loved watching these two fall in love. Sure there is lust (duh), but they fell for each other's minds. It was nice. Can't wait for book 3! I'm liking this series so far! I'll give this 4 stars. I was annoyed with Matlida, but I enjoyed this.

Book Review: Darius, Lord of Pleasures by Grace Burrowes

Author: Grace Burrowes
Title: Darius: Lord of Pleasures
(Lonely Lords #1)
Genre: Historical Romance
Format: ebook
Pages: 378
Published: April 2nd 2013
Where I Got It: Library

Summary:
With his beloved sister tainted by scandal, his widowed brother shattered by grief , and his funds cut off, Darius Lindsey sees no option but to sell himself—body and soul. Until the day he encounters lovely, beguiling Lady Vivian Longstreet, whose tenderness and understanding wrap his soul in a grace he knows he'll never deserve...

Review:
Randomly found this at the library and I like the author so why not!

We follow Darius Lindsey and Lady Vivian. Darius see no option but to sell himself in order to raise money for his family and he has a chance to make enough money that can end this career. Lady Vivian's husband wants an heir but he is too old, so they come up with a plan to get what everyone wants. For Vivian she will go along with this plan because she wants a baby and something to love.

This was an interesting take on a love story. First is a deal. Second is the deed. Third is lust. Next is a baby. And then finally love. Flipping the script for sure and I enjoyed that! It was refreshing!

I loved Darius and his family. I loved Vivian too after a while. At first she seemed so 2D, but once she gets out of her shell you realize there is more beneath the surface. It was nice.

Now....the middle part did drag a tiny bit. There was a huge lull, but once an event happened everything came tumbling down. It was worth the lull methinks.

The ending was pretty good. I was happy with how everything was resolved. I am curious about the rest of the Lindsey family esp the poor widower. Poor guy.

In the end, this took me longer than normal because of the lull, but overall, I enjoyed it. It was refreshing and I liked the characters and the drama. The ending was good! I'll give this 4 stars.

Summary:
A funny thing happened on the way to the gallows...
One minute, London banker Quinn Wentworth is facing execution. The next, he's declared the long-lost heir to a dukedom. Quinn has fought his way up from the vilest slums, and now he's ready to use every dirty trick he knows to find the enemy who schemed against him.

There was just one tiny problem...
Jane Winston, the widowed, pregnant daughter of a meddlesome prison preacher, crosses paths with Quinn in jail. Believing his days are numbered, Quinn offers Jane marriage as a way to guarantee her independence and provide for her child. Neither thinks they'll actually have a future together.

They were wrong.
He's a wealthy gutter rat out for vengeance. She's a minister's daughter who must turn a marriage of desperation into a proper ducal union. Are they doomed from the start or destined for a happily-ever-after?

Review:
This author is fun! I've enjoyed previous novels and I seen this one and the summary sounds so different!

We follow Quinn and Jane. Quinn is a London banker who fought his way up from the bottom. However, his enemy has framed him for murder and now he is facing execution. He has made peace with this, but Jane comes along. Jane is widowed and pregnant and is being forced to go to the Newgate prison with her meddlesome prison preacher and help comfort those who are facing execution. After talking, Quinn decides to offer Jane marriage to help her guarantee her independence and provide for her child. Neither think they'll actually have a future together, but they are wrong when Quinn is able get off of death row.

What a fun and different romance! They are married right at the beginning and they are forced to say goodbye thinking Quinn is going to executed. Things happen and they now forced to get to know each other and become really man and wife while she is preggo with her late hubbie's child. AND he is given the Dukedom. Lots of changes!

It was fun getting to watch them learn about each other and fall in love. I also loved watching Jane become a part of his crazy family. Those Wentworths are cra-cra! They didn't come from a normal upbringing and they all went some through a really rough past so they are a little...off. But I liked them and I want them all to be happy.

The side characters were fun! I am curious to see if we get to see them more in the next books.

The lust is instant, but they don't act on it for numerous reasons. The love took a while too, but it worked well. They have a lot of baggage to get through. Plus, Quinn has a lot of his mind...finding the person who want him dead.

This did drag a little bit here and there. A few lulls so it took me a while to get through it.

