Murderbot is King of the bots!!!!!

Here we go again! Murderbot has volunteered to run a rescue mission. However, there will be a lot of humans that Murderbot will need to spend time with including...human children. 

Awwwwww I forgot how much I loved Murderbot. He is so funny and grumpy. So adorable. 

I think I really needed this!!! Honestly, I've been in a bit of a slump in July. A couple of pretty good 4 stars reads, but mainly 3 and 2s. Not sure why, but I needed this one! Thank you, Murderbot, for being the hero I needed. 

So funny. So intense. So good. 

I did miss ART, but it was nice seeing poor Murderbot with all these humans. Murderbot is a grumpy angel. 

The narrator is perfection. Great voices for all, especially for our main! He is great. I def recommend the audio versions. Sure, the printed word is good, but there is something about this narrator that really just fits and helps the story. 

I may have to go back and read some of the shorts to keep me entertained until the next book releases. I hope we don't have to wait too long for it!!

Review:

Finally got a chance to get into this. However, I'm bummed that my library didn't have the audio version of this one. SIGHS. Ebook is fine and all, and I'll take what I can get. 

We are back with Carl and Donut. The top 10 list is populated. The sponsorship is open. And the difficulty is ramping up. They will face an impossibly complicated subway system, all knotted up and filled with monsters. Even with these odds, there is a spark of hope......crawlers are working together to solve the puzzles and find good loot. 

Oh Carl. Oh Donut. This was a mess but fun and chaotic. 

There were some tedious moments, but it didn't bug me too much. I powered through them because I needed to know what was going to happen next.

I don't want to spoil anything, but yes, lots of trains and lots of monster mobs. Lots of crawlers. I loved seeing them start to work together. Honestly.....they need to all work together. F these TV people. 

The ending has me screaming. I can't wait to get started on book 4!

As you seen above, I did the book version of this book. I enjoyed it, but I missed Donut screaming in my ear. I may have to cave and buy the audio or use my Audible credits. Sighs. 

Overall, this was chaotic and messy and fun. Some tedious moments, but worth pushing through. Def read the other books first. 4 stars from me.

Movie Review: Project Hail Mary (2026)

Whoopsies. Meant to post this last week....eee!

Anyways...

Soooo I wasn't even excited to watch this. I'm so picky with my SciFi, and I feel like so many are just carbon copies of each other. However, the group wanted to stay and watch it, so I stayed too. ANNNND I was pleasantly surprised. 

Okay - so the story takes place in the future-ish. A science teacher wakes up alone on a ship and can't remember where or why he is there. He keeps getting flashbacks of his time on Earth. As he starts piecing together what happened, he realizes... it is up to him to save Earth. He is literally the last chance to figure out how to stop this mysterious substance from killing their Sun. This substance is killing all the stars, but one, and that is where he is headed. Along the way, he will team up with someone...something...unexpected. 

Okay. Okay. I take it back. I thought this was going to be boring and just a carbon copy. This was fresh and fun. Yes, Earth is in peril, but the movie still had some humor. It felt like real life in a weird way. Yes, dark and gloomy and scary, BUT there are good moments.

I LOVED Rocky. Best character of the year. I would burn the Earth for him. 

The cast was lovely. Our main was great...as usual. Awkward and adorable. Adorkable, some might say. 

The science-y parts were not too science-y, and I appreciated that. I hate when SciFi gets too lost in the details. Sure, I'm sure some science lovers wanted more "details". But meh. They balanced it well. Science stuff and then stuff for non-science people. Everyone can enjoy this. 

Some scenes could've been snipped and trimmed a little bit. Some dragged on a bit too long.

The ending was lovely, and I would've liked to see more. 

All-in-all, I was pleasantly surprised by this film! I went in a negative Nancy and came out wanting to watch this movie again. WHA? Yes! I'll watch it again. It was fun. Some scenes needed a bit of snipping to help the story along, but I liked it overall. 4 stars from me.

REVIEW:

Omg, it's been soooo long since the first movie was released. I def blame Covid for the huge delay. I'm just glad we finally got this!!!!

We are back. Shao Kahn and his dark real rule threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm. They need to beat him or he will rule. Johnny Cage is now added to the ranks. 

So fun. So cool. Loved the fighting and the story and the cinematics!!!!! 

What a cast!!! So good. 

And nooooo my fave!! EVERY TIME!!! But, luckily, death is never fully the end for our characters. That ending gives me hope. I can't wait for movie 3. Hopefully, we don't have to wait a million years again.

