10/15/2024: Who is your ideal book boyfriend/girlfriend?

Oh boy. I feel like I have a lot! But I can't remember all of them. Were they not truly my soulmate-book boyfriend then? 

I know for sure I have been in love with Captain Wentworth from 'Persuasion' for a very long time. He is slightly grumpy and a romantic at heart. He is a gem. Sure he holds a grudge, but I wouldn't be like Anne ;) 

Another one that has stuck with me for a while is Darius from 'Princess' by Gaelen Foley. He is charming and cunning and tough. But he has a weakness for his love. He would make me swoon. 

They may not be perfect for me, but I do adore those complex men. LOL

Review:

I read the first six of the series years ago. I honestly forgot about this series until recently when I stumbled upon this in the library ebook section. Eee!

Here we follow Virgina and Nick. Nick is a spy made of legends, but when his rule-breaking ways land him in a Scottish dungeon. He is left there to rot until a mysterious lady visits his cell and offers him a way out. All he needs to do is risk his neck on a mission and obey her every command. Easy peasy. The mysterious lady is none other than Virgina, Lady Burke. She is well aware that the ex-spy is a scoundrel and hard to control, but he is the only one who can aid her. 

I'm soooo glad this did well as a standalone. Some references to the past, but easy enough to follow. Thank goodness because I certainly barely remember the past books. It has been YEARS. We don't see the past characters until the very end. That ending did make me "awww". It was a reunion for not only Nick but for me. It was lovely seeing the old crew. I'm not intrigued and may backtrack.....someday.

The beginning was a little slow for me to get into, but after a certain scene, I didn't want to stop reading!!! I had no idea how everything was going to end, especially after a certain moment. Scary!!!!!!

Lots of twists and turns and watching these two become partners...to friends....to lust....to love. It was lovely. It felt natural while they accomplished their mission.

Minus the beginning slump, I really enjoyed this. It actually re-sparked my love and interest in the past characters. 

In the end, I highly recommend this series and this book. Lots of spies....lots of debauchery....lots of action.....lots of love. Def a fun series. This author is always fun. I MUST read more. It has been too long. 4 stars from me.

My thoughts:
Lily is old blood, but has no money. What is a lady of noble blood to do? Get a rich, hopefully stupid man. And she does manage to get the attention of a nobody with lots of money. And it's not like she is using him, he is using her right back. She is Ton. He is nothing. She has no money. He has money.

But that is not the way of a romance. Of course there needs to be drama.

The drama is named Derek. He is a good guy. Soldier through and through. Nowhere as rich as the guy she has on her hook. He is a player. She is pretty. He does want her.

So they start to fall even though they do not want to. But he is still all, I can't! And she is all, I must marry rich! And is everything ok with the guy she has on the hook?

So yes a bit of drama. And the longest after the HEA ever, seriously, it went on and on and on. The book could have ended long before. Cute, light, fast.

Book Review: My Notorious Gentleman by Gaelen Foley

This is the 6th book of the Inferno Club series. This could be a standalone, but I really feel like you'd be missing out if you hadn't read a book or two before this. 

Well...even though I'm glad the war is over with France and with the underground baddies, I'm a little upset. hahaha. There was such a great tension in the air with all the other books, but this one...was more light-hearted. Sighs. Does that make me a bad person for wanting the tension? 

At first I was really worried, because the first 30 pages bored me immensely. Is that bad to say? There was no real challenges and no real reason why Trevor and Grace couldn't be together at first. However, after page 30 things got better. I'm really glad that the author made it hard for the two to be together. They actually had to work for their love. Thank goodness. I would've been mad if it was easy for them, because they are on different social standings; he is the younger son of lord and she is the daughter of a small town minister. Also, Grace would never marry a soldier and Trevor, well, was a spy-warrior. And also...Trevor was stuck in his own self pity, because two people he cared for betrayed him. It wasn't easy for them.

Speaking of Trevor....was Trevor a named used in 19th century England? I'm not too sure...I feel like that is too modern. I shall have to look it up later on. Its bothering me........