In the end, there were some lulls here and there, but I did enjoy it. I love our characters and the story. It was for sure unique and different. I am curious about book 2. I want to see the Wenthworths find love. I'll give this 3 stars.

Audiobook Review: The Trouble with Dukes by Grace Burrowes

The Trouble with Dukes (Windham Brides, #1)Author: Grace Burrowes
Narrator: James Langton
Title: The Trouble with Dukes (Windham Brides #1)
Genre: Historical Romance
Pages: Audiobook
Published: December 20th 2016
Where I Got It: My shelf (Audible)

The gossips whisper that the new Duke of Murdoch is a brute, a murderer, and even worse—a Scot. They say he should never be trusted alone with a woman. But Megan Windham sees in Hamish something different, someone different.

No one was fiercer at war than Hamish MacHugh, though now the soldier faces a whole new battlefield: a London Season. To make his sisters happy, he'll take on any challenge—even letting their friend Miss Windham teach him to waltz. Megan isn't the least bit intimidated by his dark reputation, but Hamish senses that she's fighting battles of her own. For her, he'll become the warrior once more, and for her, he might just lose his heart.

Finally got to book 1. Thank you Audible!

This one follows Megan and Hamish. Megan is stuck in an impossible position. She had thought she loved a man and wrote so many love letters to him while he was away at war. Like a classic Golddigger/Rogue, he decided to take advantage when he got home and is blackmailing her to marry him. Hamish comes into the picture right after he is given the title of duke. Megan and Hamish become friends and then fall for each.

Ooooo Megan. Poor foolish girl. That evil man to take advantage of a young girl like that! I wanted someone to beat him. He is not a nice man and no one sees it. They see the golden boy of the ton. Ugh. But luckily Hamish is no fool and decides to help Megan.

What I really liked was that this is a romance, but it is also a character story. It shows some major development growth with our characters. They talk and become close. There really is no major drama. The only drama is that jerkface and the rude people who keep whispering about Hamish and his reputation during the war. Those people really stink.

The ending was a little abrupt and too easy to fix our issues. That is my only issue.

I love this family. I want to read more of the others!

This was a delightful listen. The more I listen to this narrator the more I like him. He really fits the story and the characters.

Overall, I enjoyed this. I had no real big issues except I felt like the ending was a little abrupt and the solution too easy. The story and characters had me hooked. The other really knows how to present a world and really gets under the skin of the characters. Sure it is a romance and you know they will get their HEA, but they have more than lust. We get to see them fall in love. The narrator is delightful for sure. I'll give this 4 stars.

Audiobook Review: Tremaine's True Love by Grace Burrowes

Author: Grace Burrowes
Narrator: James Langton
Title: Tremaine's True Love (True Gentlemen #1))
Genre: Historical Romance
Pages: Audiobook
Published: August 4th 2015
Where I Got It: My shelf (Gift)

Wealthy wool magnate Tremaine St. Michael is half French, half Scottish, and all business. He prowls the world in search of more profits, rarely settling in one place for long. When he meets practical, reserved Lady Nita Haddonfield, he sees an opportunity to mix business with pleasure by making the lady his own.

Nita Haddonfield has a meaningful life tending to others, though nobody is dedicated to caring for Nita. She insists the limitations of marriage aren’t for her, then Tremaine St. Michael arrives—protective, passionate, and very, very determined to win Nita’s heart

One of the audios that Blodeuedd gave me for xmas. Yes, yes, finally diving into the audios!

This follows Tremaine who is all business. All sheep...all money....all seriousness. This also follows Nita who is all business too. But her's is more about helping the poor folks of the village with her medical gifts. She has dedicated her spinster life to helping those who need it. Things happen and the two fall in love. But Tremaine will have to convince her marriage is indeed for her.

It was cute. I like this author a lot. I liked both of our lovebirds even Tremaine who was so obsessed with sheep. UGH. Sheep are cute but they are boring. lol.

There was a hair of drama near the end there, but nothing too serious and I'm glad they were able to talk it out even though I was annoyed with Nita. I feel like she did use Tremaine there for a minute. Not nice missy.