My only "issue" is that the plot felt too fast. We got right into it. I would've liked more time with our characters. 

What else can I say? This is funny, dark, brutal, and just plain fun. Now, I need to re-watch movie 1.

Audiobook Review: I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman

Review:

Blodeuedd actually encouraged me to read this. I read the summary, and I HAD to check it out. 

How to even do a summary of this??

We follow a young girl and 39 other women. The young girl is writing this story. She doesn't remember how the world used to be because she was too young when their worlds were taken from them. All she remembers is this cage. She prefers to sit alone and outcasts herself in the corner.  A chance arrives, and they take it. However, life outside the cage isn't how the world used to be. They will need to work together to survive and maybe, just maybe, find answers. 

The summary does not do this book justice, but I don't want to give anything away. 

This was a wild read, but not much really happens. But at the same time, there is a lot happening, and a lot DID happen before the cage. Lots of questions and barely any answers.

I think that is the simple beauty of the story. It doesn't really matter what happened. Sure, you want to know the hows and the whys. But this is a story about being human and finding meaning in your day. This is about community and, sadly, death. Yes, it drove me insane not having all the answers, and the ending was left pretty wide open, but I have hope. 

This isn't a feel-good story. Sometimes bad things happen, and you never know why. 

This would be an excellent book for High School or a book club. SO much to discuss and analyze. 

The narrator did an excellent job. She fit the words and brought this story to life. 

I liked it a lot. It made me think. It made me feel. It's a decently quick read, and I highly recommend it.

I am simply LOVING this series. I can't get enough of it! The next book is already downloaded and ready to go ;)

We are back in time with Mallory. This is her first Christmas season in Victorian Scotland. Scotland still doesn't really celebrate Christmas, but instead Hogmanay. Dr Gray, her boss and friend, gets tickets to a Charles Dickens show. Mallory LOVES his works and is excited....until a mystery lands in her lap. Lady Inglis is being blackmailed. The letters she wrote to her lover have been stolen, and now she is being threatened with having them published. Inglis was Dr Gray's former lover, but Mallory won't allow this blackmail to go unpunished. She has until Hogmanay to figure it out. 

Sadly, my library didn't have the audio of this, but the ebook was JUST as good. At this point, this narrator's voice is the voice and only voice I hear when I read this story. The ebook did fine enough. EEEE. I should just buy all the audios at this point. I see myself revisiting this series in the future. 

But yes, there is a nasty blackmailer out and about. It's up to Mallory and Dr Gray. We didn't get to see much of the other cast during this. Just a little bit of the one sister and Jack. We did get to meet Charles Dickens and it made my heart happy...but then sad because we know his time is limited before he passes. *cries*

The mystery was easily solvable...maybe a bit too easy. But it is a novella, and we didn't want it too long and stretched out, I suppose. 

I can't wait to get started on the next book. 

100% recommend.

Review:

Picked this up to complete a bingo square on my reading challenge, plus, this didn't sound too bad. Love a fated romance. 

Here we have Valeria and Aedyn. Valeria has not only inherited a ship but she has some debts to pay off as well. This is the last run. Right? Enter in Aedyn. He's been having mate dreams that his species gets about their Fated Mate. The universe is so vast, so it is near impossible to find this Fated Mate. He has to ignore the dreams...he has a job to do. 

*wakes up* Oh? It's over. What did I miss? 

Yes, yes, I pushed through reading this because 1) I had hope that it would turn around and 2) I wanted the credit for my reading challenge...and 3) I love torturing myself I guess. 

I wanted to DNF so many times, but I pushed through. I started skimming the last quarter of the book JUST to be done with it. There was no real tension. No chemistry. No excitement. And the spice? Meh. 

All-in-all, this was not the one for me. Sure, SciFi isn't my favorite genre, but there is usually something that grabs me. Sadly, this wasn't for me. 

1 star.

Gotta love a nice short SciFi. It's how I like 'em. Short, sweet, and to the point. 

Humanity is scrambling to set up colonies in other star systems because Earth is dying. The crew of Ouroboros has arrived to their new home, but it's not.........perfect. 

I've heard of the author, and I've been curious, so I decided to give this little short a chance. A little bit of a taste, ya know?

It sounds like this universe is set up. There seems to be more stories out there, but this story did fine alone. I was never confused, and that is a def a bonus for SciFi stories. Some authors get too stuck in the weeds of details. The author did a good job, so I may check out a full-length someday. If you like this author, give me a recommendation! I'm so dang picky with SciFi. 

