Blodeuedd's Tuesday Review: Midlife Christmas Vigliante by Eve Langlais

By: Eve Langlais

Narrated by: Anne Robert

Length: 4 hrs and 50 mins

Release date: 12-11-25 by Tantor Media

Paranormal romance

Christmas and short, yes thank you.

Our heroine is rather sad, lonely, but she loved her cat! And then some ahole tortured it! Yes she is angry, and the legal system did nothing. So she ends up rather almost dead after a confrontation. Luckily a handsome vampire walked by and thought she had some spirit in her.

And suddenly she is a vampire at 47 and does not believe it to be true. It does take some time for her to get her head around it and soon she is getting back into shape. As the book starts with her doing vigilante stuff 2 years later. Taking down bad guys the cops can´t take down themselves.

Oh and she does find some romance too, some hot romance.

A bloody xmas paranormal romance. They are vampires after all. I enjoyed it. It worked well in audio too. The narrator was good and it was fun listening to.

Just before Christmas my life underwent a major change. And I’m not talking about the fact I hit menopause hard—I mean, we're talking night sweats and hormones gone wild. Nope, it was worse than that. I almost died, and would have actually been six feet under if I'd not been transformed into a vampire.

You heard me right. At the ripe age of forty-seven, I became a blood-guzzling, sunlight-hating, fanged menace with an insatiable appetite. Thankfully, criminals taste delicious.

But the wicked aren't the only people I'm nibbling on this holiday season. When I'm not taking a literal bite out of crime, you will find me unwrapping the handsome vampire who gave me the best present of all.

Love.

Blodeuedd's Monday Review: The Warlord's Lady by Eve Langlais

Narrated by: Kasha Kensington

Series: Magic and Kings, Book 4

Length: 8 hrs and 17 mins

Release date: 09-24-24 by Tantor Audio

Fantasy romance/to review

I have read and enjoyed the previous books in the series so I dove right into this one.

Monsters are roaming and something is lurking in the mists of Kormac´s kingdom. Something horrible that kills and possesses people. His kingdom thinks a good witch is a dead witch, but he he still calls for one.

Fionna is a witch. Now she must go to a barbarian kingdom who does not know how to treat women or her. Oh and rumours are flying.

Sparks fly...after a while. Because first she must get over that he is so arghhh, and he has to overcome that she is so independent.

Together they save the day and fall in love, awww.

Good book that had danger romance and monsters. Also, I do wonder if Lomar is getting his own book. I hope so

Good narration. She kept the flow going and it was never a dull moment. She was good with different voices and kept it entertaining.

Something evil is lurking in the mountains and Kormac doesn’t know how to fight an enemy that can’t be seen or touched.

While a warlord hates asking for aid, he can’t allow his pride to get in the way. He requests assistance from the witch queen—in secret, of course, because magic isn’t real. Or wasn’t in his corner of the world, until now.

Fionna, the witch who arrives to evaluate the situation, is unlike anyone he’s ever met. Bold. Fearless. Beautiful…

He didn’t count on how much she would test his patience—and his control.

As they work to squash the danger spreading from the mountains, and she impresses him with her skill and courage, he starts to wonder if she’s the lady he’s been waiting for. His mother certainly doesn’t think so, but Kormac didn’t become warlord by allowing others to make decisions for him.

However, taking her as his wife will depend on them surviving the machinations of the evil entity that’s returned to take its vengeance.

Yes I listened to yet another Eve Langlais book. They are always fun, and different from each other.

Sadie is 40+. Yes, an older heroine! She doesn´t have any friends anymore, just her work. No man. And then suddenly she sees freaky demons, and what the heck. What is going on?! I liked that she hid, I mean who wouldn´t! She says she is a coward, she says she can´t fight, and she is right. She is real. It will not be easy.

So Sadie can see demons. They are real. There is a weird guy with a scythe killing demons. She seems to have magic, and she needs to learn to handle it.

People are really dying left and right in this one. These are some freaky demons. Creepy and small, and deadly.

It ends sort of well. I mean all hell is about to break loose, but that is for another day.

Actionfilled, and maybe maybe some romance lurking...or at least passion? Who knows about the future.

Good narration. She kept a good pace and did action and other parts well. She also got the feel of Sadie and I felt i was there with them

Turns out there are monsters in the world. Why couldn't my midlife crisis involve a new hairstyle? I went from ordinary working gal to demon killer. Sounds exciting? Not really, seeing as how I got fired from my job, my apartment was trashed, and the cops think I'm involved in something shady.

Especially that cute detective who keeps questioning me . . .

Pity there's no time to flirt, what with all the demons that keep emerging from sewer grates and subway tunnels. Something has to be done before they overrun the city. If only that something didn't involve me!

I never asked to be a heroine, but apparently, I've been chosen and now I must reap what fate has bestowed before chaos is sown.

Scifi romance /to review

Another Eve Langlais series and I wanted to try it.

It was  shorter than some, but it still worked well. And  it was well quite something.