ANYWAYS, I wanted to punch Callie in the face. Good lord she was daft and annoying. Spoiled little brat. Oooooh, *SPOILER ALERT* she falls in "love" with Trevor and catches Trevor and Grace in a compromising setting. She yells at Trevor for "leading her on", even though he did NOTHING but tell her to BACK UP LADY! Then she goes and tells the village and her mommy what happened and how Grace is a harlot. BAH! She did NOT deserve her HEA with George at the end. Nope. George deserved better in my opinion. >__> *SPOILER ENDED*. Stupid, stupid girl. 

In the end, this was okay. It wasn't as good as the other books, but it is still worth the read after you read the other 5 books. Just one more book to go in the series! I'm really upset. I hope that she follows along with this idea of the Inferno Club and does like the next generation. Why I say this is because when Trevor went up the clubhouse (ha), he was surrounded by the next set of kids being trained. Oooooh, I hope Ms. Foley does! That would be AWESOME! Anyways...I recommend this to those that love HR mixed with some intrigue and adventure. ^.^ I shall stamp this with...ummm....3 stars.

First of all...

I LOVE THAT DRESS ON THE COVER! I hate the color yellow, but I can't stop looking at this dress. I drool and imagine myself in it (I would look like a twinkie, since yellow looks horrid on me) and how much I want it. I am also glad there is a full head in this picture. The cut-off heads annoy me to know end.

Now I got that out of my system....

This is the fifth book in the Inferno Club series created by the always amazing Gaelen Foley. The series is winding down and there are only two members left who's story needs to be told. I'm sort of sad. I love the whole thing about the infamous Inferno Club who are known for partying, sexing, and just being general rogues are actually spies and warriors for England (and for the greater good throughout the world). I simply adore this notion!

Well, this story centers around the  gossip and infamous snoop Lady of Information, Carissa, and Viscount Beauchamp, the youngest warrior of the Order and always team leader for the second squad. At first I worried that things would drift off and be boring because the couple already had feelings for each other (which was touched upon in the last book), but since she's such a gossip and she is Daphne's friend, the other Order members tell him to stay away. He does until her life's endanger and while in the mist of saving her he compromises her (which nothing did happen), so he has to marry her. This all happened within the first 50 pages. They were married and rather infatuated with each other. I was worried that the book would drag. However, hope was restored because of The Incident and the Order is being threatened by the Regent and other officials of law.

There is a lot going on and there was never a dry moment. Thank goodness. I loved how much there was going, but Gaelen Foley kept everything in order and made sure the reader never stumbled off the path of understanding. I do recommend though...at least read the book before this to understand all that is going on. I also would say to read the others to get the deeper meaning and further in depth about the goings-ons, but it is not 100% necessary. 

I liked Beau and Carissa. Beau...though...his sanity and ego are still in question with me though. After he realized Carissa was comprised and she found out about him being a spy he told her they had to marry. First of all... that's fine. However, he was rather rude about it and he threatened that if she says no there is a chance The Order will be forced to kill her. Okay...I would be rather upset and not 100% sure about wanting to marry him also. He was rude and threatened me. Yes, he looks like Apollo is simply a God, but that proposal is not swoon worthy. After persuasion she agreed. He then got pissed because she didn't swoon over the marriage proposal! WTF? Of course she isn't! GAH! Also I was annoyed that at the beginning he slipped some modern terms and words. Oh well...

He does redeem himself later on, but throughout the novel there are times I don't think his sanity is quite stable and his ego is not measurable. Oh well. He was a good guy, but still...Carissa will have to knock his ego down a peg or two. Which she does, but more is needed. 

In the end, I liked this book a lot. It was a fun adventure I'm so glad Carissa got a HEA. From the beginning, I felt bad that she was left out and Daphne had to be super careful with her gossipy friend due to her husband being a member of the Order. I would recommend this series and this book to those who adore HRs mixed with some action and spies and adventure. I will stamp this with 4 stars.