So yes....we have a crew out on adventure. They are tasked to find other planets that might work for the humans. Earth is dying, and we need to colonize. Typical. The crew was nice, but I couldn't tell you any of their names, so they were slightly forgettable. Not bad, just atypical. 

The little battle was fun. 

The ending was nice. 

The narrator is a gem. I really like his voices. I've heard an audio or two of his and know his voice. It's nice, and he does well even with lady voices. 

Overall, this was a nice taste of SciFi. Perfect while working on an Excel for work. Quick and intense. 4 stars.

Review:

Been itching to read book 2 for a hot min, but I had so many other books to dive through first. Finally got my chance! 

We continue down the Dungeon with Carl and Donut. They have made it through the "Training" levels, and they will need to work harder than ever to progress. Between leveling up, they come across a couple of quests they have no choice but to take on. Even worse? Carl still has no pants. 

We are really getting into it now. They have survived the beginning and now get to have some "fun". I loved watching them pick their classes and skills. They even got to change their race if they wanted. Spoiler, they stayed a cat and a human. Thank goodness. I love watching Donut being a talking cat, ordering around poor Carl. 

Mango is adorable. Especially after a certain scene! OMG, I would destroy the world for that lil guy. 

Not only is there action and adventure. But we got to see some political drama unfold as well. That was a hoot BUT I do worry for our team. 

That ending???? Holy cannoli!!! I need to read book 3 asap. 

The narrator was fantastic. I love the sound effects we get throughout the story. It really boosts the storytelling. 

Overall, I def recommend this series. You need to read book 1 first, but it's such a fun and refreshing story. So cool. I wouldn't want to be a part of this, but it's fun to watch them stumble around. Am I as bad as the viewers? *ponders* Nawwwwww.

Review:

I've heard about this book for years, but never gave it a chance. I decided to finally give it a read.

We are in the year 2110, and technology and AI are the least of our worries. They have cured most of them, but there is a disaster heading straight towards Earth. One huge chunk of rock could annihilate all of civilization. There are some fanatics that welcome it since they see it as an act of God. However, the greatest scientific minds want to stop it. Starship Goliath and its crew race against time to redirect the meteor. 

This was certainly a story to read. It inspired many, many SciFi movies, so it was interesting for sure. 

The pacing was a little slow for such a thriller and high-tension situation. I feel like there was a lot of filler and a lot of deep dives. Don't get me wrong. I like understanding the world and how we got to where we are. However, there was a lot of history lessons that didn't really help the story along. 

The mix of religion was a nice touch, though. It showed that even in the future, there might be some folks trying to stop science and push their religion. 

The ending. Oof.

The narrator did a good job. I liked his voices, and he helped me stay involved with the story during the info-dumping sections. 

Overall, this was a good read. Just be prepared for some serious tech, history, and world info-dumping. The narrator helped me stay involved with the story and made it come to life. I'll give this 4 stars.

Review:

I've read some books by this author in the past. I enjoyed them and I wanted to read more, but you know how life goes.....other things took my attention. Blodeuedd strongly encouraged reading this and I needed a good historical fiction and a good mystery SO why not?

Here we follow Mallory in 2019. She is in Edinburgh to be by her dying grandmother's side. While out jogging one evening, she hears a woman in distress so she goes to investigate. She is a detective and helping people is so important to her. While down in the alley she is attacked and loses conciousness. When she awakes, she soon finds out she is in a strange body and it is 1869. She will have to adjust quickly to keep her job as a maid for the undertaker who moonlights as a medical examiner. He has just picked up an intriguing murder case that was similar to  the attack on herself. Her hope is to help catch the murderer and find her way back home. 

I was immediatly hooked from page one. I didn't want to stop listening! I had to know how everything was going to end. And that ending??? Awesome! I couldn't listen fast enough. 

Time travel stuff is soooooo particular and I am so picky with it. It has to make sense and be done well. I think the author did a fabulous jump juggling everything. Especially near the end when things happen. I won't spoil anything. 

Loved Mallory. Loved Dr. Gray and his sister. I can't wait to read more. They are a great set of characters. 

The narration was delightful. I enjoyed all her voices and how seamless her transitions were especially for Mallory who is faking a Scottish accent but is Canadian. Beautiful job. 

I want to say more, but I don't want to spoil anything!!! The twists and turns were great. I called the killer, but I was unsure so I was hesitant to think it. Plus......I wanted to be wrong. 

You need to read this if you like historical fiction and murder mysteries. 5 stars.

Review:

I remember seeing a couple of people read this, but I honestly I forgot about it. When this was a book that was redeemed for me to read by a member of my Twitch community.