Lillith believes in science, but then this big hunky angel?! shows up. And suddenly there are demons and what on earth is going on?

The angels, oh they are confusing. They come from outer space. Earth has been left to itself. So are they angels, are they aliens? It was intriuing.

But there is romance too, obvi. Some feelings will start, but first they hate each other.

I do wonder about the next book, pretty sure there will be a new angel/human mix. Hell is coming.,

Good fun narration. It was quite something

It took an angel to make me believe in love.

As a woman of science, I am an unabashed, agnostic atheist—until I meet my first angel. Aziel, with big, beautiful wings, claims he's here to stop humanity from being annihilated. Sounds impressive, but I have questions.

Full of arrogance and demands, he wants access to my life's work while blaming me for the coming apocalypse. It seems my innocuous signal seeking life beyond our galaxy succeeded. Someone heard my invitation, and now the world is in grave danger. At least according to Aziel.

As I get to know him, I find myself reevaluating everything I thought I knew. More surprising than my sudden belief in religion, though, is my irrational love for an overbearing angel. But will he defy Heaven's orders to save me?

Asharee was interesting. She lived in a dangerous world where monster could show up and eat you. And that is how she ended up in a pleasure house, but, one where she ruled herself and put up rules. She is also an amazing spy.

But yes this world is falling apart. How to save it?

She is sent to spy on the king. Bad bad idea. She might be good with potions and making men think one thing, while she is getting info from them. but they are not the king.

Obviously they will fall in love. Hunt down some monsters, and live happily ever after.

I enjoyed the book. Danger, some romance they had to work for, and an interesting world.

Good narration that pulled me in. All that danger and tension was handled so well. A book that works really well in audio

Asharee lost her family in a monster attack and learned to survive on the streets. It's a hard life, so when she's offered a chance to escape, she decides to look past the reputation of the person offering. Best decision ever. While a house of pleasure might seem like a bad place for a young woman, the truth is Asharee's never been safer. The gradeenas protect their tizanas. And so she learns how to entice, to dance, to seduce with her eyes and a shake of her hips. But what happens later in the privacy of her room . . .

It's only an illusion because Asharee's mentor taught her alchemy. With her potions, she can make her clients believe the fantasy she weaves with words—and get them to spill their secrets. When an old friend asks her to spy on the king, she must resort to a disguise to get close enough. Only he's not as expected. For one, Daksh sees right through her deception. And still wants her.

Together, they will travel to a place long forgotten to try and save a kingdom. They will face a peril unlike any. Be tested to their limits.

And if they prevail, they will have to figure out if there's a future for a spy and her king.

This was a short story about a zombie uprising. It did not feel like other Langlais books I have read, but yeah they do have time to get down and dirty here too.

Mindy is a baker. Oh no, there are zombies now?! Better bake cupcakes with magic in them. And get the cutest sidekick ever in a weird goblin

There is also a mystery man chopping heads of zombies. And someone evil making these zombies.

Short one, with lots of zombie action. And some hot times with the mystery man too.

But yeah, I could not connect fully to this one, maybe it just was too short.

Good narration. It was interesting listening to at least.

I’m just your run-of-the-mill earth witch, baking up some harmless hexes, that is until a necromancer starts messing with my town. With the dead looking for brains, suddenly I’m Mrs. Popular. Everyone wants my special charms, especially my pumpkin spice zombie-repelling cupcakes.

Everyone but Reiver, the sword-wielding stranger who saves me from an undead attack. The hunter is big, bad, and not my type. For some reason, I can’t resist the mysterious drifter in the long leather coat. Must be a spell, which I’ll break because I am not falling for him. Despite his reservations—and mine—we team up to go after the evil infesting my hometown. I don’t know about you, but I’ve got a problem with someone who thinks it’s okay to kill people to create a zombie army.

Not on this baker’s watch. Time to whip up a batch of awesome to save the world.

Fantasy romance / to review

This is the final part of the trilogy, and it had me worried that there would be no conclusion. But when   then end grew close all pieces came together.

Agoth, well previous books sure threw me for a spin. Agoth/Belle, yes it does get confusing, and these truly has to be read in order. There are some real twists and turns.

The world is being engulfed by the mist. There are dark things in the mist. One kingdom holds on, but that kingdom is pretty messed up as we found out in the last book.

As for Agoth, she went into the mist and sees that the "monsters" are not monsters after all.

I enjoyed the series.  It was fantasy, action, romance, and some hot times.

Good narration. I have enjoyed listening to this series by her and she does a great job

The stunning conclusion to Mist and Mirrors featuring betrayal and discovery on the journey to triumph.

Entering the Abyss with its tainted mist is terrifying but there is no other choice. The Valley is in danger and the only hope lies in the hands of the enemy. But are Zanir and his people the real problem? A great crime was committed and the repercussions are finally coming to a head.

As the past continues to reveal itself, the one known as the orphan of the night wonders who she is. What is she capable of? If prophecy can be believed, the fate of the world rests on her. Failure isn't an option. Now if only she knew who to trust.