Happy Wednesday everyone! How is everyone doing? I'm still "waiting" patiently for spring to finally appear here in Michigan. No such luck. The closet we got was a couple weeks ago two days in a row, then in snowed. *sighs*

Anyways, this week I'm reading My Scandalous Viscount by the always entertaining Gaelen Foley. 

Right now Carissa, the Lady of Information, is recalling The Incident and how her guardians reacted and fought over it when she was a wee thing. We are in 19th century England during the season of course at an Opera House.

Book Review: My Ruthless Prince

This is the 4th installment of Gaelen Foley's Inferno Club series. Unlike the other 3 books that could be read as stand-alone novels, this one isn't. It has a lot of references to the previous ones. 

This is Drake's book and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! If you love a broken hero, Drake is the epitome of a broken hero. I feel like he tops the cake, because he went through utter Hell and back. He was tortured by the Inferno Club's enemies, the Promethians and then is saved and "turned" into one himself. So day after day he is surrounded by the men who bayed for his blood and tortured him until his mind collapsed upon itself. However, it's all a ruse. Even though you know its a ruse, there are many points where even the reader isn't sure...

As you may or may not know, I simply adore Gaelen Foley! She's my favorite historical romance writer and I can't get enough of her books. This one is no exception! Even though I feel like this is the darkest of all her books and I liked it. I loved the tension and the how-the-heck-is-this-going-to-end feel to it. I had no idea how Drake and Emily were going to get their happy ending. Which they do, of course...it isn't in the historical romance genre for no reason. ^.^

Like I stated before...this was a very dark story. I felt it was too dark sometimes and I would find myself a little depressed. I tend to absorb the feeling of the book and actually feel it. For a couple minutes after setting the book down to take a break, I would sometimes feel in a dark mood. So if you're like me, I would warn you of this. However, it was worth it! The overall feel of the book may have been dark, but there was a bright light at the end of the tunnel. 

Even though I really like this book, in some spots the story seemed to drag a little and never seem to end. I think Gaelen Foley would sense this "drag" and make a huge event occur, so it was remedied. The story would've been very dry if she didn't include Niall Bank's and Max Rotherstone's (hero from the first one My Wicked Marquess) point of view sprinkled here and there. It added more tension and more fun. 

All-in-all, I really adored this book! I could barely put it down. I think this maybe one of my favorites of all of Gaelen Foley's books. It may have been extremely dark and had a few dragging parts, but I couldn't get enough of Drake's story. He, in my opinion, is one of the most broken heroes and most complex. I loved him and the book. Out of five stars, I grant this one 5 stars our of 5 stars! Woot Woot! What a great way to begin the year. 

Favorite Character(s): Drake Westwood, Emily Harper, and Max Rotherstone

Not-so Favorite Character(s): James (he did get a little of my respect in the end) and all the Promethians

Favorites of 2011

Hi everyone! How are you guys? Are you excited for the new year? I am! Whenever a new year approaches, I get really excited to see whats going to happen. It's like a new book...you're not sure what to expect, but you're dying to flip the next page.

Well, I originally planned to have my 'favorites of 2011' to be divided into three separate posts, but time was against me and I had a couple posts I wanted to post beforehand. *sighs* Oh well, I'll just jam pact this post with my three categories of 'favorites'.

Alright, there are three different categories: 1. Music 2. Movies and 3. Books (of course). I nominated about five or so to each 'favorite' and slowly and carefully eliminated one by one until there was a single nominee left. Book Review: My Irresistible Earl

This is 3rd novel in Gaelen Foley's Inferno Club series. Unlike the other two, I don't really think you can read this as a stand-alone, because she doesn't go into much description of WHAT the Inferno Club really is and the history of this "club". She touches lightly on this in this book, so I advice for you to read one of the others first. That's just my opinion though.

I really liked this book. Gaelen Foley did a great job by giving the readers of this series something different , because unlike the other characters these two lovers had a past history. They had been in love and they had been separated by Jordan having to go be spy and whatnot for his country. In this book, Gaelen Foley shows that sometimes your first love IS your true love and I loved this! I really adored the flashbacks that they had of each other, I found this to prove they were meant to be together. I also loved how Gaelen Foley made the characters full of realistic flaws. I found myself really rooting for them to get over themselves and become one again. 