The story is told in Kyothe's own voice. He tells his own story. From a magically gifted young man to the most notorious wizard the world has ever seen. 

I love the whole concept and the whole way the story was written. You can't help but love a story told in someone's own words. It makes the story slightly biased and the narrator is slightly unreliable. 

Honestly, this felt like a roller coaster. I would be super into the story and having a blast, but then I would be over it. There were sections that for sure didn't help move the plot along or help any sort of character growth. I think this could've been slimmed down a wee bit. 

I also struggled to like Kyothe. He seemed like a spoiled and entitled snot. Sure, I love a good bad guy and complex characters. Love a character in grey! However, he just was not a nice person at times. It would've been fine if that was how he was in his youth, but I don't think he ever learned any of the lessons he was supposed to learn. No growth. Just idiocy. 

Even though I struggled to like the main character I did become invested in his story. I am curious about book 2. I am curious to see what the idiot does next. 

But yes, I enjoyed this overall. There were sections that needed a heavy red-lines and the character needs to grow up a bit, but I liked it. It is like those Fail videos you can't help but enjoy. I'll give this 3 stars.

We follow Kaleb and Sahara. Sahara has been locked up and tortured for years. On the other side, Kaleb has been looking all over the world for her. Can she even be saved? Can he bring back Sahara and untangle her mind? 

This was pretty darn dark at times. Poor Sahara. She went through SO much. Also, poor Kaleb. He has a lot going on. 

Can they save each other? Eeee I had no idea what was going to happen the entire time. I was anxious for them both and honestly...for the whole world of the Psy. Things are changing and breaking. 

I'm so glad I took a mini break from the series. I was struggling, but they rekindled my love of the series. Yayy! Sometimes a break and a good story can fix all the doubt. 

But yes, a LOT happening in this one and lots and lots of spoilers. Trying to stay as vague as possible. 

The ending has me itching for the next book.

Review:

Starting July off with a bang! This was picked for book club. For sure a very different type of story but I was excited that it was picked. 

Here we follow Carl and his ex's cat. The world literally was crashed upon itself and they have been entered into a game show for the universe. 18 levels of a dungeon that they will need to crawl through. They call it Dungeon Crawler World. Carl and his cat companion will need to battle hideous monsters, other crawlers, and fight for viewers so they can get better stuff. Like pants. Will they be able to make through the "tutorial" levels?

This was a lot of fun. Crazy to say that such a dark world is fun, but it was. This was fresh and unique and just wild.

I loved Carl and that cat of his. Had me in stitches when she was able to talk and was given a higher stats. Hilarious. 

The monsters are scary and tough. 

No one is safe. 

Lots of trials and rules. 

We had some humor, but there were real emotional moments. 

The narrator did a fabulous job. I'm glad I went with the narrator because I feel like this story needs the acting and some sound effects. There were a couple but I hope we get some more in the future. 

Issues? Mmmmm.....nothing really. Some lulls but they felt right and needed. Lots and lots of action, but we got a lull at the right spot. 

I'll stamp this with 5 stars.

Review:

Picked this for book club because I have been itching to give this a re-read. 

Julius is nice and that isn't very dragon-like, so his mother kicks him to the curb to make something of himself before he can come back to the family. He has one month. But he is dropped into the DFZ and this is a city where dragons are illegal and labeled as monsters. He will have to find an ally or two in order to make it before the deadline. 

Awwwww it feels so good going back to the beginning of the series! Love this world and love these people. Julius is so nice. Justin is a hot-head, but I am in lovveeeeee with him. Chelsea is scary. Marci is the best thing for Julius. And Bob....well.....you can't help but love him and his pet. 

There are loads of characters we get to meet but the author does a good job dancing them around the stage. It never feels confusing or overwhelming.

Honestly, it was nice getting through this much quicker. Last time I wasn't able to because of the lockdown. It took my eons and it would be days before I had a chance to really sit down and listen. This time I was able to listen to my normal pace. 

Between that and knowing what happens next...I think I like this even more than my first listen!! This series is for sure a series you can listen to multiple times. Lots of little clues and foreshadows that I didn't catch the first time. 

The narrator? Awful. JK. I love him to bits. He is fabulous. Like I've said before some of his girl voices are a touch silly, BUT he makes sure every girl voice has their own voice so you are never confused. His accents are great and fit. 

All-in-all, this series is a must listen. Sure you can read it, but where is the fun in that? Listening is the way to go. 

Originally I gave this 4 stars, but I am going to bump this up to 5 because why not???
