I had some high hopes going into this one. It has been a while since I have read anything with mermaids and this one looked interesting. Plus it was free ;)
Sadly, I could not finish it. Yes, yes, I had to stamp it with a DNF. I got to about 40% or so, but could not move forward from there. I looked past a lot of the issues I had hoping it would get better. There was a chunk I actually really enjoyed. I loved watching the war go on in the mermaid world.
The writing wasn’t horrible. It was just the story itself and the things that happened. Things did not make sense. I found the age gap between Aazuria and Trevain. Yes, yes, Aazuria is indeed 600 years old BUT she looks barely 18. Trevain is a human and he is in his 50s. It just looks wrong. And at the beginning, he invites her and her younger sisters to move in with them after ONE talk. WHAT? I know Trevain is a good guy, but that is just creepy!!!
There was also a scene between Aazuria and the female fisher under Trevain’s employ (can’t remember her name). It started off alright and then they got into a nasty fight about the color of the ocean. So silly.
I was able to look past these two things at the beginning, but as the story went on….things fell apart. I hate to say that I gave up, but I had to walk away.
SOOOO overall, not for me. This was a DNF.

They are rare thus why I love this series