Some say the story was a little jumpy and had a lot of subplots and I do agree, slightly. There were a lot of subplots that took away from the Jordan-Mara love story, but that happens. I did get annoyed a lot by the sudden story shift to Albert or Drake, who I adore. Perhaps she put more subplots in this book, because we all knew that Jordan and Mara would end up together. I think the jumpiness was the only thing I didn't like about this.

Like I've previously stated, I can't get enough of Gaelen Foley's books. I love the characters and stories she presents. I'm highly addicted to her books and I'm dying for the next on to come out, which isn't coming out until January or December (ugh)! 

Well, Gaelen Foley has yet again struck with a fantastic book. If you haven't picked up any of her books, you should! Especially this Inferno Club series, which is turning out to be a great one. Out of five stars, I grant this one 5 stars. Huzzah!

This is the second installment in Gaelen Foley's Inferno Club series. You could read this as a stand alone novel, but you might be slightly confused in certain areas, so I my advice would be to read the first one first. As you may or may not know I love Gaelen Foley's books. I can't get enough. Her writing style flows so well that even the boring parts are addicting. When I read her books I can't help but keep wanting more. Not only are these books filled with romance, but there is action, social issues, adventure, intrigue, and....spies! I love me some spies. 

I really liked this one. I liked it more than the first, because the characters were more realistic than the couple in 'My Wicked Marquess'. The characters had real human flaws and strengths, well, except for Rohan because he was the "best" killer out of the trio. I can't decide if that's a flaw or strength. Hmm. Anyways, I really liked Rohan and Kate. Kate and me share a lot of similarities. I could really connect with Kate in a lot aspects. I feel like if I was to be any character in Gaelen Foley's book it would be either her or Lizzie Carlisle from 'Devil Takes a Bride'. 


The plot was pretty interesting too, because how they met was kind of odd...but in a good way! The locals kidnapped her and gave her to Rohan as a gift. I couldn't help but giggle, because it was funny in an odd way. The story had a couple dry spots, but the dry spots held a lot of importance to future events. Gaelen Foley has left me speechless again with a wonderful novel. The only thing I didn't like about the book was the ending. It was too cliff-hangerish for my liking. Yet again no one knows where Drake is and what side he's on. I don't know, I just want Drake to return to his old self. Well, I can't wait to read the third book, so I guess that was the purpose for how the book ended to get you to read the next one.


All-in-all I loved this book. The characters and the plot were great. Gaelen Foley did a wonderful job with this one. Out of five stars I grant this one 5 stars, even though the ending made me mad. ^.^

Book Review: My Wicked Marquess

(I'll admit it now, I love Gaelen Foley novels! A lot of people have negative views on them, but I simply adore them. They arn't just smutty historical romance books, they actually have some depth and complex storylines. I've read all her series and now I'm starting on her new series: Inferno Club series. 'My Wicked Marquess' is the first of the series.)

Okay, to start off I hate Daphne and other characters like her! Not only is she beauty and smart and everyone likes her. She's also kind and overall perfect. I hate perfect characters! Literally, I was driven mad by her perfectness. That comes with books like these. The herione and hero tend to be perfect. That's life, I guess. I personally like characters that are complex like Max, the hero. He's not all perfect and all that. He tends to be opposite of perfect.

I love how Gaelen Foley made this Order of St. Michael. It was very original! I love the thought she put into this Order and even how she wrote the book. The ending was an ending, but it leaves you dieing for the next book to see what happens. There were a lot of twists and turns, but it mainly focused on Max and Daphne. It was a pretty cute read for those who like romance and intrigue. For those who love Gaelen Foley, it's not her best work, but it's pretty decent. If you have nothing better else to read at the moment, check this book out. I grant this book *** stars. Daphne killed a star, sorry. =)