The old man doctor and Edward were nasty buggers.

I'm glad everything worked out for everyone in the end. No spoiler there...it is a romance ;)

The narrator was decent. It took a bit for me to warm up to him. His girl's voice was hard to really like, however, I did warm to it eventually.

Overall, I liked this. It was cute. I want to read/listen to more! The author was just okay. I did warm up to him. I'll stamp this with 4 stars.

Book Review: Too Scot to Handle by Grace Burrowes

Author: Grace Burrowes

Title: Too Scot to Handle (Windham Brides #2)
Genre: Historical Romance
Pages: ebook
Published: July 2017
Where I Got It: My shelf (Amazon)

As a captain in the army, Colin MacHugh led men, fixed what was broken, and fought hard. Now that he's a titled gentleman, he's still fighting-this time to keep his bachelorhood safe from all the marriage-minded debutantes. Then he meets the intriguing Miss Anwen Windham, whose demure nature masks a bonfire waiting to roar to life. When she asks for his help to raise money for the local orphanage, he's happy to oblige.

Anwen is amazed at how quickly Lord Colin takes in hand a pack of rambunctious orphan boys. Amazed at how he actually listens to her ideas. Amazed at the thrill she gets from the rumble of his Scottish burr and the heat of his touch. But not everyone enjoys the success of an upstart. And Colin has enemies who will stop at nothing to ruin him and anybody he holds dear.

I picked this book up since I heard it was good (thanks Blodeuedd!) and it was on sale in Amazon on Black Friday. It is book 2 so my plan was to get it…find book 1 somewhere and then read this one. BUT after reading a couple of pages (just because I was curious…I SWEAR!) I was hooked. I am bad….I know.

Lucky me that this did well as a standalone. I am curious to read book 1 because the first couple seemed interesting and I want to learn more about them. I want to read book 3 next. I am not sure who it follows, but I still want to read it.

Now, this story follows Anwen (weird name) and Colin. Anwen is obsessed with her orphanage she is the patroness for.  Colin is trying to find his way in the crazy world of Society. He comes from Scotland and is newly titled. Anwen and Colin know each other because of their family members marrying. Plus everyone knows everyone in the ton.

They were a sweet couple. They always kinda liked each other, but after spending some time together with finding ways to get money for the poor orphans they fall in love. It was very sweet and no major drama there. They are fighting to save the orphanage and no one objects to them being together.

Until drama hits like a brick-wall. I guess at who would be the “baddie” a mile away, but I didn’t anticipate it to actually true…I wanted to like that person. Total asshat though. That person and their family member needed to be punched. A good sense of reality. Jail would’ve worked too. Something. I am curious to see what is going to happen to them in the future. It annoyed me that nothing really bad happened to them since they are members of the ton. (No spoiler there) I feel like something more should’ve happened to those sleazy people.

At first I was not a fan of the group of orphan boys having a POV. I didn’t think they would be a HUGE role in the book, so I was annoyed with. However, as the story went along I realized they were huge players in the story and I grew to adore them.

In the end, this was a cute story with two really sweet people who unite while trying to save people who need it. There is some drama and then a HEA. Very sweet. I am curious to read more by the author! She has a way about her writing that I really liked. I do recommend this if you are looking for something sweet! I’ll give this 4 stars.

My thoughts:
I liked Grace Burrowes books because they are sweet and the couples talk, a lot. I like that. These couple actually seem to get to know each other. I can believe them falling in love.

Elizabeth is getting closer to spinsterhood, not that she cares. She loves her books and you can still steal a kiss or two without being married. Elizabeth! I am shocked.

Julian may be a Duke, but he is poor as dirt. The only thing he has is books, so many books, so many many books. Dang those books, they ruined his family.

Booklover meet Duke with books (Duke who hates books.) A lovely house party where he and his sister should find love (and a party they can not afford).

There is also the villain, every story needs a villain, and I felt sorry for him the entire book. He was such an idiot and thought of ages old revenge. He needed someone to take him under his her wing and tell him how to behave. I also felt he needed to find love and a woman who can get him to see things. Cos he was not a bad guy, he was just without guidance.

Conclusion:
I enjoyed this story. I always do