She'll travel deep into the deadly Abyss seeking answers. She'll find more than she ever expected. But will it be enough?

Fae was, well how to put this...rather nasty, a real piece of work. Foulmouthed, quick to conclusions, aggressive, a raging alcoholic, drug uses. Only thinking of herself. F everyone else. Even after having died for a seco,nd she is her nasty self. But, things change.

Is the lack of drugs and drinks making her see freaky beings? Why are they calling her a witch?! Yes, somehow she turned into a witch, and when she is at her last resort, she accepts help and guidance and begin to calm down and accept her new powers. I even like her at the end.

Also, that one thing in the end, I am really curios. I hope there will be more so I can understand who granted her these powers.

I liked it. It was short, fast paced and kept throwing punches at her.

Good narration. It would not be easy voicing Fae, she is a woman of many faces. And you could really hear the change in Fae as the story progressed

Who knew a person could almost die from drinking? I found out the hard way when I woke up in a hospital and a nurse informed me I was legally dead for a few minutes. Shocking, but not as much as the fact I returned different. I can see things, but it’s what I can do that has people interested in me.

There’s Sonja, a strange woman with powers who appoints herself my teacher. Anakin, the mysterious and super hot dude, who owns a pastry shop of all things catering to weird folk. Leslie, my furry-tailed coworker and only friend.

And then there’s the bad guys determined to get their grubby hands on me.

I’m not special. Just a woman trying to clean up her life and actually plan for a future. Will I have time to atone for my many sins before my luck runs out?

This is really good, but I do confess confusing at times too. See, Agatha has some years uncounted for so as she is trying to figure it out, I am also trying to figure out how it all comes together. Not to mention that is is not Agatha either. Oh yes, quite the ride.

Agathe lives in a world that is getting overun by the mist, and in the mist there are monsters. But this books shows that who are the monsters really? And whose fault is everything? Everything is not as it seems to be.

With her she has her fellow sisters in arms, and Meric, her lover.

Though one thing that I guessed back in book 1 showed to be true. I can't say I am glad to say I was right. It was quite the shock.

It is such a fun book. Adventure, danger, some love, betrayal and monsters. I am really looking forward to the conclusion.

Great narration. She did a good job with keeping the book alive and making all characters pop

Despite her best efforts, Agathe didn't kill the King, but she did escape with something even more valuable. Stealing back her magic was a good start. Now, she must find a way to save the Kingdom from the rising mist and the threats within. The spells that used to protect are fading fast with deadly consequences.

After more than a century of peace, the monsters have returned to attack the towns and villages, but they're not the only danger. A sickness in the mist mutates everything it touches-except for Agathe. She's special. If only she knew how to use that to her advantage.Who can she ask for help? Who should she believe?

Maric, the King's most valued soldier-and her lover-wants her to return to the Citadel and join forces with the monarch who stole her magic once before. Then there's Zanir, a smooth-tongued liar who taunts her via a mirror. He promises her answers. Demands that she come to him so he can show her the truth. The fact is, both men want to use her, and the wrong choice might mean the end of Agathe-and the Kingdom.

I meant to try this for ages, but then I got to try the audiobook and was in at once.

Muriel is the devil's daughter, and hey the devil seems really nice. At least around her. He seemed like a big weird softie. And he was very disappointed by her lack of sinning. Because Muriel wants to wait for love, and is not into the whole spread evil thing. Though neither does anyone else, hell seems to be more like, sin is good, but humans can do it on their own. But yes of course there are temptations out there to get them to come to the right side. And actual hell sounds good too, if you are not Stalin or someone, the normal sinners are just there.

I got off track, but it was a fun world, the devil was really nice. Muriel was nice. There is humour, some slaying of evil dudes, cute hellbeasts. And of course the romance. I am not big on insta, but it works, this woman has waited for 23 years to get her groove on. For a normal woman that would be ok, but for someone who was always bombarded by her weird family to get her freak on. No wonder she wanted to wait for the one. And in comes Dark tall and mysterious. Lust at once, romance at once, though there is this time where I wanted to kick him, grrrr, that you even thought that man!

A good narrator, I have listened to her before and she sits well in this book. It works great in audio, you really get the fun of things

It drives my dad nuts I'm such a goody-two-shoes, but the fact that I'm a virgin makes smoke pour from his ears. See, I'm determined to save myself for love, but daddy dear, more commonly known as Lucifer, just wants me to stop being an embarrassment. Would it kill you to sin a little? Maybe he'll get his wish, because I met an intriguing hunk last night in my bar. Could he be the one? He certainly melts my panties like marshmallows over the coals of Hell, but do I dare trust him? My last boyfriend thought he'd gain infamy by killing me. He's infamous all right. Dad had him mounted on a wall, his version of modern art titled, "Touch my baby girl and die." My love life isn't the only thing I've got to worry about. There's someone threatening the denizens of Hell, and while my daddy says to not worry my pretty little head about it, I am involved because whoever is behind the attacks keeps coming after me. Bring it. I'm not afraid.
